Power Rangers Lightning Zord Ascenion Project ZAP DINO MEGAZORD MMPR Review & Comparison to SOC 

ZAP is like budget SOC to me. If everything was working as intended on mine(no broken Trex). All the paint apps were solid(which mine generally were). Then I'd say I prefer it over Legacy by a great deal due to the articulation and everything is painted. Legacy is mostly stickers. Really to earn it's price point, they'd have to address the paints apps QC and fix the joints. Lose the softer plastics like in the Trex arms. Ratchet the ab crunch for the Trex. Address the Yellow zord in general. The final thing is they need to pull back on the design liberties they take or offer an alternative to make it more retro.

Just letting you know - the MZ-0101 is the number of the season & the episode number in which that Zord appeared in. IE - DragonZord is 0121 AKA Season 1 Episode 21, the debut of the Dragonzord.

I missed the legacy and soc I thought was too much back then. Now we got this and I like it better then both I'm sold on the articulation I have the zeo zord and love it. Trust me this will be slept on when it sells out and dino megazord come out everyone will want it.

Great review, thank you. I feel better about getting this MZ (waiting from BBTS currently). I will say that I've learned, with any figures that are NOT for children, always use heat. I use a heat gun, you can use a hair dryer, some like to use hot water but might be problematic on a figure like this (tho I can vouch that water often does zilch to figures, the paint is applied professionally). So if a joint is stuck, always use heat and things will sit MUCH more flush. Happy Zord transforming!

I think I’ll be happy with the zap. Everyone I’ve seen talk about soc is pretty much afraid it’s gonna fall or break.

Great review bro, im looking foward to opening mine zap when it comes. If you think SOC is expensive, Flame toys has created a concept megazord that is 400 dollars but man it looks bad azz. Well start saving money because im a fan of MMPR and will get my filty hands on it lol. Keep up the great reviews.

Great review, just got mine from Dorkside. Let's be real, no one's buying the SOC now, and it was a pretty hard sell when it was first released. The ZAP is a good attempt to modernize something that we've seen countless times before, and for under $200, it's still a good price. Y'all be buying a lot less for the same price when the box says "Transformers", I really don't get the nitpicking and hate that this figure is getting.

The chest piece and side pieces by the waist are the main gripes for me but besides that I love it. Hope we get an SPD megazord soon since we have that team almost complete next to In Space,l and Zeo

I went all out on all S.O.C. MMPR zords as a gift to myself some time ago but seeing this is still pretty cool. Only other zords I have are the VHS lightning collection stuff.. and as for a HasLab I'd agree it's not the way to go.. unless they bust out with Serpentera and at that point idk lol.

I only have the Hasbro basic, but for the price I like it a lot. Cool to see the comparison, but with some labels / paint I think I’ll stick with what I have.

ZAP is still a good weight. Those people complaining just wanted die cast which is why SOC has weight distribution issues as well. Also these days SOC goes for a grand a piece and legacy sets are going for $500 so there's no comparison in today's market.

Even though it has a lot of inaccuracies and is flimsy when you're handling it, it's still a cool display piece but it's not worth the $165 price imo

$160 for this is not worth, Quality wise but $80 that would been better, I'm happy I own the 93 version that still better so far.

I think on the Sabretooth Tiger, even in Zyuranger never saw it full standing up was always kinda crouched in a "about to pounce" pose. When get to the basically transformer type robos like RyuuseiOh aka Red Dragon and Won Tiger aka tigerzord (know Won Tiger was actually BORN in the Dairanger series is kinda crazy as explains why always looked short in the series when watched MMPR season 2) Leaked out the Astro Megaship is coming in ZAP

Thank you for the review, you save me $165 dollars. The ZAP Megazord proportions look weird to me, the SOC and the other one look better. Given the price and the lack of diecast this should include a special effect for the sword like the Super Robot Chogokin one. The ZAP Megazord has some interesting articulation in the arms and the ab crunch that the SOC doesn't have, but something doesn't feel right, kind of remind me to the flimsy combiners from the line Transformers Combiner Wars.

if you remember correctly some of the monsters were always the same height as the megazord in the MMPR show itself. they looked to be in scale with each other but, even saban said, mistakes were made on the show when it come to what he called kaiju fights with the megazords. so that vhs version of the dino megazord is just about accurate to how it was fighting the evil space aliens on the show.

I've always thought the 2020 Basic Hasbro version looks like a bootleg you'd see in a seaside novelty shop... and this video makes me think that evenmore.

