We have used the ru-vid.comUgkxOTeIs0vv4_9B5hsmnLsk9r930uDQLu_Y for probably 30 hours with our camper and it’s been great! The noise level is really only noticeable when running the AC and other appliances like the microwave, hair dryer, or coffee pot. It’s not huge like other ones and it has wheels so even at 90lbs, I can move it!
Thanks a bunch, I bought this during a power outage to keep my fridge and deep freezer going and could not find the oil plug for the life of me. After your video I had everything plugged in within 10 minutes.
Came straight from the embedded video on harbor freight website on the product, Very informative, It’s exactly what I’m looking for just enough to run a fridge and a small window ac unit and charge cell phones. Thank you.
Thanks for your review. I think I've spent weeks at looking at reviews on over a dozen generators I liked. I ended up buying this one and also bought the 3500 watt inverter as well. I bought two because I wanted a dedicated generator for the home front, and with the 30 amp on it, can run the RV as well. But when we are out camping or to run computers and such, or maybe on small appliance, I got the other one to take with us or to use around the house. About to unbox these and get them going. I haven't had much luck in the past with my very first generator which ended up just falling apart with hardly no hours on it. So here goes!
Please watch this video too about how to use your portable generator the right way ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-I1jT3ANENvI.html I hope you like and subscribe
Thank you Sir, I am retired on a fixed budget. That said I won't be buying a Honda so this review has Givin me all the confidence I need to buy myself one.🤝👍
It was easy to set up and get running. You have to change the oil every 25 hours of use. I get 16 hours with each four gallon tank fill. Get the wheel kit. With the wheel kit it's very easy to push or pull on level dry ground. It weighs 100 pounds empty. Read the manual first. Never let it run out of gas while an electrical load is attached to it. You can damage the armature. Never shut it down unless you have disconnected the extension cords. You can damage the armature. Uses 10W30 oil, about 20 ounces. Don't let it sit out in the rain. Let it warm up for five minutes before attaching a load. Hope that helps.
Very nicely done video. audio wasn't too bad considering the gen noise etc. and your hands on descriptions well done thanks fo taking the itme and sharing.
Just subscribed! Thank you for sharing this video. I am shopping for a generator and saw Harbor Freight is having on sale until 9/30 for $360 then I looked up on RU-vid for a review then I found you! Thank you
This was an excellent, excellent review. I just bought the machine and it was great. Sounds like a good product. Very helpful video, and very thorough. THIS IS AN EDIT FROM YESTERDAY. Video was good, but I he needs to do another one, telling how much oil he used to fill.
there is a mark on the dipstick, you need to chk it , as you fill it slowly bit by bit, because the mark is about 1/2 way on the stick....& it's not very distinct, especially at nite working with a flashlight.
I'm 3 years behind, but the manual states to pour in .6 quarts of 10W-30...just over a half quart. For my '97 GMC K2500 4x4, the manual states I can use 10W-30 (Spring or Summer) or 5W-30 (Winter) oil for the engine. The 5W-30 will run better in the winter like stevecrowakaferv8140 did for his generator's engine.
I have the 9,000 peak watt version of this and ran it for 96 straight hours non-stop during a 5 day power outage in Maine. Thing ran great and got a good oil change after that. Worried about long term reliability after that but for the price, I'll take it. These are great generators.
This video, along with the owners manual I found online was a big help this past weekend when we set up the generator and used it for the first time during a power outage. Two things worth noting that were not mentioned in this video are that the generator needs to be grounded using #6 AWG copper wire and a grounding rod and the generator needs a cover if using it during rain or snow because moisture cannot get on the generator.
@hangerGarage. Great Video, I bought the Same Generator back in November of 2018. Great Machine. Remember when you run it to use Premium fuel not "Rec Gas", although it may be sort of the same thing- easier to find in pinch. DO Not run Ethanol ( E85 based Fuels) - and always use Sta-Bil or Sea Foam. This will allow the Fuel to Burn really clean and slow, and maximize the run tine on as little gas as possible. I ran my generator for 28 hours straight out of the box. Also. it does not erode at the fuel lines. When you Shut it down- First close the fuel valve to drain the carburetor, then hit the main switch. All in all.... Great Review my man!
