Quick, and to the point! Great results too. I’m building Mavericks F14 over the aggressor as in the opening scenes of Top Gun. My comfort zone is commercial aircraft, but your system of pre shading looks so easy and to the point that my next military model, I’ll definitely give it a try. Thanks!

I'm working on a Panvavia tornado in pretty much the same colour scheme as your bf110 and I can honestly say, providing you have good brush control this is a really cool way to get that pre shaded look for those who can't afford or don't have the space for an airbrush. Also less messy than a wash.

This is so much simpler than my method of using a sharp tool to scrape (not cut) out the panel lines to deepen them for washes!
@Texicus_Reddicus
@Texicus_Reddicus Год назад
you can also get a bit of interest by lightly dry brushing a light colour onto each panel by really jamming a big soft brush around it. It creates a sort of circular gradient that makes each panel stand out

really good idea and well executed ; the only thing I would say is that some panel lines , particularly in 1/72 scale are grossly overscaled and I don't want to emphasize them more .
@quickkits
@quickkits 9 лет назад
Actually that's a good point which I think I forgot to mention in the BF110 video, that the panel lines on that kit were especially over-sized!

I can't get it to work. I've tried with a 4B and even a 9B pencil, but I can't smear the lines with my cotton swab no matter how much and hard I brush with them. It always ends up with a bunch of lines instead. And I can't understand what I'm doing wrong. I have primed my model before painting and then painted with Tamiya enamel paint

I'm a more advanced modeller living in Holland (yes i'm English) would love your view on other model brand names, e.g. Trumpeter. Also other types of models e.g. sailing ships, Lorry's ect. It would interesting i think to hear your view.

Owen, fantastic videos, thank you. I have watched them all. In "Chalk washes " and "Preshading no airbrush" you seem to be describing 2 different techniques to accomplish about the same results. Is my understanding correct, or are these different techniques for different results?
@quickkits
@quickkits 7 лет назад
+S A the results are different. A chalk wash will define the line of the panel line, whereas this pre-shading will make the area around the panel line look worn. You could combine the two techniques but it could look a bit extreme

Do i need to prime before painting a plastic model and do you need to varnish the model after painting to protect against chipping? Or pealing? If so. What to use? I'm having problems with paint chipping off my models after painting and can't get them to stick to the plastic! If you know please help!

Good idea. Only thing, now it seems preshading is indeed pre. It has become a thing of the past. There are things like black basing. However i think preshading is a good way for the novice to get into superdetailing/weathering their plastic models. There are many ways to Rome.

i am about to get my first kit, what is pre shading and what does it do? pls help
@quickkits
@quickkits 8 лет назад
If it's your first kit you probably don't need to try pre-shading yet, just see if you enjoy the hobby first. Pre-shading is used to try and simulate the stressed and worn look of the metal and paintwork along the edges of the panels on the model. Hope that helps :)
