What a great uncle you are. You are sharing your knowledge and building confidence in your nephew. I can see a lot of youths, like your nephew, watching your video and being encourage to try this themselves; "It is easy, and you can do it." is all they need to hear. You are very direct and clear in your explanations, which is critical; and you never talk down to your audience, even when talking about the most simple of mechanical concepts. A commendable job.
I am 54 now, when i was 44 I got the urge to go kart race, did so for 4 years, A 6.5 predator engine can put out 15 -19 hp and turn 7500 rpm alot easier than you think, If you break in the engine and do it right, those engines will last a long time and be very reliable
Cliff P if your sure the tap and bolt are correct you could use it, I would prefer (if possible) to just clean it by running a bolt in and out with some penetrating lube to avoid the chance of crosscuting the treads with an aggressive tap As for mods you can buy a stage one kit or make your own what you need to do is remove the governer gear and arm make 1" diameter exhaust about 350mm long expanding to 1.25-1.5" 100mm-150mm long at the tip, drill the carb main jet to 0.8mm and add a high flow air filter and adapter (these are reasonably priced) this will give you a decent power increase I would also add additional crankcase ventilation and filtration system
@@josephharmon3851 I've been kart racing since I was 9 and I'm 26 now. My built predator 212 performa the same as my built gx200's. Your opinion is trash
@@KartFab I installed my performance kit on my mini bike and my go kart, and both of them sound like there is a leak of compression from somewhere like a hissing sound, any advice as to what it is?
It's crazy how there is an air filter, but it needs spray to filter dirt. Ironic but makes sense because the spray is sticky and will sure catch those little particles. By the way awesome video I just traded my 250 dirt bike for a Murray full suspension dune buggy type go kart and it already had the stage 1 upgrades! I think it has a different piston too. Have a good one😁
@@deucedeuce4223 put a ziptie through the spring on the governor rod that goes to the carb lever. It won't let the spring stretch open and it'll rev higher! Did it last wknd n it rips now and I didn't even get my stage 1 kit put on yet
Hey excellent video! gotta tell ya if I am having a "tough" day or just need something to do for a few minutes I jump on my Doodlebug Hemi and blast around the neighborhood a few times, mind you I have a 69 Camaro 4 speed, an 86 C-10 shortbed & a 48 Harley Davidson 1200 sitting in the garage! so yeah doing this mod on something I'm already having fun with is a no-brainer! Thanks again!
Great video, your nephew did a great job! I like that you included him to show kids they can do it themselves. Good job, great video and that little thing rips!!
Hi, love what you do and full respect! I have been building high-performance motorcycles since the 80s. I happened upon a free Subaru 170- 6 hp setting for trash pickup on a stump grinder..Wow, you have got to do a build on one of these! Overhead cam, giant intake and exhaust ports, high-lift cam and a big-bore short-stroke with a hefty con-rod! It is built like a Honda XR engine! If you want, I can share some pics! I plan to get 15+ HP out of this reliably! Also, Super-lightweight.
As soon as I seen them breather on the gas tank and valve head I knew this is what I needed to see no one and I repeat no one shows that in their video
Great info. I've got a 79 cc I want to help the performance on. What stage is it that you pull the governor? OMG that kid needs to be wearing pads, helmet, gear, mouth guard etc...Ready for stage II
Just got a good go kart frame for 60 bux and got a 212 predator from harbor freight. Waiting for mechanic to assemble everything then I will be upgrading engine in short order. Thanks.
Love the videos! Question? What size jet or what size difference jet did you install to create proper air to fuel ratio ? We have a predator 301cc... custom exhaust and the k&n style air filter. Any help would be appreciated
Typically that comes with the kit. I buy mine from ombwarehouse.com and it's always in a baggy tucked inside the filter with the filter adapter nuts and the hex screw to hold the bracket in place.
@@lilbbbbbbb the air intake limiting factor is a 16mm hole in the carburetor that restricts air flow to 45 CFM, not the air filter cover that allows approximately 500 CFM of flow through it. It just traps more dust to keep the air filter from clogging up too fast. Cheers.
If you bought this exact engine, check your compression. And read this that I discovered. I bought the same exact engine for a big 2 person go kart, It ran fine for 10 hours, then lost power. After checking the compression on it, I was sad to see it only had 52 lbs. I took off the head, piston, checked the valves, piston, rings, gasket, and all seemed ok. I took the vales out because one seemed a little harder to push through and sanded with 600 paper. After putting it all back together I reached the compression and still had only 52 lbs instead of the 120 (8.5) it is suppose to have. NOW THE SHOCKER!!! I also bought a brand mew 3200/40000 watts generator, predator with the same exact engine. I had only started it when I got it and used it for about 20 minutes. I took the spark plug off and checked the compression. I was shocked to see it had the same 53 lbs as the other one. So Im wondering, it Harbor freight selling this engines with only 52 compression and know it or that is going on. With this little compression the engine is only making about 3 HP or less. Id like to have people with this engine check their compression and see if they also have a weak 1/2 compression as I do. If so, then we are getting the shaft and been ripped of. But worse the engine is not performing the way it is advertised and is breaking the law. Both harbor freight and Predator for making them this way.
The camshaft has a compression release on it so you can easily pull start it. Your compression meter will not give you any meaningful reading. If you want to see if you are getting the proper seal, do an actual leak down test. Thanks and have a good day.
Sounds good! I got the dyno, just have to get some custom machine work done so i can actually use it :-/ ill be doing a bunch of videos on this later :-)
So you are saying that a cylinder head that flows 65-75 CFM with a carb that flows 88 CFM is somehow restricted by a dust cover that flows around 500 CFM? Ok.
okay i did a review of your video's im sorry i missed the jet change was drinking a little and spaced that part but still may want to look into a jet kit for that thing still sounds like it need a little bigger one just saying!
Hiciera un vídeo de motor estacionario pero con carburador de moto 150 o 200. Como se adapta y especialmente ese brazo donde por dentro está ese piñón de plástico si se anula o se deja ahi
Awesome video I have a go kart I wanna get fix up and don’t know much about this video helps but I would wanna put something a little bigger and faster any videos on higher stages??
All you need is wrenches and a screwdriver... Proceeds to use ratchet and sockets.... Lol. On a serious note thanks for the video. I am considering doing this to my kart
I wonder how many kids your nephews age that don't know what clockwise or counter clockwise mean? Many of them haven't grown up around round (analog) clocks and have no idea which way a clock turns...LOL I hear the shop teachers complaining your nephew wasn't wearing safety glasses. One note, I have no idea what material the air filter adapter is made out of, aluminum or plastic, you put a drop of Loctite on the choke lever retaining bracket screw, Loctite will attack many plastics, if its aluminum you are fine. Never use Loctite on any plastic, they do make a special product that is plastic safe, good luck finding it...
I got a 212 with 22mm mikuni and 22 pound valve springs with header what is my rpms and top speed on a Baja worrier with torque convert thank u my friend love the videos
I’m trying to get the same answer, I have looked at all of the stage 1 kits from gopowersports.com and ombwarehouse.com. I have come to the conclusion that the jet size in the stage 1 is a .038 jet, I believe the stock jet is a .028. I have a handful of stock jets laying around so I’m going to hand drill my jet to .035 and see how it runs, if I need to drill it more I’ll probably go up one MM at a time all the way to .038 until I find the sweet spot! Hope this helps dude, good luck!