Yeah Rec Gas is gas made for Rec machines ( snowblowers, snowmobiles, dirt bikes, etc...) Its ethanol free , so great for anything like this generator. That is amazing you have gotten it to run for 28 hours!! I will have to look into running the sea foam. I actually haven't run a full tank of gas through mine so I'm not sure what the run time actually is. I was planning on doing another review in a year or so after some power outages. The shutting down with the fuel valve is great idea! I do the same so that the float in the carb doesn't get gummed up. I appreciate you watching and the comments! Hope you keep up with the channel, Cheers!
@HangarGarage: I too have not run a Full tank as I always Store mine ready to go with a full tank of Gas in it. As for the Sea foam... Look into it, I know it works well for Boats, Cars, and golf Carts. Sta-bil is a little more exact with the rationing amount for the gas mixture. I also Change the oil every 10-15 Hours, Not 20. You would be surprised how dirty Synthetic oil can get in a short amount of time. Plus with the Storms being the way they are, This has to be in tip-top shape at all times. Anywhooo, Look forward to a Maintenance Video.
I used premium because my cars need it and didn't want different types sitting around the house. Had to run it continuously in an emergency, two tanks worth. Used 5W30 and need to change it. haha. She runs smooth.
Great video. I watched to see if I was doing anything wrong. I just bought one and couldn't get it to start. It pulls over super hard. Almost like no assembly lube was used or there's a tight bearing.
I don't know how they did it, but the run time has increased dramatically from the model that this is replacing (Predator 4000). The 4000 has a run time of 10 hours, and this new 4375 has a 16 hour run time. Yet they have the same size engine, and same size gas tank. Plus the 4375 obviously makes a little more power, too. Impressive improvement.
You are obviously not relating personal experience differences.... but instead you are stating the written, claimed, run-time statements on the box or on the instructions from Harbor Freight. The older 4000 has much linger run time than expected. A lot (in either case) depends on how heavy electrically-loaded it is.
a great tip: change out oil after 3 hrs. and repeat after 20 hrs. or less 15 hrs. ! scale inside engine will wear off in this time frame. also no synthetic oil in small engines... great vid. thank you...
@@stevecrowakaferv8140 Due to molecular polarity. Synthetic is "like" water and can mix with condensation moisture and stay in mixture. Conventional oil repels water and "boils" it off at operating temps. Big engines run hotter due to water cooling ,thermostat ,O2 sensor controls.
After owning several gasoline generators I took the leap and had installed the 20KW Guardian Generic whole house generator. I don't have to keep a supply of gasoline on hand all the time. The installation of this generator took about 2 days. Whenever power goes out I just start counting 1,2,3,4 (generator comes on)5,6,7,8,9 (Solenoids on the control panel outside the house disconnect the city power) 10 the generator switches the house over to the generator's power. Every Saturday morning about mid-day the generator starts up, does a system check, runs about 15 minutes and shuts back down. The generator runs on natural gas or propane. If it has to run a week or two I don't have to worry about having to haul gallons of gasoline (even if I could find it) back to the house and store it.
Man that sounds cool but $15,000 ish for your setup compared to sub $500...I’ll haul gas around and change the oil. I’ll even start it up manually and check it myself 😆
@@bowtiebuilding That is a good generator for short outages. What do you do when you are out of gas and all the gas stations everywhere are out of power too. You can go to a $120 motel that is now charging $ 250+ a night. Stay in it for about 3+ weeks at that price. While you are away from home thieves are stealing everything in your house that isn't nailed down.
