Presque Isle bay, Thompson bay, and THE LAGOONS at Lake Erie!

First time on the 'main lake' in Thompson bay, let me tell you that little passageway gets kinda WAVY for a 10ft kayak.
Got quite a few good ones today but the bite was a little slow overall. Luckily the lagoons provided some entertainment!
Oh yeah and John got a 6.96lb smallmouth I guess.

There's nothing better than catching big smallies! Presque in the spring is so much fun. My buddy and I've been going up. Five of the last seven weeks. And it is so much fun. Then you never know when you're going to catch 50. Or a bunch of 5 lbers.

Great video Drew with lots of fish catches. That smallmouth your buddy caught was a GIANT. Nearly 7lbs!?! I have been to presque and misery many times but have only ever fished it from a kayak/boat once. What a great fishery. My dad and I were the guys with the Jon boat out on the point at the Que lol

I live in central Ohio and have never been to Presque. I hear April and May is the time to go, any advice? I have a Bass Tracker 165 with just a 9.9 on the back, I hear misery bay stays pretty calm?

Yo! That is absolutely the time to go. You'd be plenty safe in and around Misery Bay with a small boat, since it's pretty shallow. If the wind isn't bad, a bit south of that there are plenty of rock piles scattered around in 10-14ft, find em and keep throwing stuff at them, youll def get smashed!

That beatup white bass is a dying drum. I saw a bunch of em dying all over the place and some belly up my last few trips. I think there is some nasty disease or parasite affecting them. Not sure if the fish commission is aware of it

Was it? I thought it might be a drum but I remember seeing stripes on it. I've yet to catch one.

@Hawk Fishing and Outdoors I caught a few and they were emaciated and gross. Def something up with them this spring. There is some big white bass out there though so it's possible. My buddy caught a 4.4lb white bass there last month

Nice fish! Are you using a Dobyns Fury 7' Medium rod or is that the Medium Heavy? I just bought the 7' Medium which is why I'm asking. A lot of reviews on Tackle Warehouse state the medium is very stiff. I was curious to hear your thoughts on the Fury rod?

Hey Mike, thanks! It is a fury, but it's the 6'6" Medium, I think it's kind of a standard feeling medium spinning rod to be honest. The baitcasting MH fury definitely feels on the softer side to me. I pretty much just use that rod to drop shot, and it's been good overall. I've thrown other things on it like a fluke, and it handles it perfectly. It's pretty good for any general finesse stuff. I'd def recommend giving one a try 👍

@@HawkFishingandOutdoors thanks for the reply! I plan to throw jerkbaits on it, so I was glad when you said it was a standard spinning rod. I have the baitcasting MH one as well and it’s soft for a MH, I agree.