Thank you for this video! I do have the SOC Dino megazord and the Legacy Dino megazord. On my legacy Dino megazord my Saber tooth tiger keeps coming off. The leg is defective. So I just have all the zords separated than combine. I keep the SOC Dino megazord for display purposes. I am thinking about buying the Hasbro Dino megazord

Unfortunately I bet the scalpers and aftermarket selllers will probably drive this up after a while but hopefully there’s a sale so I can pick up another one to have the Dino’s on display as they don’t look bad at all and I do like how tall the Zord mode is

Funny how people slept on the SoC when it came out. I got mine brand new from Amazon Japan for $242 shipped. during it's release the legacy dino megazord was actually worth more and does far less. The only reason the SoC went up in value was people realized the figure (despite the flaws) as the better figure. back in 2018 the legacy dino megazord was $400 on eBay.

I got my SOC for a little over $200 on Amazon. I know that wasn't it's MSRP, but that was back in 2017.

I completely agree with you MCUCOLLECTOR24. I really feel like this release of the megazord is for those that either had the original 1993 version, the 2010 version, or in general, never owned a megazord. In my opinion, despite its floppiness, the SOC is better, however the price point originally and even now for it is ridiculous. This ZAP version takes elements from that and has its own spin on certain things such as the tabs on the wings for the pterodactyl. The fact that there’s no die cast on this one helps so much because now, the megazord won’t topple over with all the weight, especially when you add dragon zord later on. To me, this megazord is for people that don’t want to pay the 300+ dollar SOC or have the original. Yes it’s still 160 bucks, but you get some good plastic all around and excellent paint details for each zord. Yes there’s chipping at points but that’s kind of what you need to expect, especially with it coming from Hasbro given their problems with QC issues. But yes, this is a good megazord. Is it the best? Probably not, but it’s still good for what it is

Thanks for being so thorough! Mine just showed up yesterday. But that Hasbro one is def overpriced if you paid around 50 bucks. I have the last bandai which is basically the same thing and it was 25. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Well I got mine at a discount for 150 so I guess I’ll take a look at it myself when it gets here, the articulation and height look great so there’s that at least

the trex arms do move, they just need to break loose, mine were really tight till I got it to move, then they were easy

I missed out on the Legacy & SOC I have a feeling ppl will sleep on this one. It will sell out and be double the price as well I like the scale. No zords will be exactly like the show. The size is pretty nice. I'll wait a couple of months but ima save up for this one.

I'll just copy & paste a portion of my comment from another YT review of this toy: This is like a reworked version of Hasbro's last Dino Megazord, only more expensive. Thing is, this toy looks like it's worth $80 at max and not $167. The toy looks decent for those looking for an "affordable" transforming Megazord for adults. And having owned a few SOC robots, I've never had a robot that was as floppy as the SOC Daizyujin. If the ZAP version does get discounted to $80, I may consider buying one.

Hasbro basically took the Z logo from Zyuranger and changed a little.

Pretty cheap looking honestly. I’ll hold out for a SoC rerelease someday.

The Super7 Ultimates Megazord looks like the way to go, especially since it WILL scale perfectly with the monsters.

Next up ZAP Thunder Megazord, and Tigerzord.

Minor issues. There’s probably a way to fix the face not fully closing and might possibly be able to remove the T. rex arms. I’m honestly not going to display it in non megazord mode anyway

I think it's funny how people say the SOC with all of it floppy ass parts is the best one...but honestly if you're going to bitch about the $166 price tag how the hell are you not going to bitch about damn near $700 with the current market for the SOC I guess $300 wasn't bad back like five or six years ago whenever it came out but no I'm not paying that damn price and as for the ZAP version I think it's really damn good and I think it's a great price with great articulation anesthetically it looks great.

I want hasbro to partner with yolo park on megazord, look Yolo Park Optimus Prime IIES and that model kit for the price, detailed and articulation hands down.

THANK YOU! Just because it's light, doesn't mean it's cheap. That's literally marketing 101 where they say weight is added just so people perceive things as more valuable. People will figure out later how just how good the ZAP megazord actually is.

If they continue those deluxe retro megazords, I'll keep those. Yeah, they're not articulative and miss a lot of paint, but they're still cool display pieces. I'll skip out on ZAP.

I doubt you'd be able to tell a superior plastic apart from a "cheap" plastic by feel alone, that's not how things work. The human body does not have a sense built into it for you to be able to "feel" how expensive or how cheap something is.
