If I were you, I would have bought the 2020 Nissan Titan particularly the Baja Storm Pro4x. I know it's a Nissan as you mentioned it several times. But it still has the quality of a Japanese brand better than any American brand. You definitely wouldn't have the problems you had with your F150. Also, as per Scott Kilmer, never ever buy something that's turboed small engine to power a larger vehicle. For sure, it's going to have a very short lifespan. In contrast, the Titan has a V8 engine which is more solid. Since you don't do a lot of towing and just more of a daily drive but prefers a full sized truck, you'll be happy with the Titan.

My one personal F150 Ecoboost will soon be replaced with a Powerboost and the commercial fleet gets circulated when the accountant says it's time. Commercially, we look at GMC, Ford or Ram. I don't care which of them we go with for the firm. They've all been good dependable trucks and they get beat on, day in and day out by lugs who don't own them.

Shame you're experiencing these issues... I have a 2019 STX Supercab 2wd and had zero issues. I drive mostly highway and average close to the 26 on the trip computer which is usually about 1/2 to 3/4 over the actual, so a little over 25. I do live in rural coastal flat lands, where most highways are 55 mph. So, most of my driving is around 60. If I push it to 70 or above, I can watch the MPG computer drop quickly to the 23-24. So, I think anything over 65 is probably where the 2.7 (even with turbos) has to really work hard to push a giant brick through the air. At 70+ the trans will shift down to 7th or 8th to maintain that speed. Overall, I've been happy- hope your experience improves!

I actually got a solid 26 mpg at 78+ mph from Tulsa to Houston. Seems like it gets better mpg after using 3-4 tanks of gas, and all my figures were hand calculated, the lie-o-meter on the dash isn’t that accurate

Just bought a 2020 4x4 Tundra. I’ve done 2 pump to pump easy open road driving nothing over 65 mph and I’ve achieved 18.4 and 19.2. Now when I get into it I’m down to around 16 in a hurry. My 07 Tundra i traded in on this truck got decent mileage especially after getting some miles on it. (250k miles and only replaced the starter) Not sure why so many people dislike the Tundra? I’ve been in new Fords Chevys and Rams and besides the Ram I don’t feel the ride quality is any worse on my Tundra. I really like my 2020 and it’s definitely a different ride overall then my 07. Has plenty of power imo and is plenty techy for me. And I like the assurance when I’m hunting or fishing in the middle of nowhere I can count on my truck getting there and me back home.

If I drive my 2.7 under 65 I get the EPA mileage of 23-24. At 75 it's more like 20, which is to be expected. And though not trouble free my Fords have never left me stranded in 20 years of driving them. A 4Runner did, though. Twice. Go figure. The biggest problem I have with Tundras is the real world payload ratings...most 4x4 crew cabs are around 1200 pounds or less. And crash test scores are worst in class, that's important to me in a vehicle I haul my family around in.
@Jackmerius_Tacktheretrix
@Jackmerius_Tacktheretrix 3 года назад
@@plmn93 when the tundra came out it was best in class in crash tests, but vehicles have really gotten good over the last few years, the tundra just happens to be the oldest design. None of these vehicles are unsafe by any means though. Ford is the leader now. But go back and look at the 2001 tundra vs the 2001 f150. Its scary how bad the f150 and ram did. The 01 tundra mopped the floor with everyone on the crash tests.nit was the only truck that the cab didn't buckle on the offset test and the only one that the door could be opened, but that goes to show how far everyone has come since then. There's really no unsage pickups in today's world. Im willing to bet the redesigned 2022 tundra will be the truck to beat and then the big 3 will step it up, and in the end we the customers win.
@kross1261
@kross1261 3 года назад
rochab77 you’re exactly right. Back in 07 when I bought my first Tundra it blew by the domestic competition in almost every way. There would be comments you don’t need all that power in a 1/2 ton truck and so on. I feel the 07 Tundra took the competition by surprise and really made them step up their game. And yes it is now outdated to a degree but still by far the most reliable truck you can buy IMO. I suspect the 2022 will shake the 1/2 ton market again. But the competition is good for the consumer. I just don’t quite understand how some consumers won’t give the Tundra a chance especially after having so many bad experiences with their domestic truck.

