Thanks for showing us around Greg , Ive only been to Stockport once killing an hour before we got a connecting train to Wigan. We went in a pub across from the station and came across a bloke who said he had come up on the pools and was buying everyone cocktails! We said we didn't drink cocktails but he wouldn't take no for an answer.... surreal experience 🍹
What a wonderful story, memories eh. That’s why I love doing stuff like this because it brings so many memories back to people and I get to hear some wonderful stories.
before it was a shoe shop, it was 'toy & hobby'. remember it well - practically lived in the computer games section! (buying £1.99 games for my zx speccy) 😁
@@Stockybloke absolutely! and over the road was 'animal magic' which was a pet shop. next door to that, was Dawsons (music shop). and where Glitch is, that was always a bed shop.... Princes St used to be awesome back in the day - where Bet Fred is, that was Tandy. There was also one of those 'you can't buy it anywhere else in town but here' shops called 'studio 7' where you could buy all manner of weird object d'art and weird stuff. Holland & Barratt used to be where shitehouse was.
@@Stockybloke good to know because I hate my memory for remembering all the weird stuff!!! speaking of which - there was a dedicated sony shop on Princes St too. when i first got my first ever flat, I shopped for all my decorating gear in Fads - that was way back in '91!!
@@LorraineJones-yp2dt thanks Lorraine hopefully all three of us I’m random I’m gonna get together on a pub crawl and all subscribers are welcome if you’re up for it?
When the video starts you are stood in front of what was Burtons the Tailors in the 60's and 70's. I bought my first suit there (17 pound 50p) and paid it off so much a week, 50p I think. Near where the William Hill betting shop was used to be a UCP shop for sandwiches and meats etc. British Home Stores (or Marks and Sparks) was close to the Swan with two necks but on the other side of the road. Stolen from Ivor was near the Admiral store you mentioned.
The pub on the corner, the Touchstone was a right boozer,a one legged man vused it every night and about 10 after half a dozen pints you had to be ready t o duck as he'd start swinging his crutch about! Dead classy!
I used to go in the UCP for a pork sandwich with my mum on a Saturday in the 60's. I also went in the Toggery but don't think I ever bought anything in there. I was only taking home 4 quid a week in 68 and my mum got 2 quid out of that for keep.
