Tuesday.... Oh, how I love thee! Dr. B. Taylor is up and running. 😍👌. I was thinking about my dear mom and her sisters, way back in the 60's, discussing "the change" and it all sounded so daunting to a 14 year old girl. I would have loved for them to have had someone as passionate as you to guide them on their journey. I thank you Dr. T....you are indeed helping me! Xoxo

Hi Doctor Taylor, I am a long time viewer of your channel and want to learn as much as possible about HRT. I am 43 years old and am experiencing early peri-menopausal symptoms already. I am taking Yaz, have been for years, over 10 years at least and before Yaz, I was on Minestrin. Both of the pills worked really well for me. Once my peri-menopausal symptoms started, my trusted Yaz stopped working as well. I don’t have any physical symptoms of menopause on it, but I lost my joie de vivre completely. I thought if I bumped up estrogen content to 30 mcg from 20 (change Yaz for Yasmin), it would compensate for the lack of my own estrogen that I must have had circulating in my body even whilst being on Yaz. The reason I think that the ovarian function wasn’t entirely suppressed, is that I was a flirty and vibrant woman and then literally over those few days in May when I had that withdrawal bleed that made me think I was losing my estrogen, I deflated in a matter of a few weeks in my cheeks, my breasts and my hips. Like I lost my sex appeal and flirtatiousness, zest for life. I am not depressed or anything in other areas, but definitely feel like my femininity is taking a hit. Anyway, Yasmin did nothing, it actually made me even more not like myself. I tried it for three months and felt bloated most of the time, and my legs hurt on it. I thought may be Drospirenone was to blame. Since it’s a diuretic, I thought may be now that I lost my own estrogen, I don’t need to flush out the water. So I tried tri cyclen. I was not looking as gaunt any more, but started feeling very numb inside by the end of the pack (during higher progesterone pills). Then I decided to ask my doctor to try me on Estrace. I took 3 mg a day for about a week (she also prescribed Prometrium for 14 days of the month). While I was trying out Estrace without prometrium, in about a week I became quite puffy looking and then read that oral Estradiol metabolizes into estrone first. And then it creates a reserve in the body that may be used to turn into Estradiol. And I remember from your videos that estrone is not the most desirable type of estrogen and what if estrone doesn’t get turned into Estradiol by my body? So I called my doctor and asked her to put me on the patch 0.1 mg of Estradiol since transdermal form acts more physiologically similar to the proportions of estrone:Estradiol of 1:1 vs oral forms. I haven’t tried it yet but my question is, what is the difference between Estradiol and Ethinylestradiol when it comes to their action on the estrogen Alfa and beta receptors in a woman’s body? There must be a reason why cocs make me feel so numb inside even though it’s a more potent type of estrogen? Is transdermal Estradiol the most closely resembling endogenous Estradiol in principle (I realize that individual reactions may differ, but hypothetically may be?). I am having a really hard time with peri menopause and want to understand how these different types of estrogen work. (I haven’t tried prometrium yet so that I can test out each component of hrt separately to recognize individual side effects). Basically, I am back on Yaz. One day I feel fine and next day I feel awful. It’s up and down all the time. But stronger pills just numb me. Really high hopes for the patch but since I am younger and Coc is better for my age group, should I even try it? I worry about my romantic relationship very much, I feel so dead inside and it all happened so suddenly, so quickly. Feels very much like a betrayal by Mother Nature. Also, not sure if it’s important, my menarche age is 9 years old. Early bloomer. What a roller coaster. I hope I am not too annoying with the questions and I don’t think anyone else will know the answer except you. Thank you very much, Dear doctor Taylor for everything you do for us! ❤️❤️❤️