@@kross1261 people in the pickup segment are brand loyalist. I love the tundra myself, especially the engine. No direct injection or cylinder deactivation crap. Just an honest v8 that makes its max torque at a lower rom than any other v8 in a half ton. And for those griping about tech, the only thing really missing is a 360 degree camera. It has lazer guided cruise control and toyota safety sense with autonomous braking standard, which some of the competitors do not even offer. You have GPS, never, a jbl sound system option, heated and cooled seats available and a huge back seat in the crew max, the largest brakes in a half ton, the only half ton with. 10.5 inch rear end and the only one with a 4.30 rear end. The Aisin 6 speed auto is bulletproof and never has any hiccups shifting, and doesn't gear hunt. It always kicks down when I want it to. Definitely thw best programming of any transmission I've driven in a pickup. People just don't like Japanese, amd some people are just flat out gullible amd have know knowledge or common sense. People say "oh my 2 year old sucj and such has 60,000 miles and no problems. Well, its only 2 years old. Time tells more than mileage. You could buy a 20 year old car with only 25,000 miles and I guarantee youll have more problems than you will on a 2 year old vehicle with 75,000 miles because things age amd materials degrade, especially plastics. I love the Tundra, but I bought a titan xd for the cummins and the extra towing stability because thw truck weighs as much as some 3/4 ton trucks and the job I bought it for would require hauking heavy cement heads. But if I were looking for a half ton I'd have gotten the tundra hands down. Where I worked prior qe had alot of f150s, some rams and some tundras. The guys hated thw tundras because they weren't made by the big 3, so they drove the shit put of them. They were surprised how well they held up. In fact, the tundras were the onlynhalf tons that never had to go to the dealer for any problems. Couldn't say the same for the others.

My cousin has a Nissan and its reputation with shitty transmissions eliminate them.Chevys don’t impress me with looks or drivetrain. Toyota’s have an excellent reputation for reliability but I don’t like the look of them and they don’t seem to discount like the big 3 will. I got a Silver XL Supercrew STX 4x4 with the 2.7 and my brother got the dark blue XLT Supercrew chrome package 2x4 also with the 2.7 in it. I've got about 2k miles on my truck, getting about 24mpg and it's been great so far. My brother's truck had the engine seize up at around 1200 miles. Ford is still trying to figure out what exactly happened, but a breaker bar couldn't turn the crank, at least one spark plug was "disintegrated" as the dealer said and that cylinder was black or burnt looking. But no oil leak or loss from what they could tell. My brother isn't happy, doesn't want the truck back (early indications show Ford likely replacing engine) and would prefer Ford buy it back, or the dealer step up and get him in something else.

Seems like higher octane gas west of Mississippi is scarce when out west vacationing. But it was good because I seen my drive distance increase substantially. I live in southern Ohio and never get over 600 miles to a tank of gas. I found your video to be more amusing as educational but your guest is colorful to say the least. He is right about the fact of the trucks being stupid quick. My truck runs like the old Lightning’s of years past. And that’s pretty good! And the temperature out west is horrible in the southern part. But it doesn’t have the humidity that we do here. I’ll have to go back and watch that review about towing that you talked of in video for sure.

I had a 2016 XL SCAB 2.7. Got it in the fall, and winter came a long and when near 0F it sometimes wouldn't start after sitting overnight. Battery was good, but it didn't even try to start, no click no anything. Trying to start it several times (like sometimes 20+ attempts) it would then all of a sudden come to life and start like there was never a problem. No one could figure it out, left it at the dealership for nearly a month while they looked at it. After a few more weeks of it occasionally happening (it would always eventually start on its own), the weather started to warm and it never happened again throughout the spring, summer, and even the following winter where it fell below 0 many times. Everyone's best guess was the starter solenoid had moisture in it and was freezing the contactor in place, but after several attempts, the solenoid coil windings was heating up enough to melt the ice and it would start. In any case, I wanted more features so I traded it in for a 2018 crew cab XLT with another 2.7. The XL had nothing, just AC and power windows. 40k miles on the 2018 and no issues yet.

