The Koinobori Festival, also known as the "Children's Day" or "Boys' Day" festival, is a traditional Japanese celebration held annually on May 5th. The festival is intended to honor and celebrate the well-being and happiness of children, particularly boys, in Japanese culture.
One of the most distinctive features of the Koinobori Festival is the display of colorful carp-shaped windsocks called "koinobori." These windsocks are usually made of cloth or paper and are flown from bamboo poles. The carp is chosen as the symbol because it is considered a strong and determined fish that swims upstream, symbolizing the hope that children will grow up to be courageous and successful individuals.