@@dhansel4835 honestly a good question, and my hats off to you for thinking ahead and investing in your house and looking out for your family. We have natural gas heaters and could rough it in the cold. We live in the piney woods of east Texas and a country boy can survive haha. We’d be at the house and if I needed I’d send the wife and kids to stay with family although our insurance covers a few days of a hotel stay in the event of a power outage. I feel sorry for the fool who tries to steal from me
Would love an update video seeing this one is 4 years old , telling us how it worked out do you still have does it still work as good holding up power ect , pros and cons would you buy again ect .. thank you
Just got mine, got it used for 190$ in store basically brand new lol someone used it during a outage and returned it and man it's got some power for a smaller generator and runs for hours
What about grounding it and/or running electronics on it? I'm finding contradicting information related if I need to ground or not. Manual says the GCFI outlets don't work without the (not included) grounding rod
Excellent video. How heavy is the whole generator? Can you lift the whole thing and be able to place it and take out at the back of an SUV or pickup truck without using loading ramps? I’m planning to use it remotely with me whenever I go to a jobsite
not sure if it's mentioned anywhere, in 6 months, even with your stabil, it wont start if you left it the way you stopped it. you should turn the gas OFF and let the thing run until it dies to get all the gas out of the carburetor before you store it. Stabil is a good product, but it wont stop the carb jets from getting clogged by old gasoline.
My YAMAHA does that as well. I just put StaBil in all my gas cans, and I put a sniff of Lucas fuel injector cleaner in every now and then. It doesn’t hurt to drain the bowl on the carb now and then either. It’s easy. One screw.
Useful, confidence-building video. Getting ready to fire up our 4375 for the first time. Thank you for showing the way. (BTW, I guess you know by now, but you put handle on upside down. It stores with the handle pinned in vertical.)
We just bought this exact generator. Can you advise what oil magnetic dipstick you found? I’ve not found one for this machine. The ones I’ve found for predators are for inverters.
Hi test Gas. If you leave Fuel in them to long. They gum up and you may have to clean the fuel the fuel valve filter. If not replace the fuel valve and the carburetor. This appliance is hard to maintaine over the years.
Great video, thank you. Thinking of purchasing one of these as backup power for my fridges this summer. A question for anybody who might know: I see this unit has a DC power port. (It appears to be a cigarette lighter style plug.) How do you get DC power from this unit? Does it have a rectifier built in?
I need one of these really bad. I live on the beach in North Carolina and last year a hurricane knocked out the power for over 2 weeks. There is another hurricane heading this way! Lets all hope it misses North Carolina!
I never heard of a Predator 4375, I heard of the 4000 the 6500 mine is the Predator 8750 and the biggest is the Predator 9000 they used to make the Predator 13000 but stopped and non of them have raised letters is it a new model? Also you said your in Michigan and the houses look familiar I also live in Michigan Downriver and have a bungalow style house too. My manual says don’t run any load till after you ran the generator for 2 hours and yesterday I changed my oil with Castro full synthetic 10W30 after running conventional oil 10W30 conventional oil after I ran it for 5 hours to let the engine seat properly. I have a 60 amp service panel in my detached garage and used to run an 80 gallon compressor off my 30 amp breaker but since I no longer work with air tools I sold it and when I bought my Predator 8750/7,000 running watts Generator I just bought 10-4 wire and a L14-30 amp outdoor 4 prong twist lock plug and hard wired my 4 prong into my 30amp breaker and back feed back into my house. I have an Interlock on my main breaker in my 100 amp panel in basement when the power goes out I turn off my main go to garage plug in my 25 ft 4 prong cord start my generator let it settle a couple minutes and turn my 30 amp breaker on. I also installed a hard start on my Central Air but leave breaker off go back in and can run pretty much anything since my hot water furnace dryer and range/ oven are NG. They are very good units. If you have time look on Amazon or Walmart like I did you’ll be shocked I paid 499.99 with coupon for my Predator 8750 and Amazon wants 1,355.99 or Walmart 1,752.00 for the same generator.
When i turn of my generator i turn off the fuelvale and let it run out of fuel and let it stop by it self , another litle tip is to ceep it warm in the winter to make it start easier when you take it out in the snow.