So... in short, for those who didn’t want to watch, his F-150 had 3 well known, non mechanical issues that were all fixed under warranty with minimal hassle. Does it still suck? YES, geezus I hate going to the dealer for small crap too. But hey at least it isn’t the engine problem the Nissans are having. I also have a 2020 STX with the 2.7 and I anticipate having these cosmetic issues as well, but that’s what the warranty is for. I bought it for the bulletproof 2.7. Also, if you check the owners manual, it tells you that the gas mileage won’t level out until after the 1000 mile break in period. You said you were doing hand calculating which is good, because the computer mpg doesn’t factor out idling and such. There’s also an eco mode you can put the truck in, not sure if you were using that. I haven’t hit but 600 miles so far, but am averaging 21.4 according to the flawed computer measurement with mixed driving in normal and sport mode. Mine is a 4x4 as well which will affect it a bit. Once it’s more broken in, I will switch to eco mode and do my own calculations to get a better measurements. The biggest thing I don’t like about mine right now is the 10 speed. It is still in the break in period which I have read is brutal, but man the shifts when coming to a stop are just rough and jerky. It’s getting better slowly but surely, but man it sucks right now. I have hope only because the shifts during acceleration have leveled out and are now butter smooth. Overall it is a great vehicle, small issues aside. Just remember to temper your expectations, 40k is a lot of money, but it’s not that much in today’s market.

I don’t see any issues with this guys explanation / expectation of a new expensive truck, maybe a little long winded but he’s frustrated. I have been searching for months and bouncing in between all of them due to them ALL having issues. I read a lot of people that are ok with spending $40/$50/$60k+ for a truck that frankly isn’t reliable and yet, they are fan boys, oh it’s a truck, just top your oil up, have you seen how much oil a BMW uses, my 2003 Chevy has 300k miles etc. I appreciate this review and thank you for posting, anyone can fast forward or skip but a takes someone else’s dime to tell me everything I want to know.

I recently purchased a 2020 F150 XLT and 30days later the rear camera stop working, I have been waiting for a month for a replacement part. I have notice my dash on the passenger side popping up a bit near the dash Seems the rear camera is the number one issue on the TSB site for the 2020 model.

Sorry you having issues with 2.7 f150. I have one also but I have a lariat and I too has had minor issues with my door locks freezing up when it gets cold, my tailgate was doing the same also so I took it back for a 2nd time. So now I'm having problems again now with my tail lights taking in water when it rains hard. I was also having issues with my truck not getting it's mpg like they said it would, so started putting premium gas in it all the time. Still no better mpg, it was get like 14-16 mpg around town, like 18 mpg on the hwy. But the good news is after 1 year of driving it with almost 10000 miles on it, I'm now seeing like 19 mpg around town, and I'm getting like 31-32 mpg on the hwy now which speeds of 65 mpg. And that's in normal mode. So what I can tell you just give some time, cause seems to take it awhile to break it in

Thanks for your honesty , I was going to get f150 2.7L eco boost , but after what I heard from you I’m definitely out of the Ford’s market . I just simply can’t imagine spending around $60 plus for XLT package and have so many problems from the beginning , it’s absolutely unacceptable for me , I have 20 years old Lexus right now with no issues at all , nothing squeaks and my dashboard is in tact without any gaps , and I do live in hot state as well SC . I guess Ford will be Ford . Thanks again for honest feedback !

I bought a 2021 STX 2.7 ecoboost 4x4 supercab. Two years and 35,000 miles later and I've had zero issues so far.....knock on wood. I've also had good luck with the Ford app, I use it every day to remote start my truck and sometimes to unlock the doors, mine does have the sync 4 system. I drive about 70% highway 30% city and I've consistently averaged 21-22 MPG. So far I love this truck.
