ash (the bassist) really outdid himself for this ep. the bass is probably my favorite part throughout the entirety of the ep, you can see how much the band has improved since the last time. I can say that my one and only critique is that I wish that the vocals were pushed a little bit more forward in some of the songs. still it’s already going to be on the top of my spotify wrapped. :)
it’s all futile is such a good song, it was originally a song from Wilburs album “Maybe I Was Boring”. It’s one of my fav songs and the fact that it’s so well remade makes me really happy.
14:54 - Yeah absolutely, What i love most about pebble brain (there are many things I love about pebble brain) is how clearly these songs are meant to be performed live. Like, it’s built in that these songs are meant to be performed in front of - and with - people. The claps, the call and response sections in “perfume” and “the fall”, the messy background vocals as you hear the band mucking about in the studio, the sheer frantic energy of it all. You can just imagine them going ham in a uni bar and everyone having a blast. The music grabs you and it doesn’t let you go. Even alone in your room, you’re going to be dancing and singing along and I love that. Community, experiencing and making music together, is built into the very fabric of this album’s construction on a molecular level, and I love that.
YES im so ready for when live performances can be done freely cause whenever wilbur talks about performing these songs live he's always so excited :'))
fun fact: they wanted to scrap perfume but wilbur’s friend tommy told him to keep it in! tommy is also the one who yells a.m. in the first verse :) jk ive been informed that im literally wrong 😭 tommy had the idea to yell am in the song lol
@@astridarge3750 it could be both. From what I know and also when I've been to some song recordings, people sometimes record multiple people yelling or screaming some backing vocals and then just master it sound the way it sounds. I could also be wrong cause I wasn't there when they recorded it, but the thought of Tommy screaming it is just awsome.
the moment in concrete where wilbur says, “the people on the nightbus have to LISTEN TO YOU” is my absolute favorite part of the ep, i always replay it whenever i’m listening to concrete 💀
I WASNT THE ONLY ONE OMG!!! It does for me too!! Like everytime I listen to it, I can’t not think about it. Maybe they might have sampled it? Maybe it’s just similar? Maybe it’s just the right feel with the right bpm but WHO KNOWS lol
two little fun facts about pebble brain: 1) wilbur was originally going to cut 'perfume' from the tracklist but a close friend (and younger brother figure), who online goes mainly by tommyinnit, proclaimed it was his favorite and vouched for it to be kept in 2) 'it's all futile! it's all pointless' was a remake of one of wilbur's old songs from a mix titled 'maybe I was boring' and prior to writing this ep (idk if his opinion has changed) it was his favorite song that he'd ever written p.s: if you could, I think it would be cool for you to react to wilbur's old music, like 'maybe I was boring' and 'your city gave me asthma'
Mark on the drums was honestly incredible and ash with the bass really shined in this album. Of course joe and Wilbur did amazing in this album and I’m so glad on how u reviewed it. Actually fun fact about the last song was it was an redo on Wilbur’s only song It’s all Futile. It’s all pointless in his old album maybe I was boring so it was crazy on how much they improved. I’d highly recommend looking back on Wilbur’s old version of iafiap and comparing it to this new one
my favourite thing about my favourite things i like to listen to is the ✨lack of autotune✨ just a more natural sound and less things created digitally. computers can do a lot but nothing beats the real sound of a band
"you'll understand when you're older" isn't alot of people's favourite. but I love it so much, it deserves alot more recognition! I'M SO HAPPY ITS YOUR FAVOURITE! that makes me really happy :D
TIMESTAMPS :3 2:18 - oh yeah, u gonna cry? 6:37 - model buses 12:05 - concrete 16:32 - perfume 20:38 - u’ll understand when ur older 26:19 - the fall 30:10 - it’s all futile! it’s all pointless!
CAN WE PLEASE TALK ABOUT THE FALL, first of all it sounds so much more different than the rest of the album, I can’t quite describe it, it sounds like it has a deeper meaning to it , like some what darker. I just love it sooooo much , just imagine it during a concert 🙄🖐
i really like it cause it feels like an 'eat the rich' anticapitalist song, but its from the pov of the rich. there are a few lines that indicate that the pov is also a blue party politican. its all very cool.
I believe the meaning is about a cliff near Brighton called "beachy head" its a beautiful white cliff but it also is the uk's highest suicidal spot, I've been there, its nice but not many know how many people have taken their life there
During "The Fall" all I could think of was "Fake Tales of San Francisco" by Arctic Monkeys. The call and response, the drums and especially the build in the later half of the song.
That's funny that you mentioned this because Lovejoy have made 2 playlists in which they listed all the songs they listened to when making "Pebble Brain" and "Are you alright ?" and "Fake Tales of San Francisco" is in the "Are you alright?" playlist !
