Live the video! Very informative. One question that I have is if there is a limit on number of pax you can carry at once with your private license? I know for Sport and Recreational you can only carry 1 pax. Is there anything like that for private? I have a large family.

Technically there is no limit on the number of passengers. However, larger aircraft may require additional endorsements or ratings.

Right now I'm training in a Cessna 172, I am about to get my license, say I wanted to fly a piper or a mooney, something very similar to a Cessna, do you have to get an instructor to sign you off on those planes, or train you to fly those planes? Or can you get a friend who is a Pilot to show you how to fly those planes? Thank you.

Hi Patrick - good question. Once a pilot is certified in the appropriate category and class, they are legally able to fly any aircraft within those limitations. Assuming the pilot meets the currency requirements of 61.56 and 61.57 applicable to the flight as well as any aircraft specific requirements such as type rating, high performance, complex, or tail wheel endorsements, they are legally capable of flying the aircraft. For example if you were trained in a Cessna 172 and then wanted to rent a Piper Archer, assuming the currency requirements are met, there is no specific training required to fly the Archer. The reality is that insurance requirements will dictate that the pilot would be “checked out” with an authorized pilot before being able to legally rent. Moreover, it is more important to realize that just because a pilot is legally capable of conducting a flight doesn’t mean that it is safe to do so. Instead a pilot should be proficient in any aircraft they seek to fly instead of just ‘legal’ to fly
