Of the normals, Mike was the best boy. He didn't add anything weird to the dish, was content with stirring the risotto, and even cleaned the station.

How about a series where Ben cooks then at some point someone switches with him and now he has to instruct them on how to continue his dish while Ben is blindfolded and can only hear what is going on.

This might make a nice challenge, though! Ben tries to make risotto and the others have to try to ruin it :D

Pretty much, but it worked and the other boys added just enough of their own touches to make it really work.

I would have loved to see Jamie ho second and just say "fuck that", hides the risotto stuff and starts them down the path of steak and chips. Just to not give Ben the smugness of winning buy restricting them to just stiring his dish while he takes a nice sit down

I guess "too many chefs" is a saying for a reason

It's not that they couldn't do anything else, Barry managed to start cooking some eggplant, it's that what was needed to do to preserve Ben's effort narrowed their focus. They couldn't spend more than a few minutes, total, away from the rice and so there was no way for their ambition to exceed their skills.

That is not quite the spirit of the format is it though? Basically the normals could be replaced with a jump cut saying "keep stirring for thirty minutes" here.

I expected Jamie to whack a slab of steak in there... which would jave worked too.

That would be a lot of fun! One does protein, one does carbs, one does a sauce, and two salads/sides. Combine them and see what happens

@@Anon-21j it would be even more fun if you didn't give them assignments, nobody knows what the others made so you could end up with 5 mains or 3 desserts a salad and a coffee

Oh, this would be great! Maybe they all get 20 mins and a randomly generated ingredient and utensil they have to use. Like egg slicer and whipped cream. They don't find out til it's their turn to cook.

The constantly failing in every pass it on annoys me. I don't get why they keep doing them. They haven't done a proper battle episode in ages.

@@cheekiestgore1634 What annoys me is the normals are around two talented chefs but they don't seem to retain anything when it's game time. It's like the "sponge" fails at critical times. It makes me think they should have graduated past "needing a recipe in front of them" by now. What they said at the end and the scores they gave themselves really is quite illuminating to how they think they did. Ben didn't deserve the hate. He gave them a structure that they could be creative, and only Barry really did something with it. These videos would be so much better if we, the viewers, could see actual progression in the normals. I get why they keep doing them, but I would also like to see proper battles, too.

Agreed. I actually enjoy watching them fail. This one was just boring because the ones in between didn't even try to do anything. It may have been a good plate of food, but it really was just Ben cooking a dish. Still enjoyable, just not as amusing as a normal pass it on.

I like the latter one. Reminds me of the idealization of washoku where you need to incorporate a minimum of 31 individual ingredients to create a well balanced meal.

I love the 10 ingredient idea. Either minimum 10 each or exactly 10 each. It limits what the first person can do and annoys everyone else
