I may be wrong but I don't think there is a set in stone type studio version of this song other than the movie soundtrack but that even has the live stage sound.....If there isn't a studio version that to me is just another brilliant move by Prince!
Yes, there isn't a standard studio version and the "official" version is a live recording, although with edits and overdubs - somebody took the pleasure of annotating it for us here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-frbVVDAyJ1w.html. Then there are rehearsals, the most beautiful of which may be the Take #3 here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZgXAVE-UU5U.html.
To see my former friend, John Blackwell, behind the drums…fulfilling his lifelong goal of being a world touring drummer with a A1 band… it breaks my heart…to know that John AND prince are no longer with us… when I was at school ( Berklee school of music, Boston, Massachusetts)) I used to sit directly next to John…he was on scholarship from Columbia, sc…to see him fulfill his musical dreams with prince is why I’ll play music til the day that I die…may John and prince rest in peace . I hope that his daughter Jia , is getting all the love and support that she needs and deserves…unbelievable purple rain rendition. Peace.
The epitome of excellence. The only song that brings back my youth and can drop me to my knees and know that we have just witnessed the greatest song of all time. RIP prince you have done God's work here on esrth
You are a lucky man to met John personally. He was one of the best drummers I ever heared in my live. We are all lucky to join the best musicians in centuries. Prince is one of them too!
A beautiful moment 12mins 40 secs, how genuinely happy he was in that moment … just priceless. Over 7 years later and it still hurts so much - and I think it always will.
Mortality is inevitable. Weve had great legends pass on and we just accept and cherish the sweet and ever lasting memories- play their songs whenever we feel like which puts a smile on our faces and enjoy the moment. BUT PRINCE is the only one I wish were still alive. Cant explain in words the feeling. Miss this legend so much.😢❤
The same for us. Two days ago I had a dream in wich Prince was at my house, playing with us and beeing cheerful, treating us as friends. I can't describe with words the feeling of total disappointment and sadness I got when I woke up.
This was 2011, who knew we would only have him 5 more years. This coming Wednesday would have been his 65th birthday. Happy Birthday Your Royal Badness❤
❤❤❤ I would love to see PRINCE teaching others especially children all about music 🎶 instruments and the business of real music 🎶 And of course about life and living with focused minds👏🏽 Dr. PRINCE RODGERS NELSON 👏🏽🕊️🕊️💜 PROFESSOR OF MUSIC 🎶💜
I saw Prince sing this song at the Super Bowl. In his Blue outfit he performed as it rained. He nor his dancers never skipped a beat. It was as if the skies opened & rained as a part of the show W Incredible!!! RIP Prince 💔 13:22
Just to see a man express his life’s pain and turn it in to the mist inspirational song to touch millions of people says you have achieved your goal to all who know prince he achieved his goal god bless you man
Mr John Blackwell on the drums 💜. He passed away about a year after Prince from a brain tumour. This video shows a few nice close-up action shots of him. Rest in peace to both greats who contributed so much to music.
Really? I only just found this guy, and I am 38 - never heard of him all through my life (I am Australian), and his voice isn't really interesting, the music is pretty simple..... I do not see why he is so popular? Heaps of better singers
@sonicsabbath You are so wrong. Prince is regarded as one of the greatest artists ever. He wrote, produced, composed and played all instruments on the vast majority of his huge catalog. Do a deep dive. Educate yourself on Prince. Some great songs to start with are, Joy in repetition, Adore, I could never take the place of your man. And many more. Peace
@@kevineden4028 Had a listen to some of his other stuff, and that is much better than this. But certainly not the best music I have ever heard - in my own opinion. Also, many musicians can play a plethora of instruments, that is nothing unique. Bill Bailey would be the best musician ever if you are going to use that as the measuring stick. For actual music, I would put Jimi Hendrix above Prince easily.
@@TheBearBiffo Oh yes, that version is mind-blowing, It was March 30th 85 I'm a bit of an insomniac so every night I listen to this version all 20 minutes of it and that solo, nothing comes close
He have the power to make all the people in the stadium high as a kite just with his guitar 🎸 very powerful energy , you will be amazed how far music can control you .
Best Guitar Player in History. Once you hear HIM live you'll never forguet and need to come back to his guitar play , just forever . Healing force. Genius.
I can think of ten guitar players in two seconds who were better. Most massively overhyped guitarist ever. He was good, but the way his fans go on is ridiculous.
@@sillysausage4549 It's funny that every time u all try to argue that Prince isn't a genius as a guitarist, instead of facts, you always rely on the Fan concept. It makes me laugh. And always, coincidentally, these comments tend to come from frustrated guitar players.
I dont know how, but Prince plays always the right notes to fit the music. No tricks and licks to show off. But if it fits the music, i could play it all. Styles like funk, jazz, blues and dirty rock. So much talent
I saw him on this tour. Hands down the best concert I’ve ever been too. As a professional guitarist Prince was one of my biggest influences. Seeing him play live was a dream come true.
@@miguelruiz8183 I wish he got more credit for how great of a player he was. Even some great players I know didn’t realize how unbelievable he was on guitar.
35 years and counting I am a total worshipper of this man and his gift and I am stunned at this performance. There will never be another like him.Never!!
@mrkp7400, I also loved Prince and still cry about his so called death, but an adult that admits to worshipping a man is really weird. He didn't want to be worshipped and stated many times in interviews. The Industry is evil and demonic. So you worshipped Satan?🤔🤔🤔🤔
@@missy652and the foundations are based off Prince’s admiration for the guitar work of Neal Schon of Journey. After you listen to this, listen to “faithfully”.
What a beautiful brilliant master of his art that is only given from the hands of the lord he was put hear for a beautiful reason just as the lord was I will miss the Master of music 😢😢😢😢
We lost so many Legends to pharmaceutical drug addiction! I remember seeing him perform rock N roll hall of fame I was sooooooooo pissed I didnt know he could play like that and started to pay attention to him as a musician and glad i did. Real Artist, real Legend!
I would give a kidney to see two songs performed live: Purple Rain Comfortably Numb Every single live performance of these 2 songs is a unique journey. Different details, buildup, guitar solo etc. Amazing. Brilliant rendition by the way. One of the best here on RU-vid.
Well... I mean... you know... just WOW. Every time I think I've heard all of the versions of this song and have my favorite one, another version comes along that just blows me away. R.I.P. to Prince & R.I.P. to his drummer John Blackwell.
One regret I have is never seeing Prince live in concert. For all you youngsters out there, if you love something or someone, do whatever it takes to keep her. As you get older you will regret it for the rest of your life. ❤
This is the closest example of the spiritual experience seeing Prince live on a Great night with a great crowd !! Experienced it at the Rio Las Vegas for Free. Having walked in through the out door lol Great Show. If you've experienced what I'm talking about you know. If not I'm truly sorry for your loss.
Wow, my goodness absolutely incredible footage. The big smile near the end there… Prince so knew they had delivered with distinction on what is perhaps his most epic song!
