I am working through the EXACT question. ATP is expensive and fast, but full time. A local academy is less money, but may take forever.

It’s awesome to hear about Luke being a commercial plumber, Luke if you see this I’m also a commercial plumber out of Washington State, I’m 29 and recently left my Plumbing career and joined a flight school in North Carolina that advertise 6 month program from 0 experience to Commercial and CFI. Like these guys say, taking action and getting the training over with is my number #1 priority. Then once I’m a CFI I can pull some side work along with my instructor job for extra cash flow. If you don’t do it now, you’ll do it ten years from now when it’s harder and more expensive…Hope this helps!

Thats awesome! I'm 29, been an electrician for 10 years now and I'm looking to make the jump. Just got my class 1 medical today and I'm good to go. However in Alabama, I am near 2 flight schools and ATP. Whats the name of the 0-6 month program you are in?

I was wanting to pursue a professional flying career, however, the problem is the new rule on part 135 and part 91 state that operators have the option of forcing retirement of pilots of age 65 just like the part 121 pilots, it’s too bad they decided to do this because now being that I am 59 years old and in great health, it still would make spending a small fortune to pursue a career that is uncertain at best would not be worth it, yet they say there is a pilot shortage right? The government just made it impossible for older pilots to stay employed and you are always wondering when and who will use this rule.

QUESTION: If I offer to purchase block flying time from someone, how much of a discount should I realistically ask for?---How much for 100, 200, 300hrs??

Hey, I have family in Peru so that will obviously cover the cost of housing. My question is if I can do flight training abroad, even though I want to work for a US airline? The typical rate I’m paying at my flight school now is $170 aircraft and $70 instructor. It would be immensely cheaper in Peru, but I am apprehensive about it. Can I transfer the credits/requirements, are there equivalents?

Hello guys! I'm currently in the process of buying my own airplane and looking at just flying for fun, but at some point in the future, I would like to become an airline or corporate pilot with the latter being the preferred. I have a full excel spreadsheet I have been going through costs to get my 1500 hours in great detail. Currently, it would cost me around 46,000 to get my hours in. I am a mechanical engineer with my private pilot's license and working on IFR. My flight instructor just left for the airlines and I could share hours with another student to keep costs down, but I still need a new flight instructor. My question is: at max speed, it would still take me about 13-14 months to complete the hours required to join the regionals; with the current climate, would the pilot industry still be favorable to join or should I plan on sticking with engineering for another few years?

I live in the Toronto area. I was trying to get into aviation for the 4th time before Covid hit ( I have ppl from 2008). I work a full time job and live alone. I was very lucky with the perfect combo of that job plus a part time job which fit into my schedule so well I could pay off my training and go into the industry without debt. But Covid had other ideas. That old PT job is no longer an option, and since my promotion, most pt options are off the table. Covid had such bad effects on my mental and physical health. I’m in my 40s and have all but given up on a flying career- I just don’t see any reasonable way to achieve this and still have time to make money or work corporate.
