great it reduced the capturing time and error joining the points in broad daylight. hopefully its cleared the error in the mirror covered roos too. good move the size and weight is reduced. hope normal tripods can use for this as we photographers trying to reduce gear count. lastly, the pricing I feel bit overpriced, because now in the market there are a lot competitions. and more friendly service providers. 6000$ for a basic package its bit expensive...
@Matterport
@Matterport Год назад
Yes, as long as you have a good Prosumer tripod like the Manfrottos we recommend for the Pro2, that will work just fine. The camera is actually not much lighter than a Pro2 and with the weight distribution moving around as it rotates, a good tripod is highly recommended. As long as it has a 3/8" - 16 thread, the T-Mount that comes with the camera will fit and you're set.

Can you do Floorplans with outdoor scans?
@Matterport
@Matterport Год назад
I don't recall seeing the floor plan team ever including the yard/outdoors in a floor plan sketch. With exteriors now getting supported with the Pro3, we may have to introduce a new landscape and topography feature ;)
@newworldindustries3087
@newworldindustries3087 Год назад
So we need to have a dedicated tripod for this now? I liked being able to use the same tripod with a quick release plate on the MPP2 , why didn't you keep that lug? I don't know any real estate photographers that like carting around a second tripod. They use one tripod and QR plates.
@immerse3sixty792
@immerse3sixty792 Год назад
Actually I do. I have one dedicated to the Pro2 that is never fully stowed and kept with only legs folded in when not in use. I then have a second tripod for my photos...It really works well...No need to keep re setting up the Pro2
@newworldindustries3087
@newworldindustries3087 Год назад
@@immerse3sixty792 Why would you keep setting it up?Apart from different units in the same building?
@Matterport
@Matterport Год назад
You can use any prosumer-grade tripod, just like what you're using for the Pro2. Just remove the quick-release clamp and place the new T-Mount on your tripod when using the Pro3.
@newworldindustries3087
@newworldindustries3087 Год назад
@@Matterport That defeats the purpose of quick switching when I need to remove the tripod head to mount the Pro3. I can move from a mirrorless camera to the Pro2 in seconds, not minutes. It would be better to just get a new iPhone 13 wthat has lidar and use it with the Axis unit and save about $3500 for the same features.
@Matterport
@Matterport Год назад
@@newworldindustries3087 I see your point and, yes, the new quick release would make switching between a DSLR and Pro3 take a bit more time. I would consider switching less frequently if possible, though I'm sure that's not always the case. If you can complete the full Matterport scan and then go back to capture the still images, of course that would be ideal - again, I know not always possible. As for using an iPhone with LiDAR, that would be better suited for a different use case. Not all LiDAR is created equal and there is a HUGE difference between the LiDAR on an iPhone vs what's used in a Pro3 vs the LiDAR used in a FARO camera. They each produce radically different results and that result is what you should consider when choosing the right tool for the job.

This looks like exactly what we have been waiting for. PLEASE show demonstration or send me one to make a demonstration. I use the Pro2 almost weekly for work. We have a few Pro2s and I tried the BLK360. The Pro2 is slow and lacks accuracy and the BLK360 is way too expensive and almost useless without removable battery or storage. New BLK360 looks better but WAY too expensive. What most people don’t understand is that you need 3 to 4 scans per room regardless of the scanner specs because of all the obstructions. So small, fast, and accurate at short distances and works outside short range is PERFECT.

@PolioVitruvius

@@teringdeteringman sorry, yes, the original BLK360 has a removable battery but no plug at all and no hot-swap battery either and only WiFi data download. So I put in a completely full battery and it died before the data downloaded so it wasted hours of time. Poor design.

The off center axis is a good thing for 360 photography. It is aligned with the nodal entry point of the lens, and will result in better stitched panos...

