I mean wilbur is *the star* in the band because of his popularity. Its a problem in most bands, the "main" member will be the most popular and recognized.
Saying it's Wilbur's band is one thing when you're explaining Lovejoy to somebody that has no clue about it is one thing, but it bugs me when people constantly just call it "Wilbur's band".
My favorite songs from the album: 1. Sex sells 2. Taunt 3. One day 4. Cause for concern (this song is getting better as I listen to it more maybe the placement will change)
yes i love how you brought up the “perfectly imperfect” idea within this kind of genre i’ve seen so many ppl get mad about that with songs in this kind of genre and it always annoys me because it’s supposed to feel imperfect when done right
I really hope that this EP reaches people who aren’t just Wilbur Soot fans. I hope Lovejoy in general reaches people. I absolutely love this EP, and while I am a huge fan of Wilbur’s, his music is just as incredible. Especially with the whole band who are even more talented all together! I feel like this is just music that anyone would enjoy in general. I can’t help but jam out and dance around to this EP, and I’m so excited to hear even more music to come from this band. I’m glad that I could be here from the beginning. 😌✨
@@Doctor_strange_ I’m pretty sure an album is longer, like 6-12 songs. An EP is shorter and has less songs. I think its around 3-5, but I’m bit entirely sure of the exact definitions. I hope that helped a little bit though :]
Because Wilbur Soot is different from Lovejoy, stans/fans should know how to separate the two and reply accordingly to the context. Yep, I'm glad they didn't mention anything :)
They are separate, yes a lot of Lovejoys fans (for know) know about it because Wilbur Soot but the band isn't just him. Also the fans will be more other people once the band has time. The EP hasn't been out long so its mostly just people who came because Wilbur (either because his music or his gaming)
Wilbur is really a genius tho, like he’s on top just behind dream and techno in the Minecraft community AND he makes incredible music that is super relatable
I’m from the Uk when you sing songs that already exist people tend to change their voice but if the song is British or they make it themselves it feels more natural Cus the accent is one thing but the way/ things people say is just in your brain good observation didn’t even think of that
British ppl dont sing naturally with an american accent, they usually change it to an american accent cause if they sing an american song in a british accent its gonna sound weird. Many british singers change their accent to an american accent when they sing because theyre trying to gain an american audience
@@kimberly6965 hm thats an interesting theory! ive always thought that it was because british people use short vowels when they speak, and american people use longer vowels. so when british people sing, they're lengthening their vowels which makes them sound american.
I think the lyric is one day the “fucking terrified” works not only cause of the songs style but because it’s a very “Wilbur” sounding line.? Not sure if that makes sense but he likes to do it a lot in him music and it kinda adds a charm that I like :)
Yeah, most of the rest of his songs are purely comedy :) i’m too lazy to respond to the rest of y’all but yes you are current, i somehow managed to forgot ycgma (my literal comfort album) and maybe i was boring exists lmaooo
Person: "Wow, you've written songs?" Wilbur Soot: "Yes I'm in a band called Lovejoy." Person: "Cool, do you do anything else or do you have any hobbies?" Wilbur Soot: "I am the antagonist in a Minecraft roleplay."
Wilbur has a solo song called ‘Soft Boy’ but he’s having trouble producing it, he’d be happy if any producer could jump in and help with it! He’s been stuck on it for months!
@@shawna4511 didnt he say in his music stream that (to this time he hadnt postet on RU-vid for about a month) that he'll come back with something big "maybe even Softboy"? (Idk but he had uploaded a video after this statement)
Once you mentioned that they could potentially have The Killers vibes, I realised why Cause for Concern felt so nostalgic to me and it's because the beginning sounds like Smile Like You Mean It by The Killers
Honestly, these songs are the only ones I can play on repeat without getting tired of them. I'll be drawing for 6 hours just to 'Are You Alright?' They're bangers!
Sameee! I got so inspired that i drew two fully colored illustrations while listening to all the songs on repeat. And i haven't had the inspiration to draw in like a month.
So glad no one's really mentioned specific things about Wilbur and his DSMP history. Yeah he's the lead singer but him and Lovejoy are separate things/content. Glad other fans of both Lovejoy and Wilbur himself understand this :)
reminder that it’s not wilbur’s band, it’s a band wilbur is in that also has his friends ash, joe, and mark! regardless that he is the lead vocalist because it’s a group thing, not wilbur and friends make music, it’s lovejoy makes music ^-^
Heyyyy sex sells is my favorite too! Let’s goo!!! I love the chorus like it just absolutely slams. Every “oh fuck that” just has a different vibe for me. Like when I sing it (admittedly poorly) I feel like it could have a sad feel, a sense of resignation, an angry tone, or an annoyed tone. It’s just so beautiful. And the “how’s it feel” bridge. Agh I could go on and on.
