Great review and well made and edited video! I don't have an ipad but I do have a wacom tablet and I'm colouring on an animation short film project... on Photoshop. (Damn layers keep extending lol) I do agree that is much easier to draw on a screen rather than on a pad waving your pen hand about (getting the hang of it) The features on Procreate look really good and convenient as you described. Like renaming layers by writing, reference windows, drag on drop fill in colour. Although, from your video I gathered that illustrations and simple storyboarding would be the way to go with this software overall and not full big productions. Great summed up review, mate.
Thanks! Oh yeah if you're not on iPad Photoshop is still the best app to use. Yeah I wouldn't recommend Procreate for complex animation, but it is great for other art! As for the drawing tablet, it does feel weird if you're not used to it yet, but I'm sure it'll feel more natural soon. I'd love to see the project once you're done btw! Is it going to be put online?
@@MovieMation You're welcome! Yeah I think Procreate needs to look into maintaining the resolution whilst re-sizing the image. That can be a deal breaker for some. Thanks for your interest, man! The director wants to put it to festivals, so hopefully you can see it somehow :D
I do have an iPad 8th Gen but mines is a 32GB. Maybe I should have spend an extra money for a 128GB one. I still will give Procreate a shot especially for my digital self portraits or portraits in general!
7:30 you actually have an option for that, i mean to avoid it... just Do NOT use bilinear or bicubic. and it keeps the resolution... you could also use it to do pixel art for print
Hi, great video! How much layers do you get from A4 600 dpi on the iPad 8th Gen? Also, is the drawing experience not too far from using an iPad pro? I've only tested the iPad pro and it was beyond great.
Thanks! When I checked it’s only saying 3 layers for A4 at 600dpi, if you think you’ll be using those settings it’s probably best to go with a higher end iPad. I haven’t personally tried out the Apple Pencil on the newer iPad Pro’s, but I don’t see that the experience would be too different, the Apple Pencil does still feel very responsive on this iPad. To know for sure though it might be worth searching up videos specifically comparing them both.
@@MovieMation "3 layers for A4 at 600dpi".... yet with my age old 5th gen ipad, it has 19 layers for those settings.... *why* (I thought the thing was supposed to be better)
Procreate is not vector based it worked on a pixel bases there it’s compatible with Abode photoshop not Adobe Illustrator. Procreate is not based on a mathematical program. So when resizing its going to be distorted
Hi, your video is really informative. I want to know whether I should go with 32 Gb or 128 Gb (going to using one only for DRAWING, ANIMATIONS) whether I should go for 128Gb so that I can work on a lot of layers. kindly pl suggest me pls
I think if you're going the animation route with lots of layer and will be making a lot it might be worth going with 128GB. You could probably manage with 32GB if you use cloud storage and things like that, but I think going with more storage will save some of the annoyance later on
Great video. I just got 32g 8th gen for procreate. Im was wondering do you think i will be ok with buying multiple brush sets and stamps? Im an upcoming tattoo artist and need designs on file.. will I be ok for being a beginner and be able to download a lot of stamp packs? I did not open it yet bcuz i wanted yo knw if i will be able to at least save some brush sets? Thanks.
Happy you liked the video! As far as I know, as long as they are Procreate or Photoshop brushes, they should work totally fine in Procreate. I imagine stamps should be fine too. Maybe check with the website first so you can be 100% sure
I don't know what resolution you would work at or how many layers you would use, but as long as you don't use massive resolutions or loads of layers this should work totally fine.
No it doesn't bother me at all while I'm regularly using it. The only time I really notice the gap is when looking at it from a side angle that I wouldn't ordinarily use it at
