Hi very good review and very informative. There is a safety issue I would like to point out for your consideration. I know you indicated the exhaust is pointing outward. I am involved with Emergency Management, and carbon monoxide is a real problem. We have people running generators here in NH where I live and they do something similar (at the edge of their garage under the house, pointing out), or even on a deck outside. The problem is the wind direction can (a) change and (b) blow the carbon monoxide back at the dwelling. Please be aware that carbon monoxide is a POISON, so having a source of fresh air is not sufficient to keep you safe. To the best of my knowledge it builds up in your blood stream. I know you may have done this a number of times successfully, but we see poisonings with almost every major power outage. Also to the best of my knowledge the recommendation is that the generator should be at least 10 feet away from the structure and "down wind". Please stay safe. /Jim

Point taken, about the only time I run this generator is when I am welding. With that in mind, I weld outside my conex box because most the things I'm welding are bigger and wouldn't fit in the conex anyway and I like not having to worry about starting a fire in the conex box. Thank you for adding this to my comment section though, this video gets a lot of views and some people might not think about wind direction and keeping the exhaust out of where they are working. :)

Not only carbon monoxide is the hazard of using portable generators. Electric shocks, electrocution, and burns are one of the hazards of using generators too. Even fire hazards. I have things to explain to everyone about the generator hazards. Here are the generator safety tips: - Never ever back feed your generator - Please do not overload your generator - Please do not allow an unqualified person or your children to operate and service the portable generator. The generator can be hot during an operation. The generator can be hot enough to cause burns. - Please keep your children especially your little ones away from the portable generator at all times so they won’t get hurt. Always keep an eye on your little ones - Do not run your generator in the porch, deck, balcony, garage, or indoors. Always use your generator outdoors but 15-20 feet away from your house. Never use your generator indoors. - install a carbon monoxide detector - Never ever refuel your generator while it’s running. You need to let your generator cool off before refueling it. - Do not wear loose clothes when operating the generator - Never touch the generator with wet hands. Never run your generator in wet conditions so you won’t get electrocuted. - Please use the right cord for your generator. The cord should not be worn out. Hope this helps. Remember it’s better to be safe than sorry

I bought this exact generator also. I live at higher altitude and so I changed out the jet using the included high altitude kit. It was relatively simple. After changing the jet, I started it for the first time. It started first pull and has started first pull every time. I also thought it would come with the wheels. I plan to buy the wheel kit for it but I have not had any problems moving it around.

Great review. I appreciate your efforts. As an electrical engineer, I would like to offer you some of the math involved to calculate your load. 1 horsepower = 744 watts Electrical motor starting surge is 30 % So starting a 1 HP capacitor start motor will require 766.32 watts. Older motors may need a lot more. Your wire has Inherent Resistance and that number varies quite a bit depending on conductor type size and the length of the run. Longer runs need heavier conductors. As a rule of thumb, use at least 14ga conductors for runs of 50' or less. Use 10ga for up to 100'. Use 8ga for runs more than 100 feet. This will minimize you wattage loss due to a small conductor. Note: As the wire's temperature increases, so, the resistance increases and your power (wattage) drops. If your wire feels warm, get a bigger gauge wire.

Thank you for the calculation, I can use this in the future. :)

Deff good generators. I purchased the 3500/4375 generator just before hurricane Michael. I was cautious being it's harbor freight. Great generator for the money. I been draining the tank after use, but this last time I just added stabil to a full tank. Hopefully no issues next time I need to run it.

I have had the 8kw gen from harbor freight for about 5 years now, I average about 25 days a winter with no power. Have never had an issue with it. Also when sizing a gen, do not Exceed 70% of the running watts. When you go over that you’ll kill the voltage regulator in the generator head. I only use about 3K watts on mine, I never really push it. I’m pretty sure that’s why I have never had an issue with this Chinese generator

I’ve got one. I opted not to get the warranty. Because I am cheap... after running the generator on my side jobs, construction, there’s metal shavings in the oil. The engine still runs FLAWLESSLY but for the 140$ I d get it. And if anything after. A year and a half bring it in saying it doesn’t work and they will give you a new one

I was gonna go at that wattage but 150 or... more I think...for a 9000, would very easily run my small 2 60amp bedroom slab till I move, has a small 240 15amp ac in the wall and I also have an old blackmax 50 gal 240 air compressor, single stage for auto repairs, I've seen videos of these running houses. My old buddy that passed was an electrician told me how sinewaves work, there longer than 120 and draw less on damand than 120, if you can wire your water pump 240 it should work, a 2 stage air compressor would take more for sure I think

I just bought the Predator 6500 and saw in the manual it needs to be grounded. I never even thought about that. I assumed the frame grounded it. My plan is to wheel it out of my garage when needed and just use some heavy duty extension cords. Does it really need to be grounded since it’s a portable one?

I have no idea about grounding it, thats something new to me. I guess it would be a good idea to ground it if you were using it for a permanent power source in a house or garage. I don't know of anybody that grounds a generator when they set it up for a temporary power source. :)

How has this thing aged? I'm in the market for one and a Honda is more than I want to spend. I've had terrible look with other Chinese brands and Briggs and Stratton/Generac aren't much better.

I haven't used it constantly but whenever I need it it fires right up and works great. I use it whenever I need to weld something or power something in the storage container that its in. Probably ran through about a dozen tanks of gas so far. Hope this helps. :)

If you want I can edit up a sound clip for you. Did you want it to sound quiet or loud, cause without a decibel meter a sound clip means nothing. Thanks for watching. :)

@filolll - I pulled the trigger & bought mine after checking numerous reviews yesterday. FYI - Many HF locations were already sold out when I went yesterday. You can still purchase tax free in FL online. Shipping & wheel kit included I believe I paid $624 total. Not bad considering the same wheel kit I paid $30 for online was about $70 in-store.

I will be doing another review in a week or so, one more about how it has held up over more time and use but it's a good generator as far as I can tell. Starts on the first or second pull every time, even in the middle of winter and freezing weather. :)

Interesting that I think I'm seeing in your video is 420cc?? Dosen't show very long or clearly. Marked on the starter rope cover, In your video. And harbor freight is using your video and with the same watts rating there now advertising it as a 301cc engine.

@@KoalityofLife its possible they didn't have the 301cc engine a few years ago. Its a relatively new item. That way they have a engine in the 9hp class not just 6.5 and 13hp and the V twin

Wish you would have started the generator so we could hear how loud it would be.
@KoalityofLife
@KoalityofLife 4 года назад
I could have but anybody can edit sound on a video to either be louder or quieter than what it is. There is no real way to show the noise level of what you are reviewing unless you have a decibel meter. I don't have a decibel meter. I can tell you that you can work around it while it is running but if you are talking to someone right next to the machine you will have to raise your voice so they can hear you. Get about 15 feet away from it and you can talk normal. Hope this helps. :)

@@KoalityofLife , just FYI, they do have decibel readings apps for smart phones but I do appreciate your feedback on the noise level, it helps.

this is not a inverter generator, I would not run sensitive electronic stuff off of it. To many spikes on output of this. But for non electronic stuff, it's fine. Inverter generators cost a bit more....you get what you pay for.