I hope some of you guys will watch this video too ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-I1jT3ANENvI.html I just hope you be careful using your generators
@@tonisam962 thats correct never run them indoor , never fill gas in a warm generator , never backfeed youre house the wrong way . Get sertified electritian and put up a god proper inlet to yore house to feed youre house . In the winter when it is below 0 degree and the generator have been sitting for 6 months it is almoast impossible to start it freeseing cold therefore ceap it warm inside and take it out when you need it at least 20 feet from house. Aewsome video by the way 👍🏼👍🏼.
My house has 2 Refrigerators, an upright freezer, a 12,000 btu air conditioner, furnace, and a 65 inch TV, stereo system, and computer. Do you think it would power all that if I turn on each refrigerator individually? Or should I go with a bigger model? I like the compactness of this model.
Great review! Thank you. I do have one question. Is the tank really only 4 gallons, like the online manual states? It boasts a 16 hour run time. With 4 gallons, that's a much better hours-per-gallon ratio than any other generator in this wattage range. I've been trying to figure out if this claim is just too good to be true. The 4000/3200 Predator says it is 4 gallons also, but only 10 hours run time per tank. This is more in line with the other generators that I"m considering. If this one can run 16 hours per tank, then this is a huge advantage for me and would help my upcoming decision. Thanks.
@@btocco3931 Thanks. They say it has a "New larger tank", and the older one had 4 gallons. I'm just trying to determine how much fuel I'll need to have on-hand for about a 2-3 day outage for hurricane season preparedness. Good info on this video!
@@HangarGarage Awesome. Thanks so much for checking. This unit then has a huge advantage in run time for this wattage range. Good luck with the Hangar Garage Community. I'll check in to see what you are reviewing. I also can't wait to see when you start building the airplane!
@@donaldtregde5130 I appreciate it man!! Hopefully I can start making content again very soon! And I hope I can start the airplane in the near future! Thanks for watching and keep the comments coming!
Just curious, after some time is this unit still running well ? I just bought this model and was wondering how they hold up. I just finished break in on mine, with a light load, it was fairly quiet and ran well over four hours on exactly one gallon of gas
I bought 2 as well when I tell you it’s a little beast ran it 2 days str8 it didn’t miss a beat plus I ran hub refrigerator 2 tv ac Xbox and internet modem and the microwave when I needed!
Be careful with the portable generators that are not "inverter generators". Portable non-inverter generators have issues with blowing out anything that has electronics (most newer refrigerators, freezers, dryers, TVs, stereos, computers etc.) Most appliances have electronics that need 60Hz Perfect Sine wave (not modified) and if your generator Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) fluctuation is more than 1%-2% you may ruin your electronics.
Just to clarify, a sinewave inverter generator is the best option for sensitive electronics, but non-inverter generators like this 4375W predator are not "modified sinewaves" like the output of a cheap inverter. Cheap inverter modified sinewave outputs look like several square waves stitched together to make kind of a sinewave. I looked at the output of my 4375 Predator with an oscilloscope (with 1000W mostly resistive load) and although I could tell by looking it wasn't a perfect sinewave, it is nothing like the ugly modified sinewave outputs of inexpensive inverters.
Please watch this video about generator safety ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-I1jT3ANENvI.html I hope you watch it and please like and subscribe
I see this picked up and repeated all the time. Do you have personal experience on this, or maybe one-person removed, of having damaged anything? Too many folks pick up this statement and then spread it around like gospel. The truth is this--> yes, inverters are better but not necessary. The purity ( sine wave) of the power output is often not the problem....but voltage spikes are. The non inverters......most have AVR's ( automatic voltage regulators) that keep things in check pretty well. Then, if you do a frequency check and voltage check with something like a kill-o-watt meter....you are good to go. I even installed 2 small dedicated meters on my gen.....each one measures real-time voltage, Hz and amps.....for each of the 2 , 120V legs this unit produces. It's all good and tightly controlled. Add a surge protector for those few things your are especially worried about....and don't repeat this over-hyped warning that is mostly an upsell point by the gen manufacturers.
