Do one for power Bi offline availability. if you will please. I was looking for a solution for site users who sometime lack internet in there sites. They have to take pictures using their mobile and fill in a form and submit. once they gets WiFi or internet connection it gets uploaded automatically. Can this be done using Power apps ?

@@ShanesCows I can't agree more with the previous comments. Your explanation was by far the easiest to understand. As you mentioned, many of the other resources out there for cascading drop downs were not explained in enough detail or were lacking clarity. That was my experience until I found this video.

Shane! As always --THE BEST! I just worked through another cascading video created by another well-known author. Could NOT figure it out and it was presented as "oh -- so very easy"! As usual, I knew right where to come when I was stuck. What you do best is teach us how to thing through these things in the most clear, concise, non-intimidating, funny and kind way! Don't know what we'd do without you! Thanks ever and always so much!

was amazing, your solution inspired me to think of another one you have a field you want to be filled from a selected item from a drop-down menu here is what you do 1 create a dropdown button 2 let the field default value be the dropdown button selected value 3 put the dropdown button above the field to look like the field itself is a dropdown menu

FYI - For using a SharePoint list instead of an excel table, I found that in the second dropdown, the data type also has to be Result (instead of Value). (It also then requires a value in each dropdown, auto-selecting the first available row instead of leaving it blank for the user to select an option. Not sure yet how to fix that issue, but I'm still learning.)

Hi Shayne, this will be very helpful when we map clients chart of accounts (or Product List) for example: Account Code/Name: 2000/000 - Motor Vehicles @ Cost Report Type: Balance Sheet (or Income Statement) Level 1: Assets (Liabilities ; Equity) Level 2: Non-Current Assets (Current Assets) Level 3: Fixed Assets And then after the account has been mapped it pulls through to a SQL Table that is imported in Power BI. Also after the account is mapped it gets removed from the dropdown in PowerApps. This is very handy for reporting purposes for things like mapping products in product category and - subcategories, or projects or employees in different groups. Would be great if you can do a video like that

Hi Shane - your videos are awesome! There is so much that I learn not just from watching them, but also they way you explain and demonstrate the concepts. I had a really noob question - if Im an external consultant developing an app from a customer, which account should I use? I would not be part of the Office 365 list - so would they have to make a separate account for me which they are then forced not to close (even after I exit); or is there just another way. My request is for you to make a video from a developers perspective in terms of setting the various environments, security groups and policies and finally rolling out the app. I know you have covered a some of these concepts in separate videos - but an integrated video would be terrific! Thanks again for sharing your extensive information and knowledge. Much appreciated!
@ShanesCows

I make most apps in the customer tenant. I have them create the app so they are the owner then give me co-owner. That way I can build it and they can delete my account after I am done.

I AM SHOCKED!! Not about you, Shane. Your videos are great and very helpful! When I started playing around with PowerApps and started watching your videos, some things were a little odd. I was constantly getting syntax errors and did not understand why. Today I found out. Microsoft, for reasons I cannot understand, decided that it was a good idea to use different characters within the formulas, depending on the used browser language!! So if your browser is set to English (strangely no language selection inside the PowerApps portal and ignoring the language set in the user account settings in Office 365) comma is used, so RGBA(255, 255, 255, 1) in German semicolon is used, so RGBA(255; 255; 255; 1) No wonder my formulas were not working! And due to my screen resolution, I didn’t see the little dot over the comma before today. But why?? I realize that this must come from Excel. Same thing there, BUT Excel is very very old and for compatibility reasons they never changed that, although using localized characters - and even more shockingly - function names, was never a good idea. Anyway, PowerApps is not Excel. So why continue a bad practice in a new tool?? Do you have any idea?

Hi Shane, awesome videos! you're the first I've found to actually be helpful. I am attempting to connect to a SharePoint list data source to create my cascading dropdown but I am getting the error "Property cannot consume the type of Tables that this rule produces, due to incompatible schemas" The column type in my list is a Choice with multiple unique choices assigned. Thoughts? Furthermore, as I understand you can connect multiple data sources to an app. In this case could I create things like these drop down options external of the SP List but also connect other data connections within this app to said SP list? Thank you in advance!

