This made me feel uncomfortable. Normal cockroaches are bad enough! Don't need any with sharp teeth and spiky back that works like armour.

That's what I love about this work. Just like the Samurai Jack three blind archers episode I saw back in 2001, you can get so much information just by visuals and no dialogue.

I like how when he slaps the bugs off of fang, her body jiggles like real flesh. Some great attention to detail from the animators.

I interpret the look at 1:16 as Fang realizing even more how much Spear cares for her. Yes, he patched her up and brought her here, which were both big, meaningful actions. But now he's also going so far out of his way to stop her from even being bothered by something as small as bug bites while she heals. (And the fact he's so furiously offended at the bugs for possibly considering her to be a corpse to eat.) That isn't just tit-for-tat thanks for all the times she's helped him or saved him, that's true frienship and care. It's not something that can be easily dismissed as Spear just being pragmatic and not wanting a valuable resource/ally to die.

Spear flipping them upside down to stab their weak spot reminded me of certain video games.

He even used the bug armor as a weapon that applies on your fists because the bug exoskeleton has spikes which in the infestation had hurt Spear's hand so he thought to use them