Holy moly that's expensive... Virtual tours are falling out of favor with the realtors I work with. Video tours are easier to watch and more trendy for social media. When I do need to create a virtual tour, Zillow with the theta z1 is free and is nearly as good as the expensive Matterport VT, and now I need to buy a 6k camera again... no way...
@Matterport
@Matterport Год назад
Hi Craig, You make a great point. I just wanted to clarify this isn't the only camera we support, it's just the latest one. You can get an Axis unit for $70 and use your own phone. For many real estate use cases, that's all you need and the quality is stunning. It all just depends on your use case and what you're looking to do with the digital twin once it's captured.
@JamesGodish
@JamesGodish Год назад
Looks cool but, would love to see a video showing it in use. So I would no longer have to do 360s outside and can remain using 3D if I choose? Assume this has the capability to shoot 360?
@Matterport
@Matterport Год назад
Hi Jim, Yes, this camera can also shoot 360 Views so you're not limited to only shooting 3D scans. While you can include the outdoors now as part of the 3D model, whether you want to or not really depends on your use case and client. Keep in mind when you shoot the outside in 3D to make the dollhouse look more complete you may want to include the entire outdoor area in 3D, which can add significant time to your scanning process. If you just need one or two 360's from the outside, using the Views option instead of 3D Scan will keep your dollhouse looking nice and consistent without the potentially unnecessary amount of outdoor scans. It's really a case-by-case decision.

With it using Lidar, are the pictures of higher quality? I understand it cant send the user RAW. Will the JPG be higher initial quality because it was scanned with more data? I'd like to not have to use a handheld camera at the same job when scanning a home due to trying to edit a JPG picture post production. Thaks for your feedback
@Matterport
@Matterport Год назад
The 2D images are one thing and the LiDAR is another. One doesn't affect the quality of the other. Like all cameras supported by Matterport, this is essentially a point-and-shoot. Everything that can be automated, has been automated, including all image quality settings. The image quality is really nice, but just not editable and many stitching errors from the Pro2, caused by its design, have been resolved.
@360virtualpromotions6
@360virtualpromotions6 Год назад
@@Matterport I appreciate your reply. In the future, after the Pro 3, if you can make it with RAW I'd then not need to higher a photographer for higher end jobs. Currently it requires timing of daylight moreso than if there were RAW images to edit. Thanks again. Scanning outdoors, the time of scans, and distance apart, is a huge gain.

Does the lifetime of one battery in Pro3 is the same as in Pro2? What if you have bigger spaces like 10 000 sq ft? Will two batteries be enough to capture the whole space if you charge one of them in the meantime?
@Matterport

I have to agree with this. The fact that I STILL can't export a damn full-resolution pano out of my Matterport scans is a travesty and should be grounds for a lawsuit. We capture the images and don't even have access to the actual images we capture. And of course, now this camera isn't compatible with the Classic plans, so they are forcing you to move to their ridiculously expensive hosting plans. Not to mention the fact that Matterport has given zero love to service providers and has been pretty much trying to get rid of us altogether and turn us into their cheap labor force where they pocket all of the profits. It's a hideous business model and hopefully won't last long.
@immerse3sixty792

I also agree...If this camera came in a similar price to the Pro2 I would be all over it but the price tag is disgusting. The amount they charge for subscription is already high and then buying businesses that directly compete with who the product is for makes no sense. Not always, but sometimes, WiFi connection issues are caused by being within proximity of locations Matterport is restricted. As the support team suggested, installing the latest firmware will help resolve that issue. If you think it's possible the camera was active and even within several kilometers of a restricted zone, you should get as far away as possible from that area so the camera's GPS recognizes it's no longer even close to the restricted area. Have the camera outdoors with a clear view of the sky and turn it on. Leave the camera on for at least 10min so the GPS can properly identify its location. Then restart the camera and the WiFi should reactivate. Once you have a WiFi connection again, please process the firmware update. I hope that helps. For a list of restricted areas around the world, please reach out to the support team.

Just received my Pro3 yesterday. Absolutely love it, but one thing I want to know is, why why why on earth was the battery charger designed with a USB C plug on one end and a barrel plug on the other?!? Now I need to carry around another proprietarty cable, and if its every misplaced, I have to order a replacement from Matterport. I'm seriously annoyed and disappointed with this design flaw.
@Matterport
@Matterport Год назад
True, and as a consumer of electronic devices, I agree that is a bit annoying. The problem is a bit more complicated when it comes to anything related to charging a battery or powering a device. Higher voltage battery chargers very commonly use the barrel jack type connection. In our case, to deal with this common difference we created this cable which allows you to use any USB-C power brick you want as long as it’s 20V and 1.5A like for a laptop. Our cable has a jumper chip on the USB-C side to request 20V from the GaN charger, which is what keeps the brick non-proprietary. We wanted to offer the USB-C power brick in our kit so that it would be easy to use it to charge your tablet as well. It was a trade-off made in this case in particular. We are however continuing to improve the system and intend to have the USB-C connection integrated into the dock in the future.
