Excerpts The best things to do to avoid high oxalate are: 1. Take calcium - Calcium locks up oxalates in the intestines, preventing them from traveling to your kidneys. It's ideal to have 250mg of calcium lactate before bed. 2. Take citrates - Citrates bind with oxalates, preventing calcium from binding with oxalates. Try lemon juice or potassium citrate. 3. Drink 2.5 liters of fluid per day. This helps lower the concentration of calcium in the kidneys. 4. Reduce foods high in oxalates. High-oxalate foods include • Spinach • Black tea • Almonds • Chocolate • Soda/cola • Soybeans • Sweet potatoes • Tofu Thank you Dr Berg!!

I am a little confused about item 1 and 2. Should calcium bind with oxalates for the latter to leave the body or should we prevent the binding by consuming citrates?

@@petrichor100 you consume calcium lactate before bedtime, to lock up any oxalates in the intestines so it will never reach the kidneys. Or if you already have calcium oxalate precipitates/stones in your kidneys, you drink lemon juice or Potassium citrate solution to alkalize your kidneys so that the calcium oxalate stones will dissolve and react to form calcium citrate which is water-soluble and gets excreted out.

My left kidney hurts occassionally, i had kidney stone surgically removed and i wonder if that caused any damage but i was a teen when it happened and cant remember which kidney it was. Coke or pepsi will make my left kidney throb infact its throbbing now and thats why im here, i did drink some coke a few days back. Anyways i was just curious if you found any remedies for your pcos or sinus issues since i too suffer them as well.

I am very prone. Medullary Sponge Kidneys. Both kidneys. I use B vitamins, try to fix a possible leaky gut, try my hardest NOT to take antibiotics, drink potassium citrate, drink apple coder vinegar and lemon, fermented foods, and combine cLcium with my food, especially when I have moderate to high oxalate food. I watch oxalates like a hawk, but eat pistachios and macadamia nuts. This is a very hard diet follow for kidney stones when you’re trying to not have a leaky gut and not have other problems like diabetes. So many vegetables are high in oxalates. I also take salmon oil - the good stuff , cod liver oil - the good stuff, zinc, and magnesium threonate - at various times if the day. Plus, nutritionL yeast and sometimes cold pressed flax seed oil. Some of these items also help the situation whether it’s to destroy the oxalate in the gut, or bind with oxalates. Maybe on your next video you can check some of these out, Dr. Berg.

Hey, I made a comment about my oxalates being too high and being prone to Kidney stones a little while ago. Thanks for the video! Since my last doctor's appointment, where they told me I had elevated levels of oxalates in my UA test, I have been drinking more water and I actually add lemon juice to a cup of water every once in a while to help. I don't really consume any of those high oxalate foods you mentioned in the video, but I will look into getting some Calcium Lactate next time I go to the pharmacy. I also found an article showing that fresh pomegranate juice contains 533 milligrams of potassium in a 1 cup serving and a cup of orange juice contains 496 milligrams of potassium. Although, I would still be careful with those because they are high in sugar.
@healthyketoexperiment7964

Yes, their sugar content, especially in the orange juice has its own bad effects. Avocados are much richer in potassium and provide other key nutrients. Also Dr Berg has an amazing electrolytes formula that gives 1000mg of potassium per scoop and a good amount of calcium lactate too.

There is some woman who's whole mission is to limit oxalates, I forget her name, she's on several of these YT interviews. Orange has a lot of oxalates, too. She said it can take years to eliminate stored oxalates from the body so maybe that's why your urine oxalate level is still high. She said they are stored in the muscles and bones. And just a week ago I started to have back pain and with time in the ureter. I thought to quit the diet, but when it occurred to me, that this is probably not because I made more stones, but because I started to drink a lot of water( i actually drunk not enough before keto), and the stone was small so it left (stuck once in ureter but the pain wasn't severe) I also found ayurvedic varuna that I saw on your channel and use it too. Great video. However you didn't mention one of the most common reasons that people have a problem excreting oxalates. In our healthy gut biome we all have colonies of bacteria that naturally feed on oxalates, known as oxalobacter bacteria. There are several species. But when we take antibiotics, these are killed off and never regenerate. Then we are stuck with the oxalates we eat and they cause huge problems.

