I put in an order from Kelly's shop. Picked up some short and fine in bleached and the tip length did not work for anything above a size 14. 14 was fine but anything smaller it didn't flare for me. The tips were too long and weren't hollow enough to get a good flare with, but the x caddis stuff was great.
It has been an insane process trying to get all of my grades to fit properly for every application. I'm still refining it two years later, but I think you'll find it much better this coming year. Sorry it was frustrating on the 14 and lower sizes...
Finding good hair for compar duns and sparkle duns is very difficult for me. I tie in the #14 to 20 range, smaller I go with CDC or Snow shoe Rabbit foot when I can find it. I will be buying some that for sure.
Hey Josh this is an awesome undertaking you've decided to embark on. What is the timeline for these to be available to buy? I don't want to miss out. Also it would be really cool for you to show a hide and show where the different types of hair come from. Are these strictly early season bucks or do does also have good hair? And in Montana I'm assuming these are mostly mule deer? The reason I ask is my friend is a taxidermist and my Dad is a hunting guide here in Wyoming so I could possibly get a nice strip along the spine. Of course my quality would probably be low, but getting some usable amount of fine hair from what would normally be trash would be cool.
Thanks Garrett, I'm not 100% certain on the timeline just yet but I should have it down to the shop by the first week of August. The short does come mainly from your early season deer and these are whitetail. I'm not too crazy about working with mules. I do plan on doing more detailed videos once I get the new shop set up. I'll try to highlight some of your questions in a video to follow.
@@varnersstreamers @Josh Varner Awesome thank you Josh. I'll definitely be keeping my eyes out. Nature's Spirit comparadun hair has been really tough to get and it looks like you have an excellent product.
