great video!!! This Software has been so helpful on my channel alone! Love how this is getting easier and more accessible for people to jump in and have some fun with animation!!!
I have been learning Character Animation for about 2 months now. I’m getting really good at making a puppet out of a photo. A cool ‘trick’ I’ve learned is to use the mouth from Dr Applebaum, and change the skin tone on the mouth visemes to match the face.
great job and agree with another persons post that it's a smart move for adobe. That allows levels of learning and as people learn they can expand into the more complicated levels. Keep up the great work.
Hey Dave! Making a free mode is such a smart move from the Character Animator team! Considering how long it can be to make a puppet vs how easy it is to share it, I think splitting the software in two parts is the best idea possible. (Especially since the pro mode is available on the complete CC plan) The only thing that is missing from what I currently see is Mercury Transmit. As you probably know, Vtubing (Content creation with a virtual character) is getting more and more mainstream on RU-vid and Twitch, and it would make Adobe CH an amazing contender to the other options available at the moment.
Nicely done. Its like what iMovie is to Final Cut Pro. Really a good introduction to animation. I do like that drag and and drop feature for triggers. That is really useful honestly i think that should be added to pro mode. Speaking of which Im also really looking forward to what is added next in pro mode. Hoping for something regarding hands and finger movements as well as more features for front views. Keep up the good work guys.
This is fantastic. Can you edit the puppets after you've picked one in photoshop or are you locked to the starter ones? Also using the NDI video do you still have the option of streaming this to twitch and the like?
Thanks! You can click the "Import Puppet" button on Starter mode's home screen to import any CH puppet. So rigging is not part of Starter, but anything made in Pro mode can be brought over (although note the current example ones all have triggered swap set, which seems to work best for the simplified timeline). Currently streaming is not hooked up to the Starter mode beta, but it's not ruled out for future plans.
It would be a dream and a huge help if you added the streaming option😄. So that way people can make and easily sell character animator avatars to twitch streamers. Right now most vtubers use live2d to do avatar commissions because the client(streamer) doesn’t need to pay for the monthly live2d software subscription to use their avatar after it’s been rigged
I couldn't find your video on how to trim data from the timeline, but I found the steps from the TutorTube channel. He has around 100 short videos on character animator. Just wanted to let you know.
I just uploaded a short scene from Resident Alien. I spent a lot of time building this animation, but it worked! Also, I used Camera 1 to zoom in using a trigger and changed the faces on the Alien using triggers. As before, I had to turn lip sync on and off as I performed the 2 characters.
Amazing!! Thank you so much for this :) Also want to add my voice to the people who are requesting a basic streamer mode. It would be so COOL to be able to open up making puppets for people in something other than Live2D.
Currently it should be working with all types of puppets, although we recommend having puppets with one main trigger swap set to work best in the more limited timeline.
Fantastic. Have played with another Animation tool by a different company off and on but always found the learning curve to be quite high. This adobe tool looks so much easier and intuitive. Best of all its part of the Creative Cloud subscription. Is there a version of this planned for the iPad & iPhone?
Ready made poses just click away to perform an action this is awesome . Another topic I wonder if there's away we can take our puppets to puppets maker and perform changes on it is that possible ???
Currently Puppet Maker is only part of the Pro mode and requires a special separate authoring process we're still working on making public later this year. More info coming soon!
Hello! Are you able to change your canvas size? For example I am making a cartoon in HD 1920x1080 however I would like to animate the characters in 4k so when zooming in after effects I won't loose any clarity.
soooo.....not all the backgounds seem to be made for starter mode. when switching for example to portrait - the puppet "floats" as he is not 'grounded'....in one room scene he is floating above the floor. on several backgrounds same thing. so - how the heck do we move the puppet's on-screen position (up. down. left. right.) since there is no obvious control or tool to grab the whole puppet? i tried searching everywhere for an answer to this problem - with zero luck. hope you answer.
Good catch, thanks for noticing this - this is an issue we're currently working on fixing. Right now we don't do anything to the puppet as we change to different formats, which results in some terrible looking aspect ratio variations depending on the puppet. We are working on a fix to this and it should be out in the next couple of weeks.
Wow, I’ve been screaming for this for so long. I make these for work and have for a couple years now. I hope it works through NDI for zoom/OBS etc, otherwise what’s the point? Any user that needs this simplicity isn’t going to be constructing their video from scratch they want to use it live to talk to people. My CH use really picked up with the pandemic but after months of work and lots of $ I have to tell my clients: “well it’s all just for this video… no I can’t give it to you to just play with unless you want to subscribe to Adobe and learn this scary interface.” It’s been very frustrating. Anyway, can’t wait to try it.