Hope all is well, may I say your videos are very easy to follow. I appreciate how you stick with mechanics only. I have one question, within your cascading dropdowns I notice that you only display 2 fields/columns to display. I have 3 columns that I need to filter by, I am having trouble with the 3rd dropdown, it only references the 2nd dropdown. I need the 3rd dropdown to filter from 1st and 2nd dropdowns: columns (1st DD = Program Type, 2nd DD = Expense Type, 3rd DD = Expense Description). I tried using the "And" function also "&", "&&" and neither of them worked properly. Please advise if I need 2 distinct functions or an If statement, I have tried them and didn't work either.

Hi Shane! Even after 3 years your video is a great help. But i still have a question. In your example your data are stored vertically -> each entries for your dropdowns are in a row. So how does it works if my data are stored horizontally in columns? The "department dropdown" is the same like yours. But how to do this with your jobtitles if they are written in column1, column2, column3... etc.?

Shane, Great video, hoping you can help. So I have a pair of SP lists in the same site. I am trying to use the first list which has a list of our resource in 3 different roles (eg: PC, GPA, ISA). The basics of the table are Role, First, Last, Full Name and details about the resource. Second table is for projects and depending on the services aligned to it a PC, GPA and or ISA will be assigned. For each of the assignments I have a drop-down list which I want to have a filter to reduce the available options . The formulas I have tried include: - ShowColumns(Filter('ICI - Team',IsDCMGPA = "Yes"),"FullName") - No results (Get blue icon with the >500 error/notification.) - Distinct(Filter('ICI - Team','ICI - Team'.Role=PC_Label.Text),'ICI - Team'.FullName) - No results (Get blue icon with the >500 error/notification.) I have also tried a number of other formulas all of wihch have resulted in no results. I am not sure what I am doing wrong.

Shane, thanks for your videos as they are helping me a lot as I am new here. I am looking for a video where toggle buttons are used with SharePoint list. Do you have any plans of doing it?
@ShanesCows

What are you trying to accomplish? I think in the quiz app video I covered toggle.

Another great video, Shane! Do you have any advice for setting up filtering using SharePoint List columns? I have 2 filters and a display panel that are pulling from the same SharePoint list. I need one dropdown filter to set-up the next dropdown filter, and then this sets the form display. I initially was using lookups but that did not work out.

I thought that was what I did in the video? Did I not? I also have a video on Recreating Lookup columns that might help. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-43ekj5MlNJU.html

Sorry for the delayed response. No in the video you used an Excel Table, which I tried and got to work, but could not get the blank row to work.

Hi Shane! Is it posible for the JobTitles dropdown to have a Default value of an blank option (empty string) that comes first and then the rest of the options, after we selected the department?

@Shane Young, have you tried reverse cascading. I was trying that on an App that I'm developing, where you can actually pick items from the bottom Combobox and the parent combobox (es) will be filled up for you.

I haven’t. Guessing the In operator would be part of the solution. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9d3R336y-j8.html

Hi Shane, I am learning Powerapps from your videos . Very helpful . Thank You,Much. I have a doudt from this video. Please tell me the use of Reload Icon when the excel which we use is having static data.We might not use it rt?
@ShanesCows
@ShanesCows 3 года назад
The reload is only to refresh the data source. Typically you only need that for testing not the real app.

Shane Young, First congratulations on the video and didactics, secondly I apologize for my English, I am using translator. I ask, when I use cascading dropdown, what function do I use to submit? For example: SubmitForm (EDITFORM1) or needs to be another function.
@ShanesCows

SubmitForm should work.

This is really helpful..In this same scenario can we do it in reverse way. Like, If user selects the value from "Job Titles" dropdown it should show "Department" values..(It should work in both the ways).If possible please let us know

I have never done both ways. Possible but I don't have code for it.

Hi Shane, thanks so much for your helpful tutorials. I'm new to the brave world of Powerapps but I've watched your video on creating custom sharepoint list forms and this one. I have adapted the form on our sharepoint library but am finding users have to a) click "see all" from the form right-hand side menu in sharepoint to get to the customised form and b) after filling it in and saving, the options selected from the drop down lists are not assigned to the files. I figure this might have something to do with sharepointintegration? but am struggling to find a way to fix it. Can you point me in the right direction?
@ShanesCows
@ShanesCows 3 года назад
I am not sure. From what you describe sounds like you are missing a piece. Maybe try following the example demo exactly and see if you can recreate what I did? Then try to do your version? I also cover it extensively in this class. training.powerapps911.com/courses/powerapps-for-sharepoint
