Great match. I would love to see you and Jon play on a fast court, where the ball doesn't sit up for you and give you as much time to get to it. You have great wheels. Love your matches, especially with Jon.

If you watch yourself do you see some points where you move in to mid court then retreat instead of advancing. If you want to improve to the next rating you should try moving in. Just some observations from a High School Coach, PTR certified and USTA Junior coach.

Andrew, see Thomas Mederiois below. You are such a solid / fit player but my guess as to why you don't close on the net after a great approach shot is either you don't like to play volleys or worry about being lobbed? It would be great to see you add this component into your repertoire. Well done on the win.

I commented on athelets playing sports really for competition and not fans or entertainment as I see here. It's just evolved into a business as pros yet it's always competition. I became a great athlete training for me to be good as the people I enjoyed competing against in basketball, tennis, golf, etc. Good work guys.

I have some recommendations for improving certain aspects of your game. Forehand- Have to work on stepping into the ball and not hitting open stance so often. It's not good to hit open stance on every forehand you get, especially when it is sitting in the middle of the court. You seem to have trouble with midcourt balls that sit and you are not comfortable with moving into the net. I believe it all starts with having proper footwork where you can hit consistently with a closed stance and step into the ball and rip it. This will help tremendously with transitioning to the net. Backhand- Have to work on hitting open stance when on the move. You can lose a lot of time and direction when you constantly hit with a closed stance on the backhand side. You want to step into the ball when you have no more than a few steps to get to the ball. Strategy- Start learning how to construct points better. I see that you change direction often, and I think you do it too much and at the wrong time. Try practice points where your main goal is to go crosscourt on all your balls until you have a short ball where you can make a statement and punch it down the line. This is how the pros think. Have you ever played a game where you were designated to go one direction and the other person was designated to go the other?? For example, you can only play cross court and your hitting partner can only play down the line. When doing this drill, you will see that the person in the crosscourt always has the advantage. This is why it is important to control the crosscourt during points in a match, you don't want to give up the crosscourt so easily. You want to either hit a strong shot to force your opponent to make a bad decision and change direction with a weak ball or change direction yourself when your opponent hits a weak ball. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jihxS6u-WCA.html watch that clip of highlights between rafa and cilic. You will see that typically the player will lose the point when they change direction down the line or don't get the ball crosscourt enough. YOu will see that the player almost always wins the point once they attack and change direction of the short or sitting ball. This is the pattern of play that all high-level players follow. Understanding the dynamics of how pattern of play effects the way points are won will help you tremendously.

Not sure if this was intentional strategy on your part Andrew but you don’t seem to be consistently swinging out(mainly on the forehand side) in this match the way I’ve come to expect you to in your videos. Was this part of your plan against Jon or not so much? Either way a match well played as usual.

You seem so cool under pressure. Have a great sense for not overplaying the shot needed, but going for some zip in the right situation. Nice passing shots and smooth movement. We'd love to see you play down on the Peninsula in some of the summer tournaments in Hampton and Newport News if you get a chance (some clay, some hardcourt). Often the 4.5 draws have some 5.0 players (teaching pros, former college, etc.). I wouldn't be playing you though, only in the 3.5 level:) The organization is PTPA. Some aficianodos down here would be delighted to have you play.

Hey Andrew, not judging here...but for 5.0 player ur volleys have to be crisp and solid...don't u think? I watched ur matches and most of the times ur retreating to back court when ur already @ the service line. Ur ground strokes are solid and ur fast! Keep up w/the videos...nice job!😉👍

The court is not compliant with the Rules of Tennis, so this cannot be an official match. (None of your videos have compliant courts, that I've seen). Per, Section 1 - The Court: "For doubles matches, the centres of the net posts shall be 3 feet (0.914 m) outside the doubles court on each side. For singles matches, if a singles net is used, the centres of the net posts shall be 3 feet (0.914 m) outside the singles court on each side. If a doubles net is used, then the net shall be supported, at a height of 3 ½ feet (1.07 m), by two singles sticks, the centres of which shall be 3 feet (0.914 m) outside the singles court on each side." A piece of 3/4x2 trim wood costs $3US and it takes about thirty minutes with hand tools to make singles sticks. I went to a DIII school with a lengendary tennis program, and all the courts on campus had singles sticks (painted school colors, obvi). Love your channel ... but get those sticks and find out how hard up-the-line shots really are. It also makes a huge difference with wide serves (Ad court for righty/Deuce for lefty).

Up to the receiver to call it, so even if he saw it as out, doesn't matter since he played it anyway. And if he didn't see it as out, then it's a good thing he won the point anyway. :)

Wow you’re getting better and better by the day. I’d say the biggest area you can improve is your serve. If you can get a bigger wind up in your arm and put more torso rotation forwards, it’d take a lot of pressure ofd your shoulders and add a few extra mph. Your ground strokes are on point and your movement is great though, so I think a bigger serve would take you to a new level.

Why you never use lobs? He always stays near the net. You should attack more, he has a very bad defensive game: if you keep him far from the net he can’t do anything bc his shots are flat or slice

Come on. Pretty obvious who would win here. It’s all about fitness. The fit person will have the stamina and better footwork, easier to move around the court to win.
@automaticsweetheart2009
@automaticsweetheart2009 4 года назад
I disagree. Have you ever watched Andrew's previous matches with Jon? I don't think Jon was at his best here. When Jon is on, his serve and volley game is wickedly difficult for baseliners to deal with. I'm not saying that fitness doesn't play a big part in Andrew's success here but I think Jon has the potential to be much more effective than what he was in this match.
