Good match, you clearly have stellar movement and great feel for the ball. Your backhand has dramatically improved over the past two years. The racket head speed on your backhand has exponentially increased, showing me you are more confident in your backhand. The backhand is now where you want it, very solid with very few erros. There is no reason to turn your backhand into a weapon, just make sure it is extremely solid and versatile. Your forehand, serve, and volleys have developed into nice weapons. Would recommend pursuing an all court play-style with the ability to sneak into the net. Continue building the offensive side of your game, take control of more points using your forehand and serve. I would recommend learning to realize when your opponent has opened up his racket face, (because they are about to slice) or turned his shoulders (because they are on the dead run) and sneak into the net. Often times this is a delayed coming into net, you hit your shot, realize they are slicing a backhand and come into the net before they can react. I have a similar play-style to you and adding that to my game has won me tons of easy points. At the level you are reaching now free points become crucial in holding serve and deciding sets. Overall very impressed with your improvement and dedication, just keep adding weapons to your game. As tennis players we are in the business of building weapons. Your opponent was a good player yet technically flawed. His forehand is much too wristy which messes up his timing, consistency, and depth. His backhand is entirely his right arm, which explains the lack of control. Both very fixable problems. Great match, good work.

Nice match! phabulous has a good game (massive forehands) but against an amazing defender like you, he needs to follow his shots into the net and finish there. I think he's too used to dominating his opponents from the baseline and not having to have a Plan B.
@JosephBayot
@JosephBayot 4 года назад
Very true. Stood out to me from the very beginning. He clearly has the athleticism for it, but just needs to make a deliberate effort to finish points when he has the opportunity off a big groundstroke.

Fun to watch! If phabulous did two things, his level would jump up alot! 1. Learn to not hit 90% open stance FH. 2. (ties into 1) use his legs with all of his shots (serve, fh, bh, even volley) and not just arm it. *on the run, being forced to move your legs, his FH was great!

terrific "real world" match guys! Watching this level of tennis is more relatable to us mere mortals than pretending to be Nadal! A Quick question Andrew: do you sometimes struggle hitting your forehand long and over the baseline? I'm asking because I notice your raquet face is somewhat open on the backswing and I struggle with that same issue. Thanks and, again, great vid

Oh come on would you really call that out? Especially if you're playing with a buddy. That's too close. Give the opponent the benefit of the doubt. Geez. When I played growing up we would play balls that were almost a foot out sometimes. I don't know if it's the spotshot line calls on TV but it seems on all levels these days the line calls are much tighter. I applaud iracer for playing that ball... It shows his character

Not enough depth on serve returns on both sides. If you have the shots to do it, Either shorter slice to bring this guy with a ball below net hight bc you can tell thats not where he wants to finish points or he needs to be moving backwards or sideways on his first shot after his serve to reduce his first ball strike forehands. All my juniors see huge benefits in there tournaments when they understand the power of a strong return strategy

with your serve could i recommend that you keep your racquet head down a little bit longer on your windup? you will get better momentum transfer that way instead of just bringing the racquet up right away. notice the guy you’re playing against does this, and has a stronger serve

Grey shirt has nice serve and baseline shirts. But poor footwork means he is often out of position affecting the quality of his shots from baseline - spacial awareness is also an issue on the shorter balls. Otter misjudging the bounce and getting to close once again affecting the quality of the shot and making it easy for him to be passed. He could improve a lot with just some very small adjustments

From first point I knew it was going to be easy match for Racer because I saw that Phabulous does't have mind set to go to net and finsh the point wich you need against this type of player....he is uncomfortable on the net ad that way he doesn't want to go to the net.For him I all have to say is that he should focus more on improving that part than winnig match.Winning match is great but ultimate goal should be to be the best he can be.Second thing what I saw is tha he only hit deep ball wich is comfortable for Racer and just one tried drop shot and angle shot wich is good veriety and god game plan agains this type of players.He has good ground strok but he just need to have better game plan and fit all the peaces together and he can be very solid player.
