I’ve seen a few prius videos. You make this easy. Step by step and 1st person videos showing exactly where things are. Appreciate this video. These will be the only videos I will need to get her done ✅
Are the o-ring type seals in the valve train that the Felpro set doesn’t come with(that 3-in-1 o-ring and the other singles) sold as a set from any particular manufacturer?
Hey whats going on abel!!! Yeah just started it up this year man. Gunna do more here in the new future. My wife and I are in escrow on our own shop hoping to close and open up in January 👍. What have you been up to these days.
When doing this job would you recommend going ahead with a water pump replacement although it seems to be in good condition? Currently taking on this project on my 2012 Lexus CT200h (same drivetrain) w/ 168k and I'm wondering if it is worth doing while I have it in hand
Personally unless there was something physically wrong with that water pump I dont recommend changing it. The electric pumps are not exactly cheap for 1 and they will tend to throw a water pump speed variation code when they do go bad..... now thats not to say replacement is gunna hurt...... but I have done many of these head gasket jobs and not had an issue with them after the job.
@@rivieraauto8540 Thanks for the quick response. That’s about what I figured. Without any overheating and just the small leak have you found the need for resurfacing the head pretty common, or just case by case and inspection based?
@@gv4832 do not resurface those heads take to much off and you run the risk of cam timing to retarded codes being set. I wanna sat off the top of my head..... the tolerance is close to only .020 material may be removed from that head.... if its warped its most likely gunna be way out and you will be looking a head replacement.....good news is..... with as many as I have done so far I have yet to find a warped head on these cars.
@@rivieraauto8540 Much appreciated. I've had similar advice from others but I like to make sure. Haven't had any significant heat so hopefully warping won't be an issue.Again, much appreciated
As long as the head warpage and block has no warpage which is really rare have not even experienced one yet myself.... replace the spark plugs. Otherwise most of the stuff is re usable but does need to be inspected 👍
I'm doing mine these incoming weeks I'm changing the water pump and clean egr cooler, intake manifold, and head, hopefully head or block are not warped. Only seems to be leaking in cylinder 2
@@lobogris4806 that seems to be the most common cylinder to have leak.... as for warpage its not impossible but very unlikely as long as u follow the removal sequence to A tee
I think you can put different hashtags on the videos like #Prius #head-gasket or other stuff even the boarscope Camera you can put the model number because there are some ppl that research into it before buying and I’m sure they wanna see it in use
Actually I do not recommend the red rtv.... its not the greatest sealer for aluminum surfaces.... if you are going to substitute it for an RTV and not use the toyota FIPG..... you are better off using ultra grey. Now the black FIPG from toyota is actually not that expensive its like 18 bucks for a tube..... this whole project including sealer and coolant actually cost a lil under 200 bucks if you do it yourself.
The last estimate I put together for prius head gasket repairs wound up being around 2500..... unfortunately the customer also had a bent connecting rod which also had to be repaired.... Its rare to find that but sometimes happens. But the end price with connecting rod replacement wound up being around 3400 bucks. And was still half of what he was quoted for head gasket repair by the dealer in napa. I do know parte have gone up a lil bit so I would expect around 2500 dollars give or take a couple hundred bucks if you had it done through me. That all depends on where you live. I live in california where shop labor rates right now are in the ballpark of 140 bucks an hour these days. When I was at the dealer the book labor time was 24 hrs. Im working in an independent shop now and recently looked up shop labor time for this repair to be at around 17 hrs. Plus shops are going to recommend machine shop pressure testing things like that to ensure the head is still serviceable before reinstallation. So figure an additional 350 bucks for that.