Yes, you can use the Femring with a progestin IUD. Welcome aboard to "Menopause Taylor University." You'll find that if you start at the very first video (going by the number after each title), you'll understand absolutely everything. You'll be shocked at what you didn't know, and delighted that now you do know. Each video builds on the last. It's just like school: You had to learn the alphabet before you could read. Is using cyclical better for side effects rather than daily. Im looking for a new dr. who understand more. My doctor seems to think that there is no such choice, and i can't get good answers. can i just switch to cyclical on my own? thanks
@MenopauseTaylor
@MenopauseTaylor 6 лет назад
I discourage use of words like "better or worse," "good or bad," right or wrong." Nothing is right for everyone. We're all different. Here's what I can tell you in general terms: Anything "cyclical" means that you're mimicking a cycle ... including all the ups & downs that come with a cycle. PMS symptoms happen precisely because of the cycle. And breast cancer risk is directly associated with how many cycles we have. The action of up & down hormones on breast tissue is what increases our risk for breast cancer. On the other hand, if your body isn't ready to handle continuous hormones without bleeding, the cyclic regimen is more appropriate because you can't fight Mother Nature. Most women have more "side-effects" with the cyclic regimen than they do with the continuous regimen. The "continuous" regimen makes everything the same every day. Your hormone levels are steady. But any bleeding on the continuous regimen is considered abnormal & you have to have it evaluated. It's all about trade-offs. I never think it's a good idea to modify your hormones on your own. If your doctor is not well enough informed, then find a doctor who is. You will be managing your menopause for the rest of your life. You need to do so with someone who will works with you. These videos are NOT a do-it-yourself guide. They are an education so that you can be an active, proactive, and educated participant in your menopause management. My goal is to teach you how to get what you want for managing your menopause your way. Finding the right doctor is one of the first steps.

Hi, doctor Taylor, thank you so much for these invaluable informational videos! However, one thing does not make sense to me...theoretically speaking, why would a perimenopausal woman need higher hormone dosages while still producing hormones herself? Wouldn't that add up to too many hormones in the end? I know you said younger women need higher dosages, but does over 40 still count as "younger"? When should the hormone-alarm go off, when should a woman start using hormones for menopause management? When menstrual flow begin to change? When we begin skipping one every now and again? When we start experiencing more severe symptoms in late perimenopause? I know about the estrogen window and when it is too late, but is it ever too early? I am guessing just like hormone deficiency, excess hormones can't be a good thing...
@MenopauseTaylor
@MenopauseTaylor Год назад
You have posed too many questions for me to answer in a comment box. Generally, though, your body produces a bucket of estrogen for about 40 years. Hormone replacement amounts to a drop. When you lose it, the likelihood of your body being satisfied with a drop when it's used to a bucket is almost nil.

