FUN FACT: The original script had it written that the final fight was supposed to end with Arnold Schwarzenegger killing the Predator and winning the one-on-one hand-to-hand fight, but it was changed at the last minute because Arnold himself was adamant on it and he was realistic enough to know that in a real fight, the Predator not ONLY would've won, but he would've mopped the floor with him (and he's very right to think that as Arnold stands at 6'2 tall while the Predator stands at a gigantic 7'3!) So the ending was instead changed to Arnold winning the final fight through his wits and traps instead of his brute strength alone.
@trevorjames4619
@trevorjames4619 Год назад
Even more so, the original script was to have billy(just the character)have the final face off with the predator, but once Arnold signed on, everything changed.

@@GeorgeTropicana You're familiar with the concept of weight divisions in sport fighting right? Because even the most skilful 130lber would get ripped apart by someone weighing 220lbs plus.. To pretend that size has no effect on fighting ability is idiotic.

@purpleprinc3

@@jerbil9353 Depends if that 130lber 'skillful' fighter is an idiot and fights his opponent in the same manner, the 220lbs would definitely have an advantage, but only if he utilizes that advantage. Sports fights are completely different to street fights, sport fights or matches are designed to enhance the advantage of a weight class. Whereas in a real fight, anything goes to level the playing field. I don't pretend that size has no effect on fighting ability, but to think a 130lber would get ripped apart by a 220lbs in a street fight clearly shows you haven't seen many, because I've seen all sorts of sizes knock each other out (visit the UK on a weekend). To think sports matches are like real fights is idiotic. Just saying.

Many reactors like to hear themselves talk, throwing in lots of useless banter along the way instead of paying attention. You saved your thoughts for afterwards (well researched too) and kept your input minimal during the film. Job well done, very impressed with this reaction.
@hellomark1
@hellomark1 Год назад
Not to dunk on your comment too much, because I agree with it to a point, but part of the reason they might talk so much, especially over what might seem like important parts of the movie, is because RU-vid's filters will blank out the audio if they leave too much of the original movie, or just take it down altogether if it's not changed enough. So it sucks because we'd definitely get better reactions if that wasn't the case.

Amazingly, Kevin Peter Hall was the shortest of I think 5 brothers. Predator 2 was his final film appearance, he knew he was dying but he asked Stan Winston for one more chance to reprise the role of the Predator, and Winston bent over backwards to make it happen. An interesting note of Billy's decision to face the Predator is, when he cuts his own chest, he's using an old warrior tradition of denying your enemy the honor of drawing first blood. He really did go out on his own terms in that regard, and that's why the Predator took his skull and spine. He was so impressed with Billy choosing to face him, knowing he couldn't win. And you're 100% correct, the Predator wasn't imitating Dutch, he was asking Dutch what he was to have defeated him.
@waterbeauty85
@waterbeauty85 Год назад
I liked how Hawkins kept telling Billy those crude p*ssy jokes, but when he caught Anna as she tried to escape, he literally pleaded with her to stop because he didn't want to use force on her. Bill Duke doesn't get enough credit for his acting making Mac so scary and intimidatinging with Dillon yet so heartfelt and touchingly sad over Blaine's death. I also liked the nods to Billy's Native American heritage and its implied historical connection to the Predators (though the novel actually comes right out and says that when Billy decided to make his last stand, he was thinking of his ancestors who had been killed by Predators). I thought those touches gave the characters more depth and compexity than you'd expect in the average action movie.

Without knowing any connection or lore, and him being a native American, I saw a simplified explanation. He felt hunted and knew the predator was close. I'm not a fan of the lore using him like a token native and having paranormal superpowers. We get enough typical portrayals like that.

The big face-off with the Predator was almost completely different. In the original script, Dutch would have beaten the Predator very easily. Arnold said to the director, "This doesn't make any sense. He's an alien monster, I'm just a man." Any other action star at that time would have been happy to be overpowered, but Arnold knew the right way to sell both of these characters.

'Old Painless' was an actual, real working Minigun. What's funny about it is that before its first Test Firing they were worried that it would break its dolly & starting rotating (and FIring!) wildly in all directions. So there was a great deal of initial trepidation. However, what they found is that the rotation of the barrels actually set up a rock-like centripetal force that made the gun extremely stable & the problem was MOVING it. ^_^ Excellent & thoughtful review Young Lady. It's always a pleasure to see the younger generations appreciate these gems of film history.

My favorite movie growing up, I used to watch it over and over at night, couldn't fall asleep unless it was playing. It has a unique way of drawing you in slowly one way, then BAM, totally setting off in a whole new direction, from war movie to sci-fi just like that. You first see an invisible/hazy apparition, thinking it's some dumb, primitive animal. Then he appears with a first aid kit repairing himself, giving rise to a whole new sentient, intelligent hunter, a spine-tingling introduction to one of Sci-Fi's greatest characters, making a game and mincemeat out of 6 of the finest special forces soldiers on Earth. Soldiers that decimated an entire village of guerilla mercenaries easily and without injury and he could have easily killed Arnold as well but wanted to slowly play and destroy him hand to hand, under estimating man's ability to think, plan, and survive by any means necessary. Your reaction was terrific, you are truly 1 of a kind, smart and beautiful, with a great personality, you carry yourself and express yourself so well, find a career in presentations, you do it so well. I hope you never lose that sweetness, perkiness, and freshness you have, it's so endearing and refreshing to see in today's world. On a side note, a lot of actors go into politics cuz it's all about acting, pretending to be someone you're not, someone for the people, an all-around good person striving for the betterment of others. When in reality their the crookedest, lying, manipulative, and most corrupt people on the planet, obsessed with wealth, power, and controlling others.