Wilbur has a song thats in progress called Softboy, but he's been stuck with it and he's said that if any prodfucers reached out to him he'd be happy to work with them to get the song done, and id dm the bands twitter if you do anything
The thing I really love about this album and the music videos they’ve released so far is you can tell they all had so much fun making it- you can hear Wilbur smile while he’s singing and it’s so infectious- you want to get up and dance around and just have a good time.
Perfectly imperfect is exactly the word to describe the genre he’s going for, I feel like if the melodies and blending was perfect the music wouldn’t hit the same, This whole ep is just the Definition of like a long car ride as the sunsets just screaming music, it’s such a specific but perfect feeling
I mean, if you want him to guest vocal he is looking for someone to help with his song 'soft boy' as he's hit a wall. Could be a win win situation if you approach it correctly.
I think a somewhat unappreciated member of the "streamers who happen to also be musicians" group of people is SUGR? because he doesn't really keep any overlap so its a fun suprise to jump from his Steven Suptic content to just very good music:)
It's so odd because LoveJoy sounds like a love child of so many bands I listen to; We are Scientists mixed with some She Wants Revenge. Some Killers with a hint of The Smiths and for some reason I get slight depeche mode vibes. Sex Sells 100% gives me She Wants Revenge tear you apart vibes with the guitar at some parts
Honestly, love the fact they manage up push, "fuck-ing in-con-sistent" as a lyric, by styling it as something similar to a British sport chants... just, you can observe notable draws from the culture that produced it, being woven into the music...
I absolutely love the band and I think the guitarist and drummer are also really talented, everyone only talks about Wilbur and he is wildly talented but the whole band is honestly amazing at what they do. As an indie and punk fan this is honestly one of my favorite bands regardless if I watch Wilbur
i love all of the artists but i think people mostly mention wilbur is because. 1 hes a big streamer and music artist on his own and 2 hes the main vocalist 3 in most music they use fake drums and shit (idk how that works) and they use people playing instruments
As a kid who really really REALLY wants to become a musician and loves learning about music theory as well as someone who is a big fan of Wilbur, I loved this video!! I loved you explanations and that everything wasn’t too complicated nor too simplified. Cant wait to watch more!!
My daughter is a huge LJ fan. She played it for me. The frantic nature of it and vocally it reminds me of Ok Go’s first album. It’s nice to hear kids writing real music.
I really appreciate the reaction you did! Personally I think this ep is perfect the way it is, just because it kind of shows their charm as a band if you get what I mean? It's imperfectly perfect and the band is too and I really like that about it! Anyways, great video as always :)
loved this review! thank you for your honesty. i’m obviously a huge fan of lovejoy, but it’s really refreshing seeing an honest review that highlights strengths AND addresses areas to improve. because nothing is perfect, after all!
Ok, but watching him react to it for the first time made me smile so much because that's literally how I reacted for the most part- But I wasn't no pro so I was just jamming the whole time instead of reviewing it 😅
I'm kind of a Wilbur fan but didn't know about Lovejoy, it kinda just showed up in my recommended. The horns definitely helped hook me lol, I think almost everything sounds better with horns :P
If you wanna Collab with Wilbur the best bet is to message the band on twitter(not his own account cuz he doesn't use it) or follow his twitch Wilbur Soot,
God, Lovejoy is so good that I put there EP in one playlist and put in on loop. I cant stop listening to it, it’s so addicting. Lovejoy is officially my new favorite band.
Great Video! I was wondering if you could react to Lemon Demon its also a band started by Neil Cicierega. Neil actually created Potter Puppet Pals, The Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiney, Brodyquest, and actually made some demos for the intro of Gravity Falls! But Lemon Demon is a synth-pop/sifi type genre that has some super good funky songs! I suggest reacting to his Album Spirit phone and the songs Ancient Aliens, Eight Wonder, Cabinet Man, and Touch-Tone Telephone. Some other songs like Modify from View-Monster album or one of my personal favorites Aurora Borealis!
One Day and Cause for Concern are my personal favorites, but they both also sound like songs you'd hear in the credits of a YA movie or tv show, especially Cause for Concern.
