@rajap6145
@rajap6145 5 лет назад
dylan foley when i was new to the USA, people used to ask me what’s my favorite American dish is and I was like..umm..Burger? I still don’t know what’s authentic American dish is. Biscuits and gravy?
@nommchompsky
@nommchompsky 5 лет назад
@dylan foley My understanding is that plenty of southern foods are uniquely American. BBQ, cornbread, etc. Also the culture vulture thing is a bit disrespectful considering America has been a gathering place of different cultures. I have a feeling you don't know what you're talking about
@aquietlife8234
@aquietlife8234 5 лет назад
@dylan foley that seems like reducing what it is to be an immigrant in a new country. As a nation of immigrants, Americans cook their history, and doing so, they end up putting a spin on the original dish - you can call it bastardizing if you prefer, but the end result is the same. Priya does the same in her cookbook and in her videos - she takes Indian recipes and then cooks with ingredients that are available locally and the foods she and her family were exposed to as Americans. Roti pizza sometimes made with a wheat tortilla instead of actual roti, dahi toast made with sourdough, etc etc. This is not just Indian cooking, it's specifically immigrant Indian food. There is no one American cuisine because there is no one unified American culture. There's just a land that people flooded in the last 200 years with their different cultures and cuisines. Maybe when we have an extra 200 years of history, this will change. Maybe not.
@KenS1267
@KenS1267 5 лет назад
@dylan foleyWTF? Nothing is actually American? Corn bread, Fried Chicken, Fried Green Tomatoes, Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, Brown Betty, Cobblers, American style Biscuits, Sweet Potato Pie, Pecan Pie and more but I got bored. BTW We didn't kill off everything that grew here. American settlers learned corn, bean and squash cultivation from the Native Americans. My ancestors, I'm partially of Cherokee descent, had a diet built around those three vegetables long before they ever saw a European and those vegetables are still primary ingredients in much of American cuisine. My anglo grandmother made a better succotash than my Cherokee descended one. Also things like pecan are native to North America, as are things like blueberries, blackberries, cranberries and a bunch of other fruits spread by birds that are native to the entire northern hemisphere.

@Ma5jay5dontxdoxthat

That's why you easy people into foods that isnt scary first. Like theres a lot of things that my culture borrowed from western culture and that's why I always start with and then I introduce them to the pig ears and stomach lining. Also cooking is for everyone, but it also isnt. At least when you involve others. Not everyone is going to like what you make, weather it's because includes something they dont like or is just actually bad. It's just an unenjoyable experience when you're stressed out and anxious about cooking for someone and that person is made to feel bad if they dont like the food, yes, I know people dont mean for other to feel bad about that but if you are getting (visibly) upset that they didn't like it, they will also have a negative reaction, and probably will get anxious or right out refuse, next time you offer food to them.

@@givememore4free I think you're reading too much into it. You're commenting on like every comment about this. No one is saying they aren't friends, or anything like that. No one is saying he was personally trying to attack Priya. Some people think it was a rude thing to do. Especially on camera. Move on dude.
@givememore4free
@givememore4free 5 лет назад
@@CurlyFreys okay with all that being said do you really think he's trying to be rude? I'm defending Andy only because people have been bashing him since this video has been out. The clip of him throwing out the green peppers was actually kind of funny. He was not trying to hurt her, he was not trying to be rude, and that's all it is.

Green bell peppers are so good in things like tomato beef stews though?? We use them for my mom's Kaldereta recipe lol I really love the bitterness and crunch they give and they really balance out overly rich dishes like beef stews and such Also the moment BA features SE Asian cuisine my life would be complete

Gretchen Krebs. Yes, I realise that. Let me expand. If he doesn’t like green peppers, he should not have eaten the dish rather than waste perfectly good food. Or he should have eaten the whole dish anyway. To throw away food, especially on camera, and especially on a cooking channel, is disrespectful to the cook. And disrespectful to people who cannot afford to be picky about which peppers they like.
@andrewmoore4429
@andrewmoore4429 5 лет назад
Jamie MacRae So you’re telling me that you have never discard an ingredient on a dish because you didn’t prefer it. It would have been way more rude if he refused to eat the dish, than to simply get rid an ingredient that he doesn’t like. What he did was no different than someone discarding a piece of cilantro garnish because it tastes like soap to them. Are people not allowed to have preferences? You also say that he should not have thrown them away on camera, but keep in mind one shoot probably takes a few hours to complete, you can’t expect everybody in the Test Kitchen to be perfect during that long of a timespan.

Green pepper i love only when sauted with the onions REALLY well till all soft and no crunch, you wouldnt believe the incredible flavor it gives off! I like to put that on a philly cheesteak, but i would like to try it in a fried rice or pulao style dish. I would only add colored peppers at the end for crunch 😂

Priya you need to start using ghee in your desi cooking, girl. Ghee has a super high smoke point, it has a delicious, nutty flavour, is prebiotic, AND it’s a short-chain fatty acid, which means it’s so so good for you.

Despite hating Cilantro with a passion, I decided to make this dish and it was absolutely amazing. It's incredibly easy to make and the ingredients go together very well (even the cilantro for both me and my family who never liked it). The only downside would be that shrimp is rather expensive if you're planning to cook this often, but for a dish like this I feel like it's worth it. :)

Just tried it and it's lovely! I did make some adjustments: - Note: you need 1 cup of dried quinoa to make 3 cups of cooked quinoa for this recipe - When cooking the quinoa, I added one chicken stock cube for a nice flavor which meant I didn't need to add salt later on - Nothing was happening when I cooked on low, so I cooked on medium and it was fine - Added some paprika and chilli powder for a kick

Why did they show him throwing it away on camera how rude . I feel like when it comes to the ethnic people making food on this channel when they ask the other people to try there food they all look like they don't wanna do it but they do it because they know if they don't they will look rude . But then when someone makes some basic Italian food or chicken everyone is like omg yes I will try this, this is so goooood . Like get over yourself .
