Your videos are amazing, thank you so much. I’m just getting started on bouquet preservation and I appreciate all of your amazing help! Do you recommend a particular heat gun or have any tips for how to use it with the flowers? I’ve tried without heat and there are just soo many bubbles but i know soo many people say not to use a heart gun or touch with flowers, but I’m not sure how they can accomplish these bigger pieces without one. Thank you in advance! 🙏
@EllafulDeco
@EllafulDeco Год назад
Thank you so much for watching my videos! I use a heat gun that I got from Amazon. I'm not sure what resin you're using, but one meant for deeper pours can help with that. For the specific resin that I use, TotalBoat Thickset Fathom resin, I mix the resin and let it rest for several hours (usually about 6) before pouring. In that rest time, I go back every 45 minutes or so and use a heat gun to pop surface bubbles and go around the sides with the heat gun as well to help bring up bubbles to the surface. Then after I pour, I get about 6 hours before the resin gels. I will also go back every 30-40 minutes to quickly wave my heat gun to pop any surface bubbles. If you give this resin a try, your environment may differ and your times may as well.

Beautiful pieces, do you sand the side so you don’t have the progression lines.
@EllafulDeco
@EllafulDeco Год назад
Thank you! Sanding the sides won't get rid of the layer lines because the lines are going to be throughout the entire layer. You can minimize this by timing when you pour your next layer. This depends on your resin so it will take some trial and error.

If you didn’t feel like sanding could you just make it upside down so it’s smooth on the bottom from the mold? Or does it not work that way lol.
@EllafulDeco
@EllafulDeco Год назад
You can do it upside down. I actually did that with the letters here because they require me to. I did the blocks facing up because a lot of the times, because bubbles tend to get trapped in the flowers and you can't see that when you work upside down. If you take a closer look at the E and S, there's a small bubble in the middle of the ranunculus. So you can, but you may end up with some surprises. I've done top coats without sanding, but the sanding opens up any bubbles on the surface that needs to be filled in.

@EllafulDeco
@EllafulDeco 5 месяцев назад
Hello! I’ve been using this brand 4 years and counting. The resin used in this video (TotalBoat’s Thickset Fathom) only came out around 2.5 years ago I think. I see a slight ambering from the side view of my older pieces, but not noticeable from the front view. I do keep my pieces away from direct sunlight.

I've also used Activa, and they both do the job. As for adding color to resin, I've heard of people putting a very small amount of blue to combat the yellowing for clear pieces, but I don't have any experience with that. I don't think it will affect it too much though because you can't add more blue over time as the piece turns yellow.

Jerry, I did a test with 2 different silica gels. (Sorry I don’t have them in front of me). You definitely want to use a gel Like Ella uses. A fine grain “sand type”. The type with large blue crystals in it dimpled my roses. The petals looked like they had been mixed with sand and bbs. Good luck!
@malamas_art
@malamas_art 10 месяцев назад
great job! I tried to do it but the resin stuck to the mold and ruined it. How could I protect the mold from sticking? Is there any primer I could use on top of the mold before I put the mold in, so that it doesn't leave marks? Thanks!
@EllafulDeco
@EllafulDeco 10 месяцев назад
Thank you! Your mold most likely got fused with the resin due to too much heat. Don't use a torch and when you use a heat gun, just lightly wave over the piece to pop bubbles. If you didn't use heat, you may have poured too thick of a layer and your resin got too hot, causing the resin and mold to fuse together.

@EllafulDeco

I used 2 different resins (same brand), both linked in the description. The ratios for them are 3:1 and 2:1. At 3:58, I show the resins I used. I also share a lot of tips and tricks for how I work with these resins in the voice over throughout the video🙂

@rgncyrn Год назад
How long does it take for you to create each layer? Do they have to cure completely first? I also do not have a heat gun so I'm not sure
@EllafulDeco
@EllafulDeco Год назад
I describe how I work with the resin in the video. Each resin is different though so if you're using a different resin, your work times and wait times are going to be different. I heavily rely on the heat gun to assist with bubbles, but this is my process for the specific resin that I use in my work environment. It is definitely a useful tool and I got mine for ~$30 on Amazon, lasting me 3 years and counting, so I would suggest investing in one if you can.

@EllafulDeco

The amount of resin needed varies with each letter. There are some methods of getting an estimated amount of resin needed for a mold that you can search up. I always just mix extra and pour into other molds so I don’t know exactly what the methods are.

I started a mold with my daughters bouquet from her wedding but the flowers are too tall to put the epoxy completely over them then they are a little bit larger than the mold how do I finish it
@EllafulDeco
@EllafulDeco Год назад
Depending on how little, you can sand the top to be completely flat and just do a top coat. The top coating gives it a dome look so (my opinion) the little bit of flower that got sanded down doesn't look incomplete or anything. If the little bit is a lot to you, you can also add tape around the entire block to the height of the flower after you demold it and fill it in with resin. You'll probably want to add support to the sides if you do this.

Why did you use a different epoxy for the first layer and a different one for the next?
@EllafulDeco
@EllafulDeco 4 месяца назад
Because they have different maximum pour depths/cure times. I only needed a thin layer for the first layer to hold down the flowers. The next layers, I used a deep pour resin that would allow me to pour up to 3” deep in one go. I could’ve used the same resin as the first layer throughout, but it would require me to pour several layers. Or if I used the deep pour for the thin layer, it would take longer to gel before I could pour the next layers.