Just so you know, the honda 4,000w generators change in sound when u use power also. We use them at work and when I activate the trigger on my skilsaw, the generator does that exact same thing as yours. I am thinking about buying this generator at harbor freight, do you still like it? Have you had a chance to use it alot?
It would be better to use the shorter cord possible. That 100 ‘ extension cord increases the resistance which increases the load in the generator. That’s pretty much common sense.
Very true statement, when i run it to the house the cord is going to be a 25' variant, i just needed the long one to shoot the video in the grass and get to my fridge in the garage. Thanks for the comments! And thanks for watching! Cheers!
whenever you run ANYTHING over 50 feet...its best to use 10AWG extension cord first off the power supply and then if you have to go further...down to 12AWG. In heat...always full length 10Awg
two things. Not good to unplug a running fridge OR air conditioner and plug it right back in. Some have a recycle timer built in but best not to do this. it is bad for the compressor and the generator. Secondly, Turn off the fuel first and let it burn it all out of the carb and then die. This will prevent the gas from solidifying in the bowl and save on having to clean the carb after a long period of time. :) Cheers from Louisiana.
You want to balance the load between the two sides. The left plugs are a circuit, and the right plugs are a circuit. So basically if you have 2 plugs you need to plug in to the generator it is best to plug one in the left and one into the right because that will limit the chance of tripping the breakers
hello I just bought one today for $329 with coupon one year warranty for extra $49 wheels and handle set for $29 plus and oil stabilizer for $8 I think I made a good deal in harbor freight on buena park Ca... now let see how it works ..
@@briansanchez5210 just go on Google and type 4375 watt generator you can see it at 329 click on it and show the coupon in store .. also I recommend you to buy the rest as I did and put at least 2 gallons of gas to start it.. works great I already test it and no complais so far.. lots of power..
The salesman at Harbor Freight told me it will start easier with premium gasoline but to get it ethanol-free. I found ethanol-free premium gasoline at one of our local Loaf n Jug stores. I also added Fuel Stabilizer as recommended in the manual... I used PRI brand which is supposedly superior to all other fuel stabilizers. amzn.to/32sp1bz
You can but the regular gas contains ethanol which is terrible for fuel systems. It ruins fuel lines , and gums up carbs. If you don't use the generator regularly you would most likely run into problem later down the road with starting
Anyone know why my predator 4375 generator has oil dripping from the air filter? I bought it a few days ago brand new. Have changed the oil twice already in the first 3 days and have noticed both times oil dripping from the air filter. Is that normal?
That's definitely not normal. 3 possibilities I can think of. Either you put way too much oil in there, or you damaged the piston rings and oil is not kept sealed in the crankcase and sipping by or you tilted it to the side and oil flowed out of the crankcase. Good luck.
@@machinebuilder3535 where is it flowing from? When you put oil in an engine, you actually put it in the crankcase so it's normal to have oil there, not normal to see it flow out. Does the oil in the crankcase smell like gasoline? (Smell the dipstick)
@@jebr6694 i definitely tilted the generator to put oil in it. Not sure if you have this generator but they made it pretty hard to put oil in unless you have a long funnel or a long flexible funnel. I watched a video showing to tilt back to fill with oil also. I'm wondering if thats what did it. Not sure how I would have damaged the piston rings as I followed all the directions. I remember smelling the oil that came out of the air filter and it did smell slightly of gas? Not sure if I was imagining that or it has gas in it. Looked like clean un used oil also. Was not dark at all. Also the video I watched where the guy tilts it back to fill with oil is right on the website. So I assumed that was ok. Maybe it shouldn't be done though? I don't know much about generators as this is my first one.
I bought this generator today and am not to sure if I can stick weld with it. Got to weld a fence at sisters ranch with 2 1/2 pipe but have the electric plug in welder. Hope this generator works.