The language the Predator learns is his interpretation of what the sentences mean in the context that they're used. "Anytime" is associated with the dying scorpion. "Over here" and "turn around" is calling someone over. "What the hell are you" is what his opponent says as he stands over his dying body. Which could be interpreted as "I win", "You lose", or "Die", which he throws right back in Dutch's face as he arms the self destruct. And the laugh is Billy's laugh. This script is way more intelligent than most people realize. The Predator's character development may not be obvious, but it's there.

Jesse Ventura was a member of a Naval demolitions team in Vietnam, later became a successful professional wrestler and at the end of his career became a color commentator, about the same time he got into acting. After that, he went into politics, eventually becoming the Governor of Minnesota for four years (1999-2003)...Arnold ALSO went into politics and became the Governor of California in the early 2000's. Just some fun little factoids for you.

My Dad took me to see this in the theater and I was blown away, it was one of the coolest things I've ever seen (the Predator still remains my favorite alien species, their different but similar looks are all awesomeness sauce)! You definitely need to watch Predator 2 and Prey (the prequel to the franchise). I'm so freakin' happy that I discovered your channel, your reactions are entertaining and fun and you seem to genuinely enjoy the movies you've watched. When I got the notification that you had uploaded a reaction to Predator, I was like hell to the freakin' yeahz!!!!! Again, great reaction and good commentary, keep up the good work! The costume Van Damme wore was actually very different and very goofy looking. Thankfully the filming took a break and they got Stan Winston who did the effects for Terminator and Aliens before this gave the suit a complete redesign into the one we see and of course they hired Kevin Peter Hall to wear it when they began to shoot the movie again. There is footage you can find on here of what the original suit looked like, or at least the all red version they used to be able to put the invisible effect over in post-production. Apparently Van Damme didn't understand the all red was for that reason and thought that it was going to be bright red in the actual movie.

Loved the reaction. Feel like this film does a great job establishing its characters quickly and effectively. You get attached to them even though you don't know that much about them. Can highly recommend Die Hard (1988) for another great, tightly-written action movie by the same director (if you haven't seen it). I always think of these two movies when I think of classic 80's action - they feel related somehow, like cousins.

The Predator's laugh at the end was it mimicking Billy's laugh it had recorded earlier. I definitely remember Harry and the Hendersons. If fact it was released in 1987 just like Predator.. I was 12 and technically a bit too young for Predator, but my Dad took me. I loved it. It was the 80's. Another movie worth watching from 87 is Robocop. I wasn't big into wrestling growing up, but friends were. So I remember watching Jesse Ventura wrestle in the 80's His wrestling name was "Jesse 'The Body' Ventura"

I am an older nerd who kind of despairs when I hear (and I have heard, on at least a few occasions) young reactors describe the effects in movie as "the graphics", like a video game, or how the "CGI" in the original Robocop looked kinda dated.

it's such a remarkable film, just imagine trying to make this film or even trying to sell the idea of it..especially today, impossible, it would be a total disaster, yet they pulled it off and it's amazing, only the 1980's could pull it off, it's amazing what the 80's could make work, the film makers at that time just knew how to use the right balance of humor and gore and violence and drama, such a fun ride

If there's a single thing I'd take out of the movie it's that opening shot with the ship passing by Earth. The twist that an alien is hunting them would have a greater impact, I think.
@normlee6566
@normlee6566 Год назад
The alien could only mimic what it heard as far as human communication. So, it repeating what Arnold said, "what the hell are you?" expressed its disbelief that Arnold could defeat it when so many others could not (as opposed to Arnold's intent of, "what species are you?". The predator's laugh was actually mimicking Billy's laugh which it recorded earlier. Just as it whispered, " turn around" as it hunted Dillon, a phrase it recorded when Mac said it to Dillon when he caught the scorpion.

Predator is such a blast. The whole Aliens vs Predator idea came from a certain movie as a fun Easter egg that then spawned a whole Extended Universe of comics and novels such as Alien VS Predator. Many of these comics are set in the future featuring the Colonial Marines who you know from Aliens so pretty much picture the film Aliens but add a Predator into the mix and that's some of the comics. The movies though aren't seen as canonical to the Alien or Predator movies as the Prequal Alien movies introduced new lore that clashed with the lore introduced in the first Alien Vs Predator film. But the idea of both existing in the same universe is still very much true the two AVP movies just happened to clash with new lore. Timeline: *Predator Films:* Prey - *Recommend* Predator - Seen Predator 2 - *Recommend* Alien vs Predator - *Recommend* (Non Canon) Alien vs Predator 2 - Skippable (Non Canon) Predators - *Recommend* The Predator - Meh *Alien Films:* Prometheus - *Recommend* (Prequal) Alien: Covenant - *Recommend* (Prequal) Alien - Seen Aliens - Seen Alien 3 -Recommend Alien: Resurrection - Mixed for Me

Hello again! Just a small, non-spoilery note about "Alien vs, Predator: Requiem," I see a lot of people complain that it is very dark (as in actual light level, not tone), but if you punch up the brightness just a bit, it improves the viewing experience dramatically. Personally, AvP2 is one of my guilty pleasure movies. I have fun just getting a bowl of popcorn and settling in for the ride. 😄 Hope your day has been and continues to be great!

I enjoy your videos so much because you actually listen to and watch the movie... so many reactors (some very big ones) watch carelessly or talk nonsense while they're watching so they miss key points and then they say why is this and why is that? Lol... then ask their viewers to explain things to them in the comments! you on the other hand really listen and I can see you thinking about what's going on and i see you figuring it out...that gives viewers pleasure i think...it's like a payoff... and then you do the summary after you've watched it again and you do research! Very nice and enjoyable watching someone that puts so much effort into it!
