My mom is doing this to my dad right now. She already gave his house away to her son. My dad is in a nursing home but that's his home. Her name isn't on anything there. She uses his Social security money to make that son's life easybought a new stove, bug man, window units.she is not good with money management at all.she isn't the smartest person either. Ive been ignored because she is good friends with the sheriff's wife. I can't afford an attorney because I have breast cancer and a disabling neurological disorder. What am I doing wrong? I've reported this to the nursing home, county sheriff, DHS, I'm not interested in gaining my dad's affairs Im trying to save what is his from two low life's. Yes I know that's my mom but I don't claim her son as my family he is a child rapist. My mom isn't a good or nice person.period.

This is a great video with very informative information. I work for a sheriff's office in Florida and am currently working with an elderly couple who are not married but have been together for 18 years. te female added the male onto her account as Power of Attorney 4 years ago. Her daughter recently took in a forged POA and the bank added her onto the count also. The same day, she wiped out her savings. Although the amount she took overall is not extremely large, ($6,500), this has devastated the couple. This is all she had and now has to fully rely on her social security. I think if the bank would have at least called the POA already on the account to let him know, it could have avoided the entire thing. Just another sad situation with the hundreds of thousands that are out there!

Existing laws and privacy act's make it nearly impossible to know if financial exploitation is happening when the targeted person is still alive. And to add further complication, most government agencies declare that nothing can be done after the exploited person is deceased. The reality is that most financial exploitation crimes go undetected because the survivors don’t know it happened until their loved one is deceased. For example, in many instances, a Will that is submitted to a county registrar for deed transference is the first time a malfeasance would come to light. From all the research done it was discovered that much of the exploitation was done in the last three years when the elderly was identified as being under stress, confused, easily influenced under duress, lonely, wanting attention, needing help, possibly disabled and can be influenced to make changes suggested by others. So, it needs to be the local Sheriffs office with the help of State prosecutors to get the perpetrator. Not lawyers. These are criminal state laws that are broken with out the teeth to back them up. I.E. 1) Subpoena the last 4 years of bank records, 2) Subpoena the law firm that changed the documents. The law firm had to help the perpetrator. So the attorney client privilege can not apply to the elderly and the POA. This is a major problem within the legal system.
