Oh, I have no idea. I started with them in 2005. I would imagine it just wasn't popular. Maybe when prices went over 4 digits they didn't think it was worth redesigning the game, who knows.
@@lb5977 They retired this game, largely, for 2 primary reasons. #1...it was far too hard to actually win from the very beginning..and when they finally retired it (I think in the late 80's), the final nail in the coffin was inflation...which caused an already difficult game to win to be even harder to win.
Unfortunately, because the display malfunctioned and finally the producers, by the spring of 1986, decided enough was enough and retired the game by the end of season 14, not to mention also the game had one of the lower win percentages (meaning contestants winning all four prizes offered).
The Walk Of Fame Game not only reminds me of my trip to Los Angeles, but the time my father hopes that I become as rich as an executive producer, and my Mom wishing I was as rich as a Studio Executive!😎📺🎥 I wish!!
Not to mention that Holly is back (actually she returned on March 30, 1984 - the previous week), back then usually there'd be 2 shows each from Monday-Wednesday, 6 shows each taping week (with this I think being the last of the 6 taped).
@@TheGoldenArcher Yeah I think they should retire Rat Race, it was: 1. Luck depend 2. A race between the rabbit, which its a bit similar to Finish Line(Horse race) This could be a gamble game
Wish this game would've lasted longer....The gameplay, pricing strategy, and the autograph books made Walk of Fame a fun game...Way better than Pick a Number, Joker, or Squeeze Play...And the autograph books were a souvenir to keep for anyone who played regardless of outcome...
It's possible, D Heine; however, the only real difference between the two games is that in Walk of Fame (played from 1983 until 1986), the contestant played for one two-digit priced prize, one three-digit priced prize, and two four-digit priced prizes, but, to the best of my knowledge, the game was never played for an automobile. Also, in this game, the contestant only had a certain range to which they could be high or low on the price of a prize (usually $25-$50 for the first, $250 for the second, $500 for the third, and $1,000 for the fourth and final prize). If the contestant missed the range of a prize they are playing for, that prize is gone and the contestant did not get another chance to win it; however, they would be given a second chance to win the next available prize if they got a page in an autograph book that said "Second Chance". If they failed to obtain this second chance with the book they chose, the game was over, but the autograph book, plus any prize(s) the contestant had already won were his/hers to keep. The only exception to this rule is if the contestant missed the final prize, in which case no second chance would be awarded and in this case, the game was automatically over. As for More or Less (which has been played somewhat frequently since its 2006 debut), the contestant is first shown three prizes that he/she might normally use around their house (appliances, electronics, exercise equipment, so forth) followed at the very end by an automobile. In this game, the contestant is shown an incorrect price for each prize and then he or she has to guess whether the correct price is more or less (hence the name of the game) than the price shown. If the contestant guesses correctly, he/she moves on the next prize and continues on until they win all four prizes (including the automobile) or makes a mistake along the way, in which case the game ends, but any prizes won along the way are his/hers to keep.
Unfortunately, Tubewings, the reason why Walk of Fame was retired is because the game displays often failed to function properly, and by the spring of 1986, the producers, as well as Bob, had finally had enough and retired the game altogether.
With all due respect, why? The Walk of Fame isn't a "thing" anymore first of all. And second, all this game consists of is guess a price within a range...what makes it worth "bringing it back"?
Victoria did very well with Walk of Fame! Wish TPIR still played it today, I wonder how Drew Carey would do if they played Walk of Fame as of 2015, what do you all think? I played it on my The Price is Right Decades wii game and I did well playing it!
+James Zenor I don't know if Drew could describe the game without bungling it all up; plus, I don't know how they'd be able to keep the display from malfunctioning, dooming the game like they did the first time it was in the rotation (1983-86). This contestant was the most successful as far as how close she came on all four prizes, missing all four by a combined $163.
Would you happen to have any master tapes of Season 7 (1978-1979)? The very rare Telephone Game and Shower Game ran that season and Game Show Network hardly ran episodes from that season.
It would have been nice if they had a car in this retired pricing game!! I don.t think they ever had a car in the Walk Of Fame game if my memory serves me correct.
I think the scuba gear is one of the weirdest prizes I've ever seen on this game show and I've been watching it since I was a kid back in the 80s with my grandmother but I've never seen a prize where you need to take a class just to use the silly thing and before anybody gets irritated I still think it's cool I mean I'm a shipwreck junkie as in my history there's videos of the wreck of HMHS Britannic. But again never seen scuba gear on a game show ever
Y'know, I've been a watcher for a long time, but I could NEVER wrap my young (at the time) noggin' around why they did the pull-out methodology of shrinking the logo at that "Second half" part of the show...
They probably intended for the logo to disappear completely when pulled back, but since that didn't exactly work, they could have faded to commercial before they stopped pulling the camera back. I figured that out when they replaced that art card with a computer graphic in the early 2000s -- it shrank and disappeared completely, as intended.
Put this on the list of "Pricing Games they should have never retired". I mean, was there honestly THAT much inflation in the two years Walk of Fame was in the PG rotation?
when did walk of fame debut?? until now i thought first appeared along with on the nose and balance game at the start of season 13...however the production slate read a recorded date of 3.7.84...meaning this would've aired in late season 12...