I have been struggling with the HRT I am taking, it is controlling my vasomotor symptoms and the vaginal dryness but because my doctor is unwilling to allow me to use the cyclical method because "I would have unopposed estrogen" and has me on continouse HRT, even though I am not yet menopausal. She finally told me at my last appointment after she raised my estrogen dosage again that the best we might achieve is relief from the vasomotor symptoms and I might just have to learn to deal with the spotting/bleeding that I do, most of the month. She won't listen to me even though what she is saying is contradictory to what my research shows. We have one menopause specialist in our area and since he is retiring he is no longer taking new patients. If a doctor is not a member of NAMS and is not a gynocologist but is known as a menopause specialist, would it be worth a try to see her? I just can't wrap my head around irregular spotting and bleeding until I finally go through menopause, good grief I am fixing to turn 53 and it could be another couple of years. Nothing like feeling like you are stupid and the research that you have done is meaningless. So frustrated and about ready to just stop the HRT. Dr. Taylor is my doctor right and the best we can do is to control my vasomotor symptoms and am I just looking for that magic fix?
@MenopauseTaylor
@MenopauseTaylor 5 лет назад
No, your doctor is dropping the ball. You have many options, and you do not have to have any inconvenient spotting. I can help you tremendously so that your time with any doctor is much more productive. And you would be better off with a menopause specialist. The best scenario would be for you to have a consultation with me first so that I can tell you exactly how to go about getting everything you want. So, here's how a consultation works: 1) You would schedule a one-on-one consultation at my website, MenopauseTaylor.ME, choosing a time that is convenient for you. I do consultations on Skype, FaceTime. Facebook Messenger, What’s App, and the phone. 2) I would confirm that you are scheduled for the stated time, and invite you to send me as much information about yourself as you please. You can make it brimming with details and tell me about your reproductive life, any gynecologic problems you've had, your symptoms of peri-menopause, and your symptoms of post-menopause. You can include all your fears, concerns, and goals for your menopause management. You may also send me any labs, mammogram results, bone density results, etc. that you would like me to include in designing your protocol. For instance, if you want to adhere to a certain category of management options (herbs or diet & lifestyle, or whatever), you should tell me that. I would need all these things at least 1 week before your consultation with me. 3) I'll get busy creating a document that gives you all the education you need to understand absolutely everything, points put the pros and cons of each option, and tailors it all to YOU using the information you have provided. The document will be loooooong. Most are 25 - 30 pages. 4) I will send you the document by email at least 24 hours before your consultation. You will benefit greatly by reading it in advance. Light bulbs will go off like crazy, and if you're like most women, you'll feel that you've already gotten your money's worth. 5) During your consultation, we will review the document and address any issues you want to fine tune everything and determine your best options. I'll tell you exactly how to find the right kind of professional, how to have the conversation in order to get what you want, and the nuances of things like guidelines and insurance. I leave nothing unaddressed. 6) You will go to a professional of your choosing in order to get the actual hormones or whatever you choose to use. 7) After the first consultation, I'll hold your hand (forever if you want me to). In other words, you'll be able to schedule mini-consultations (15-minute or 30-minute, in addition to full consultations) whenever you need to. I'll keep records of your situation. Most women schedule mini-consultation whenever they go to the doctor and don't understand what he or she said, or why. I translate. I make sense of everything. Most schedule mini-consultation whenever they have a new test and they want me to explain the results. And all schedule mini-consultation whenever their situation changes and they need to re-weigh and balance their options. The time you spend with me will make everything about working with any other professional so easy. And they will love the fact that you have an actual education rather than a bunch of misconceptions that you got form the Internet. If your initial hormone regimen is not right, you'll want to consult with me before going to your doctor. I can prepare you for what to expect and what to request. So, that's my role. And nobody else on earth does this kind of thing but me. So, I hope you schedule a consultation and let me hold your hand (figuratively).

Believe it or not, kids are sexually active much earlier than you can possibly imagine. Add the risk of teenage pregnancy to all the other benefits of birth control, and it really does make a lot of sense to consider it for your daughter. It would also help control acne (which is one of the most common reasons teenagers take birth control). There are more BENEFITS than risks. Be sure to watch the next video, and you'll see what I mean.

You can just stop it right now. Whoever gave you progesterone does not know what he or she is doing when it comes to menopause. You should consider having a one-on-one consultation with me. Who know what else you provider may have gotten all wrong. I'll make sure you know everything so that you don't have surprises years from now. I'm in the business of educating you about everything you need to know and do in order to get exactly what you want for managing your menopause your way. So, here's how a consultation works: 1) You would schedule a one-on-one consultation at my website, MenopauseTaylor.ME, choosing a time that is convenient for you. I do consultations on Skype, FaceTime. Facebook Messenger, What’s App, and the phone. 2) I would send you an email to confirm that you are scheduled for the stated time, and invite you to send me as much information about yourself as you please. I will give you a deadline for sending all materials, and will not accept anything after that date. 3) I'll get busy creating a document that gives you all the education you need to understand absolutely everything, points out the pros and cons of each option, and tailors it all to YOU, using the information you have provided. The document will be loooooong. Most are over 30 pages. 4) I will send you the document by email 48 hours before your consultation. You will benefit greatly by reading it in advance. Light bulbs will go off like crazy, and if you're like most women, you'll feel that you've already gotten your money's worth. 5) During your consultation, we will review the document and address any issues you want in order to fine tune everything and determine your best options. And all schedule mini-consultation whenever their situation changes and they need to re-weigh and re-balance their options. I hope to meet you soon!

