It also depends on the size of your office and how many Insurance plans your office takes. If you are in a big practice with many many insurance plans, you’re going to be seeing so many people come in and out of the door, tons of new patients and all the challenges that can bring especially if they only give you one hour. Also in my opinion they have just used the excuse about the hourly pay for no benefits as a way to be cheap. Most of these dentists make great money and have multiple expensive homes and vehicles; they get rich by not offering benefits to people and continually raising their prices but barely any raises. I’ve been in the dental field for 29 years and I’m in my 18th year of hygiene. They barely give out raises. It’s just being cheap. I’m getting another degree and hope to leave this industry soon. They also use the pandemic as an excuse even though they got PPP loans.

Yes office size and insurance being accepted do play a huge role in how many people you see! Unfortunately a lot of doctors are cheap and won’t give out raises no matter what. We as hygienists have to stand firm in what are willing to accept. Of course we would rather stick with one place but if we find ourselves in a situation that is less than ideal, we have to either put our foot down or move on. I have found that the places I’ve worked have not increased their fees however insurance companies have changed their coverages and benefits. Thank you for sharing your experience, I really appreciate it. I hope that whatever field you decide to go to next treats you well love 🥰

The first 2 cons sound like a breeze compared to carpenter work. Out in the 100+ degree weather or if it’s cold af we still outside. Plus there are many days there are 12-16hr days

Thank you for leaving feedback 🥰 Personally I workout and stretch 4-5 times a week so that’s how I cope but I can include some tips in my next hygiene video!!

So what do you consider “good pay”?

Do you like your job? I'm pursuing this career and the no benefits is a huge turn off! Considering how much private insurance can be.

I actually love the field! It takes a toll on you overtime but I feel like that’s every job. There are plenty of corporate hygiene jobs and hospital hygiene jobs that do offer insurance though 🥰

Thanks for the response! I definitely try to not let it discourage me. I've had so many people tell me to do nursing instead but nursing is rough! This seems like a better career.

@@amiaprimm920 I would advise you to chase what your passionate for. Both fields are tough trust me, but if you go after what you’re passionate about you’ll feel different on those days that are tough when you love what you do.

Do you think being an assistant before going to DH school is necessary? I’m going into DH school with no background in dentistry and I’d love to get your opinion!

Thank you for watching! I don’t believe it is necessary to be an assistant first, there are plenty of students who come in without experience. However, I would suggest before starting hygiene school, becoming more familiar with some basics because the students around you already have an upper hand. I would get familiar with teeth numbers, a little bit of tooth anatomy and some basic terms. This way, you go in with some confidence and a small foundation 🥰🥳 Congrats on getting in, wishing you all the best!

Hii, is there a place I could DM with some questions about the field? I’m coming from a background in veterinary medicine and I love the dentistry aspect of the cases and I’m interested in switching over.

@@Cat-nf9bh I actually didn’t end up switching and I’m applying to vet school this upcoming cycle lol. Good luck on your journey and if you have any questions you can reach out to me, I know the vet field can be a lot (but I’m hoping to change that)!

Do you still get paid if a patient doesn’t show? (I’ve always wondered this) 😅
@candidwithcassie3717
@candidwithcassie3717 Год назад
Great question! Yes you still get paid. If the entire schedule falls apart they may ask you to go home or not come in. This is something to discuss when being hired, so you know what to expect 😁
