My dad flew corporate after Pan Am bit the dust. He told the CEO of one of the largest multi nationals NO. It didn’t stop him from ending up the chief pilot for them, and he flew for them until he was 76.
being stuck in the house every day with your woman/kids I have seen ruin some men, that shit was too funny. Awesome perspective on the rekindling that relationship coming and going. Channel rocks, new sub for sure.
I will never understand how she received her license to begin with, let alone additional ratings. It's just wild. Her instructors failed her big time. Sometimes you just have to say "this isn't for you".
Speaking with a few of my friends that fly for the majors the companies provide/prefer the Jeppeson app but they all used ForeFlight until they were required to switch (and the company paid for it).
Kudos for persevering with what sounds like a candidate for Worst Flight School Ever!!! Your Instructors blatant disregard for your time, training and safety is astounding. Sorry that you had this experience - not all flight schools are alike.
Hi, Mike and Sean! Loving all the info on your channel. Im new to Aviation and currently studying with an online ground school before beginning my PPL training. Interestingly enough, im also fairly new to Cincinnati and about 15 minutes from Lunken. Hope to be able to meet you guys and shake your hands one day!
As someone who is pursuing the corporate/private route, this was really informative! Thanks as always for the content and motivation in pursuing this career. Getting ready for PPL checkride in the next month!
Hey guys, thanks for another great vid, I cringed when talking about ASE or LAS , makes me paranoid about calling the FBO ahead of time to get a picture of what’s coming !:)
Another great podcast, gentlemen. I'm getting close to taking my commercial checkride. At age 57, I'm still thinking about what I want to do as a pilot. I'm leaning towards becoming a CFI, and I'm hoping for opportunities in part 91 or 135. I'm not sure if part 121 would be possible at my age.
Another great pod. Thank you guys for keeping me going! About to take my PPL check ride! You guys are a big reason on why I started my journey of becoming a pilot.
Not a pilot but I do have general knowledge of flying with my dad being in the Airforce but, I will say if I was in a small plane and heard the pilot say what's that button for or anything to that affect I would be highly concerned. Stevie Wonder could see she was out of her league.
Being a truck driver for a long time has prepared me for a lot of this. Telling a dispatcher who's very passive aggressively trying to make you drive in clearly unsafe weather, you have to learn how to say no. Sure that may be a bit different than a wealthy business person who has some influence but yhat doesn't change my stance. A lot of it is like you said, how you handle it with the customer which can make all the difference. Another great episode guys!
The iPad app and the iPhone app are the same thing - ForeFlight Mobile. There is also a desktop version that you can view from a web browser with most of the same features. Most of the airlines use Jeppesen Flight Deck Pro - also owned by Boeing.
In Turkey you pay for your type rating even at the flag carrier and it costs more than if you get a type rating yourself. They make you sign a loan agreement so that you pay them back in installments. It takes them up to a year to organise a base check. Nowadays they hire inexperienced but type rated candidates (oncl. zero hours). It costs less, you complete faster.
Brandon it’s been great getting to know you on the private calls. I appreciate the advice you have given me there. I am rooting for you to successfully pass your checkride, but also learned a ton from your struggles. Keep up all of your humble hard work!!!
I agree on needing 1500 for121 or 135 over 30 passengers as a base requirement. My issue with the 1500 hour rule is all the smaller planes are turning to single pilot ops (which the captain requires 1200 hours for IFR or really higher because its single pilot ops). The co-pilot in these single pilot aircraft are not allowed by FAA regs to record time in the 2nd seat even though higher performance aircraft experience would be a big help over 172. Other then CFI there really is only a couple places where a 300-1200 pilot is useful. As we get more automation, as the regs require a single competent (more hour) captain, there is less and less space for an SIC to gain experience.
As a 25+ year airline pilot and former CFII, I truly believe that turning flight training into some video production in extremely counterproductive; most especially in weaker students. If you're serious about getting your rating, you can hold off on the vid posting until you truly know what you're doing. If I was instructing in the "RU-vid age", there's no way I would permit it. None! Secondly, her instructors overly coddled her...badly. Lastly, unless she lucked out and had the best aviatin' day of her life, I can't see how the DE passed her. On my private ride all those centuries ago, my DE told me, "When you land, I want your nosewheel splitting the middle of the centerline markings. When I sign you off, you're legal to land on any old narrow strip that you choose and I want to know that you can do it!" PS Pilots with under 750-1,000 hours shouldn't even be touching an autopilot. Learn to stick and rudder, then play with the gadgets. Yeah, I'm old school...but I'm still alive and my ticket is totally unblemished.
This is very irresponsible video. You may cause people to quit their jobs and sell their houses to do something that only 0.00001% of people could pull off
I have watched several videos on this person, and unless I missed something I don't recall ever hearing her mention the actual course she needed to fly. "This way" or "let's see which way it takes us" isn't a course. 092° is a course.
In one of her videos she describes what amounts to an inflight emergency. According to training, a quick return to the field would be the best option. I think ATC even asked her if she wanted to return to the field. She declined. I think the emergency was confusion about the automation. It was frustrating to watch. I hope this can help other pilots fly safely. Bottom line - fly the plane. In any aircraft at any time - a pilot needs to be able to fly the plane. - #GimliGlider
You guys continue to inspire. I started listening to the podcast in 2020 with a dream of flying and zero flight hours. Been a listener ever since and currently with 200 hours and a PPL, about to sit for my IFR rating. I’m also in training for Army National Guard helicopters. Please keep up the work… it has encouraged me to chase the dream!
Serious question: why was is it so important to use the autopilot for 4O mile flight ? Was it because this AP was just another “cool gadget “ she wanted to try?