Why are there so many women on forums freaking out about their HRT making their hair loss worse? Even when they go back and supposedly change to a different kind - still. Can you please address the bungling ? Thanks. Even if I consulted you first , I still don't trust the hair thing.
@MenopauseTaylor
@MenopauseTaylor 3 года назад
Hair growth & hair loss are affected by many things. And it just so happens that aging is one of them, along with thyroid hormone changes, & reproductive hormone changes. Think about men: They go bald due to testosterone. For women, when they lose their estrogen at the time of post-menopause, their relative level of testosterone is higher than when they still had estrogen, and ... voilá, they lose hair similar to men.

@MenopauseTaylor
@MenopauseTaylor 7 лет назад
Oh, Melissa, I'm so sorry you've had trouble connecting with me. Hair thinning at menopause is usually due to testosterone in excess of estrogen. It's the same reason men go bald: high testosterone. If you take estrogen and progesterone, it may menthe balance and keep your hair from thinning. Other alternatives are to use topical Rogaine, which decreases hair loss. And there are "Hair, Skin, and Nails' vitamin formulations that can help. The key ingredient for your hair is Biotin. Hair loss is Chapter 20 in my book. It's a short chapter because there aren't that many remedies.

Hello Barbie. At age 52, I went 12 consecutive months without a period before beginning a HRT continuous regimen. After the first 5 weeks I began breakthrough bleeding and continued to take the Climara Pro patch for a total of 1 year with constant break through bleeding. Can I take a HRT cyclical regimen of say Miniville (estradiol only) for two weeks then CombiPatch (estradiol + progesterone) for two weeks which will potentially give me a predictable bleed that I can count on -- even though I thought post-menopausal women don't bleed...?
@MenopauseTaylor
@MenopauseTaylor 6 лет назад
You can! And it sounds like you do need to use a cyclic regimen. Sometimes, we try to force a continuous regimen on our bodies before Mother Nature is ready for us to do so. Try the cyclic regimen for a year or two. Then give the continuous regimen another try.
@kcollar7898

Okay... so I began the HRT cyclical regimen! I'm using the CombiPatch and Miniville. The estradiol is 0.05mg and the progestin is norethindrone. which is 0.14mg/day. Since I'm only getting the progestin for 2 weeks should it be the higher dose that CombiPatch offers of 0.25mg/day? To my surprise my health care provider didn't know about the cyclical regimen and neither did the pharmacist who didn't want to give both prescriptions to me. I feel like I'm prescribing for myself... but I have you Dr. Barbie!! Thank you!

It's shocking,ing how little most professionals know. The majority of pharmacists know nothing. They tell me so themselves. I warn women that, with my education, they WILL know more than their doctors! Only a menopause specialist will be on top of the latest information. And only gynecologist have more than an hour of education from medical school. Because you are taking the progesterone 14 days, you can take the low dosage. Many women only use the progesterone for about 5 days.

You're getting into the kind of nitty-gritty that really requires a one-on-one consultation. Most women hate the way progesterone makes them feel. Is there any way you can schedule a one-on-one consultation? If you do, I'll help you with options for adjusting the kind of progesterone, the delivery system for progesterone, the frequency of progesterone, and the dosage of progesterone. And I'll tailor all of them to your personal situation. I think you're going to get in trouble if you try to do all this with the back-and-forth here. If you want a consultation, go to MenopauseTaylor.ME to schedule one. I do them on Skype, FaceTime, and Facebook Messenger. You can include all the things you want to cover when you fill out the form, and then send me any labs or tests you've had. That way, I can incorporate everything into the session. I'll create a personalized document addressing all your concerns, and send it to you at least one day before our session. That way, you'll have time to read it in advance. It's usually over 12 pages long. We'll make great headway during the consultation. You'll understand everything and have all the options tailored specifically to YOU. You know how much I want to help you. But I will not shortchange you on ensuring that you get the whole story. What you need now requires balancing multiple factors.