@wendydee3007 2 года назад
@@whitevoodooman7276 Research is in progress. But the main problem is that it is very difficult to keep oxalobacters alive outside of the body. For years I thought I was eating a very healthy vegetarian diet without realising I had no oxalobacters in my gut biome. I ended up very poorly in hospital and now my diet is extremely restricted. I would consume any supplement that contained oxalobacters, if it existed. I know some people undergo faecal transplants to have a better gut biome, but you would have to know for sure that the transplanted material came from a person who had a normal level of oxalobacters.

Some of the problems with creating a viable supplement are: oxalobacters are anaerobes, making them unsuitable for putting in capsule or tablet form; they do not survive the acidity of the stomach, or the bile salts from the small intestine. Most probiotics are sold as dietary supplements; this means that the companies that make them don't have to test their products and show that they work or that they are safe.

Had many bouts of kidney stones , started when I was taking calcium. Then came on, now and then till I started taking 6 tbs of lemon juice thru out the day, (mixed with daily drinks) No more kidney stones in over 20 years.

I usually am able to get to 240 easy enuff but not recently is why I started to watch all the help shows yours being one of them being a desperate vegetarian I started to watch the carnivore diet since it mimics the keto diet I have been able to stay closer to a keto diet past week and teetering 249 yet still I know its more important for me to follow the rules bot care so much about weight loss right away cuz water has weight so yes I drink more fluids and I take more enemas against with is water im not so much worried about water retention cuz I'm detoxing with enmas and drinking a lot of water strange thing I do is drink a beer now and then for b12 it helps me feel better to exclude lack of b12 headache my next gig step is to go from turkey bacon which I noticed was already pre cooked and tasted batter cold to real bacon which is by no means pre cooked and I know once I open it I can't have it in the fridge for more than 5 days opened before it gos bad but I sure there will be a lot of bacon grease to I guess flash down the toilet my question is they said in the carnivore diet to drink the grease that coms off an air fried steak well im not planning to air fry any steak or eat ateaka im not sure but if some one was to eat a steak not me I would never drink the juices isn't that rendered fat grease why would they them not me do this why do they think it helps them ? I haven't eaten steaks since I was 17 and im in my 50s now so I'm not gonna but in general I would imagine thats not healthier but wennpeole make turkey they use the turkey greasy to make graveyard is this tuekey grease gravy bad for yoj is it bad ldl I don't use punctuation cuz it looks like annoying dots wen I type ignore my lack of punctuation 😅

You forgot the star-fruit and the cranberry, high in oxalates. I knew a 25 yo (apparently healthy) man who died after drinking few glasses of star-fruit juice when in vacation in a hot city. The topic is so serious that in some cities there is a law demanding the restaurants expose a huge poster advising about the risks of the (oxalate in) star-fruit.

@@beingsshepherd Wow. Thanks for sharing. I didn't know. I love tahini but "fortunately" it is very expensive and I rarely eat it. Oxalates are very dangerous for people with mild and even undiagnosed kidney damage.

@@reginafarias I must stress that the oxalate's reputedly in the sesame (outer) hulls. Fortunately most tahini seems to be shelled.

Question: So do you want the calcium to bind with the oxalates to prevent stones, or not? Steps 1 and 2 were a bit confusing?

Oh my God!!! Thank you Dr Berg!! I have an indwelling catheter because i have a high spinal cord injury. For the past year ive been suffering oxalate (i think) production which is building struvite and urea crystals...my urologist dont care about the cause...but you are explaining in this video potential causes!! I will implement these recommendations with good faith. Also, im wondering if it has anything to do with not standing for a bit more than a year...im paralyzed so i need a big ol standing frame..but im curious if you think the oxalates are a product of bone decay?? Also, please do go in more detail about intestinal malfunction and oxalates. I have been doing a bunch of herbs with no results so far...feeling meh, but you give me hope. Thank you Dr. Berg!

Remember to wean off high oxalate food gradually or your body will dump huge amounts of oxalates at once. Very painful and will make you quite ill