Yes! That's exactly why we're making this - to basically make a free puppet player for that type of audience. Right now it doesn't have NDI/streaming built in, but we're hearing that as a common request.
Dave, Thank you for this excellent tutorial. I have made myself some high-quality assets that are saved as .gif These assets include cars on move, raining clouds e.tc I tried to import them in character animator yet, this file type is not compatible. And I was wondering...is there a workaround to import gifs or other image sequences in Character Animator, that could give more vividness and movement to our project?
Yes, GIFs are not currently supported. Ideally you could convert it to a PNG sequence, which we do allow for and use quite a lot for things like cycle layers. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WzYJbZYhxmk.html
There’s a body tracking tutorial video on this channel that goes through exactly this. Check ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gWBLAcTWH5Q.html
Yes, Leonard is in the app in Starter mode. If you open him up in Pro mode you'll see his full rigging, and can either File > Export > Puppet to get a puppet file of him, or click the PS icon in the project panel to open up his original Photoshop file.
The volume of my mic itself is so low that when the character speaks, the shape of his mouth is not free-flowing. Is there a way to set the microphone volume within the program?
Unfortunately Character Animator is only a desktop app currently. But you can draw characters on an iPad Pro (that's what I do: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eOUkhY7vhc4.html)
@@okaysamurai what a shame spend a fortune on apple tech with the same M1 chip inside and it cant even use a mouse for first person shooters , guess i made the wrong choice
Controls panel! Tabbed with triggers panel. You can drag any layer on top of a button in Rig mode to add artwork to it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1iS0gUoe1i8.html
@@okaysamurai Thanks for answering. I'm struggling with making my puppet move after I download the voice. It records the mouth movements but I can't add in blinking, pointing or my head movements. Can you make a video about that? Thanks.
Really love the free version of this program but i can't believe it costs $600/yr and has to be bundled with the entire adobe cc suite. Anyone know alternatives?
Glad you're enjoying the Starter version! We also have a limited web version: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_A3g3QmZLVM.html. Our professional users already subscribe to CC for many of the products CH works directly with, like PS, AI, AE, PR, etc - but I agree, I wish there was a standalone way to get the full Pro experience.
@@okaysamurai And the option should definitely remain only available in the Pro mode. I mean, for respecting those who do pay money for the complete bundle.
Seems to work for me (22.4 v14) on a 2021 Macbook. Our system requirements are here: helpx.adobe.com/adobe-character-animator/system-requirements.html.
I really enjoy your videos. Thank you for being helpful and informative. I have begun making my own animations using #characteranimator in conjunction with an array of other Adobe products. I would love if you would check them out! Take care!
*Adding new and new features to those who use the FREE Version* (such as creating their own characters, rigging, behaviors, etc.) * I do not think it is entirely fair for those who pay* . Of course, I understand the division of the application for increasing the adoption rate, for the new ones in this world, but at the moment *what you offer in the FREE version is more than enough* . I consider that the difference between the FREE and PRO is not so big now, and the addition of even more features in the future for the FREE Version will decrease the difference between those two. *I think that Character Animator is a top application and the free version should remain a sample* . Since considerable things can be done in the FREE Version now, I'm wondering about the updates for the PRO Version. It just would not be nice for those who do pay for the complete Adobe Bundle to realize that many things are available for free now... I am a little bit disappointed as a PRO User. Maybe I'm wrong. I hope that creating characters, rigging them and adding behaviors, triggers will remain the options only for PRO users and maybe some new updates for those who do pay significant money annually will be announced soon. Of course that this is a logical step from a business point of view, but I think it should stop here. We are waiting for new updates for the PRO Version. I hope you can take my opinion into consideration.
We hear you! Yes, Starter mode is a significantly more limited version streamlined for quick and easy short recordings. It's currently limited to one character, one take, no rigging, limited backgrounds, no Puppet Maker, no additional features like walking / body tracking / etc, and the list goes on. Rigging your own characters will never be a part of Starter mode - that's not what it's about. If you try Starter mode, I think you'll see the limits quickly!
@ that's a bit selfish. It's not just about the price... Some of us find it hard learning the PRO, but with Starter mode we can grasp more things easily and then move to the PRO version