Im post menopausal for the past three years (no period) Im 47 this year and my gyno doctor just put me on Estradiol patches .39mg changed every three days WITH 200mg progesterone for 12 days on and then 12 days off. Why would this be chosen for me when Im post menopausal with no period for three years now? Is 200mg of progesterone kind of much for 12days on and then 12days off? Why would my gyno think its good to be on and off like this? I’m new to this medication, i’m only on day 6 with both and now Im worrying about my 12 days off which will be coming up shortly. Will i have my period again on the 12days off? If i’ve been post menopausal for three years why would this be chosen as my treatment plan? My question is, I'm 43 and I believe peri-menopausal ( irregular frequent heavy, painful periods). Lately I've been struggling with moods issues ( grumpy to sad and depressed). My gyn put me on birth control pills which made my depression symptoms worse. Would bioidenticals be an option for me yet?
@MenopauseTaylor
@MenopauseTaylor 7 лет назад
You can certainly try bioidenticals, but they will be much lower dose than your birth control. And the younger you are, the higher the dosage you need to meet your body's demands. There are a variety of birth control options. Not only are there pills, patches, and vaginal rings; there are also many different brands with different types of hormones in them. If you call your Gynecologist (and make sure you work with a Gynecologist rather than your Family Practitioner or Internist), and say you're depressed on this particular birth control pill, it's very easy to switch you to one that will not cause depression. Remember, all women are different. That's why there are so many different birth control options. With bioidenticals, there aren't many options. The only variable is the ratio of estrogen to progesterone. And I just don't think you're going to get relief of your symptoms on them at your age.

I took Microgestin for 20+ years on a continuous cycle (non-cyclical) & stopped 1 yr ago. Didn't notice any issues until about 4 months later, when I started periods again. Tried estradiol & micronized progesterone pills but stopped after 30 days. Felt nauseous for 2-3 weeks so I stopped. Is this common when using HRT vs. brith control? Since the HRT is a lesser dose of hormones, or perhaps because I was off the Microgestin for 7 months before I tried the HRT? Was wondering if maybe the side effects would go away if I waited longer...? I watched another video about all 3 different hormones, to help determine your symptoms & know which hormone to use for treatment. I got a progesterone cream from a compounding pharmacy, which I use nightly. I read a comment on another feed that said taking progesterone by itself doesn't do anything. Is that true? Dr Barbie, I was on birth control pills in my early twenties for five years, only. when I was 43 I stopped my menstrual cycle. 30 years later I am now 50 and I just started HTR. do I run a risk of having another. By taking HDR?

What do you mean by "HTR"? (I've learned there are just too many acronyms out there. Sometimes, I answer a question assuming an acronym is one thing only to discover that my viewers is talking about something else completely.)

Menopause Taylor , lol I ment to say HRT ( hormone replacement therapy)🤗
@MenopauseTaylor
@MenopauseTaylor 7 лет назад
HRT will make you have a period if you take it in a "cyclic" fashion. Cyclic means that you take estrogen by itself for about half of your cycle & then add progesterone to it for a few days each month. If you do that, you'll have a period when you stop the progesterone. HRT will not make you have a period if you take it in a "continuous" fashion. Continuous means that you take both estrogen & progesterone every day.

Ha! That's easy; I have no routine! I do nothing, absolutely nothing. I don't own a brush, and only comb my hair with a wide-tooth comb twice a week when wash it. I leave the conditioner in it rather than rinsing it out. I don't color it (although I have a few squiggly gray hairs here and there because I'll be 60 next month), try to straighten it, or manipulate it in any way. I just leave it alone. So, I guess you would call it "The Neglect Plan."

