It's the first round of Modern on Day 2, and we lead off with a spicy one: Luis Scott Vargas (Colorless Eldrazi) versus Yuuya Watanabe (Through the Breach).
That was funny and the commentators didn't catch it, but at like the three minute mark yuuya showed a serum visions he put on the bottom of the library expecting the turn one chalice that got a laugh out of lsv
There was me looking forward to a new modern. Couldn't wait to see the variations.... Most boring plays ever... great top 8... glad we banned splinter and bloom so we have fun! wont be tuning into the top 8 tomorrow!
I mostly agree with you. there's a few problems here. For one, as he said the eldrazi weren't tested for modern, they should have known how broken fast mana can be with the eye, eldrazi and the cheap eldrazi. on the other hand this is exactually what they want, to sell boosters of Oath. If eldrazi wasent good then this Pro"motional" tour wouldn't have made as much for wizzards. that's why's theres one modern pro tour a year and 3 standard ones. also everything being eldrazi is an outcome of the teams that are collaborating. they decided it was broken, so they are all playing it, makes for a stale event. I would much rather watch twin here, then a weird modern version of workshops.
+Marc Murphy I'm perfectly fine with this. Splinter Twin has been king for more than long enough and Bloom was just stupid fast/boring. Mostly though, I'm happy that modern is finally affordable like it's supposed to be. The fact that I can put together 90% of a tier 1 modern deck from booster that I can open in a FNM draft is amazing. MTG first and foremost is a game, there should not be a $1000+ barrier to entry because WotC is afraid to print/reprint cards that don't suck.
+Bloodfire83 so, in a format where sol and ancient tomb are considered to powerful this deck can play basicly 8 ancient tombs? 4 of those able at add 4-8 mana each playing multiple spells a turn, with minimal hate cards available at the speed there playing at. perfect.
+Bloodfire83 also when u talk about price and affordability. these eldrazi deck aren't even that cheap, there still like 600-800$ around the same price as something like merfolk, burn, living end, ad nesaum, and many others.
+Bloodfire83 Actually modern right now is stupid expensive compared to when I was playing about a yr ago. Voice was roughly 20-25$ now its 43$, eye of ugin now a 40$ land when it was 2$, Blood moon was about 30$ or so, now it's 50$, Goryo's vengeance was 15$-20$ish I believe now its almost 40$, Liliana of the veil was 90$ now its 115$, New jace is 90-95$ (that's crazy). Scalding Tarn and other tap sac lands are ridiculous now except for the reprints but those have gone up slightly (which was inevitably going to happen anyway). And a lot of the mm2 cards have went up themselves. I could have gone on and on. I want to get back into magic, but these prices have gotten even more ridiculous. So I have to disagree that it is more affordable now....
