Today's video is not a workout, it is information. I have collected information over the years of training clients who have had a total knee replacements and I wanted to bring it to you. Everyone is different and will have a different outcome.
First, you must be strong going into this surgery. My previous clients did everything from stationary bike, Pilates reformer, strength training, water aerobics and deep water exercise, electric bike and modified walking.
Some surgeons will offer a pre-hab at PT to get you ready for surgery as well.
Secondly, here are questions you should ask your surgeon before the surgery date:
1. Will a walker be provided? You will also need a higher toilet seat with handles.
2. Will you be staying overnight or go home the same day? Your support at home will need to be ready for you.
3. What pain meds will you be prescribed? And what is the protocol to renew when you run out.?
4. What ROM (range of motion) will I be expected to be at and at what times? 90 degrees? and beyond that?
-What will happen if I am not at the ROM you want me to be?
5. How soon will PT begin?
6. How often do I need to ice my knee?
Here is the recipe for the ice pack :
1 cup of 70% Isopropyl rubbing alcohol
2 cups water
2 gallon freezer bags