Hello Dr T - I've been watching (in order :-) and I'm pretty sure I'm ready to take the Prempro my doctor prescribed for me several months ago. Its .45mg/1.5 mg estrogen/progesterone - continuous. I'm in great health (although a poster child for osteoporosis) - took birth control for YEARS and when I stopped the BC 6 years ago my period never came back. I'm 51 now and haven't had a period on a long time - nor do I want one. Do you suspect I will breakthrough bleed while on HRT? I'm a lower body weight/BMI and I suspect thats why my period never came back? Not sure if I'm postmenopausal now - by the 12 month with no cycle definition I am - but I'm unsure if that applies to all cases of why period might have gone missing in the first place. Anyhoo- HRT seems right for me based on all I've learned. But I really don't want to deal with bleeding again. I know you cant predict for sure - but what would educated guess be - will the Prempro cause some breakthrough spotting/light cycle? Thanks so much - will continue watching and learning!

Jessica, This is precisely the kind of thing for which I do one-on-one consultations. You definitely need one. No two women are alike, and addressing your situation requires tailoring all the facts specifically to YOU. From what you've written, I can tell you that you really NEED a consultation. There are some inadequacies in your current management. And all schedule mini-consultation whenever their situation changes and they need to re-weigh and re-balance their options. The time you spend with me will make everything about working with any other professional so easy. And they will love the fact that you have an actual education rather than a bunch of misconceptions that you got from the Internet. I hope to meet you soon!

Why do some refer to Progesterone as the master or mother of all hormones
@MenopauseTaylor
@MenopauseTaylor 3 года назад
Because they are pushing progesterone, that's why. It's very common in the alternative community, where the philosophy is that estrogen is bad and progesterone is good. But, the 3 sex hormones are like the 3 Bears: Testosterone belongs to Pap Bear. Estrogen belongs to Mama Bear. Progesterone belongs to Baby Bear. Progesterone is the hormone in support of pregnancy that supports Baby Bear. The only reason you produce it is to benefit Baby Bear during your pregnancy with Baby Bear. Pro = In support of Gest = gestation (or pregnancy) One = Hormone. If you start with video #1 and watch all my videos in order, you will learn al these basic things and never have to wonder about anything again.

If you do the cyclic regime, will you never go into menopause? .. I'm being told (by obgyn) to get off estrogen so I can go menopausal, because the estrogen is causing my periods to never end ?? what am I missing here? I'm allowing my cycle to fade on its own and don't understand why obgyn don't tell me (or other women) that when I/you do go menopausal and get on estrogen I/us will start my cycle again ..lol ??

So, Dr. Barbie, I'm 47 and Im in the continuous regimen of low dose birth control pill and I get spotting every now and then (twice in the past year) does that simply means that my body is not ready to stop periods just yet ? should I continue with the continous regimen? is there any danger if I continue on the continuous regimen ?

I feel so much better on my 0.5 estriadol the last 5 days of my continuous regimen which is days 1thru 25 both 0.5 estradiol and 100 mg progesterone. How would this work in a monthly cyclic regimen? 0.5 estradiol for 18 days and finish with 100 mg progesterone for the rest of the month? I seem to have more moodiness on the estradiol and progesterone days than the last 5. I think I need to change it up!! Am I right on the days and will I have a period? Will I still be protecting my uterus? Thank you again..
@MenopauseTaylor
@MenopauseTaylor 7 лет назад
A cyclic regimen would entail taking your estradiol 0.5 mg every day of the month. And you'd take the progesterone 100 mg 5 - 10 days each month. You'd have a period when you finish the progesterone days. Both the continuous and the cyclic regimens will protect your uterus from uterine cancer. By the way, both of these dosages you're taking now are half the necessary dosage for preventing heart attack, osteoporosis, and Alzheimer's Disease. They're enough to alleviate your symptoms, but not enough to prevent these diseases.