Wilbur has said multiple times that los campesinos is his favorite band and is the main inspiration for lovejoy. Although I do think that you are right in saying it sounds a lot like say anything
There's something about Lovejoy's music that I don't understand. The first time that I hear new music from them I don't like it that much, but the more I hear it, the more I like it
SAME like at first i thought that wilbur’s music was terrible but then i decided to give it another try and the more i listened to it the more i loved it! i think that happens for a lot of songs with me lol
Omg geniuenly same, my friend showed me some of theirs songs a while ago and i didnt like any but after i listened to sex sells a few times more i fell in love with it and all of their other songs followed.
when i first listened to “are you alright” i wasn’t into it at all, but then i listened to it again a few weeks later, and i fell in love with sex sells and one day. when “pebble brain” came out, i listened to it on repeat, and now i’m dying to hear their next EP or album
The Fall is probably my favourite in this EP, in a close fight with Oh Yeah, You Gonna Cry? or It’s All Futile! It’s All Pointless! Edit: god Will likes his long titles edit: screw you my favourite is now The Fall
Nothing compared in length to a song by los campesinos called “this is how you spell, HAHAHA, we destroyed the hopes and dreams of a entire generation of faux-romantics”
i think with wilbur's voice, he has a great chest voice, obviously a great falsetto but his head voice is beyond description. it just sits right and the way the rest of the band just almost fall in line behind wilbur lovejoy should be the next top band with ep's like this and 'are you alright' compared to modern music easily contender for best indie band of all time
I love how the songs are rearranged as well - it starts off so punk rock and then the meaning of the songs become sadder and sadder. IDK abt u but I really like that
Fun fact: I’m currently listening to “oh yeah, you gonna cry?” and I have been since it came out in a loop. Only god came save me. Commitment is real _safe to say I’m addicted_
3 minutess in and I'm glad you talked about the more punk vibe the EP gives out, it's what made me love it even more as that was the one thing I would've changed with the first EP.
Same,at first I wanted to just skip to the fall but I really wanted that buildup to the fall because it's so different from the rest of the ep and unexpected but still blends in with the rest of the songs very well
the ep has been out for 2 days and I've already memorized all the lyrics to half the songs my favorites 1. oh yeah you gonna cry 2. perfume 3. model buses
I don't know if you are aware but 'Its all futile its all pointless' is a remastered version of an old wilbur song called "its all futile its all pointless"
@@chastidydunn1404 one time he made an ep (?) titled "maybe i was boring" and the last song in it is "its all futile its all pointless". but in this ep, they remade the song into an absolute banger
@@bananapisz yes, i know that. The person in the comment said "its all futile its all pointless" was remastered in "its all futile its all pointless" i was just confused.
leaving this here for myself whenever i randomly come back lmao 2:18 - oh yeah, u gonna cry? 6:37 - model buses 12:05 - concrete 16:32 - perfume 20:38 - u’ll understand when ur older 26:19 - the fall 30:10 - it’s all futile! it’s all pointless! its all futile its all pointless was my favourite in his old album and how hype it is in this album makes me love it infinitely more
I've been watching peoples reactions mainly to see their reaction to the fall and this one...didn't expect a reaction for the chorus part honestly. The reaction was probably cause of the different instrument change. YOU LITERALLY START CATJAMMING- I usually watch the fall for the breakdown in it and to see reactions for that bit. Beautiful reaction :D
fact: they made a playlist of songs thy listened to while writing the ep like good kid, delta sleep, the wombats, two door cinema club, ttng, los campesinos!
fun fact (besides the fact that ash and mark are the greatest) It's all futile! it's all pointless! was a revamp of a song he posted awhile back and listening to them back to back is like listening to someone heal and become happier is so cool
I feel like Wilbur's vocals get buried by the rest of the instruments in a LOT of the tracks, but it doesn't seem to on their previous EP? It just seems like it's lower in the mix half the time, to the point where I have to read lyrics on some of the tracks to understand them???
@@juliaklaassen2247, I was actually mad about that when I was listening to pebblebrain. Will was noticeably softer, and in the first EP I thought his vocals were at a good volume level.. Pebblebrain is still an amazing EP, but people really did not need to complain about the volume in Are You Alright
It’s such a small thing but I just love the inclusion of the trumpets. It’s such a unique bit in their songs and it always sounds grout especially having them sound in the background, not necessarily front and centre but way in the back and it just sounds so awesome.
The entire band are really close. They all went to see Hamilton with a bunch of Wilbur’s friends. Tommy (one of Wilbur’s friends) has said that he loves the members of the band. I think that is amazing
Their new cover of Crywank’s “Privately Owned Spiral Galaxy” has a lot of that screaming you were anticipating. I also really enjoyed the breakdown at the end of that track, I think you’d have a nice time analyzing it 👍
the cat is a catjam, its a streamer thing xD also on the best and oldest song technially. i loved that wilbur chose to redo it cause it sounds amazinggg and its my favourite xD
seeing you react to model buses the way i did makes me so happy, its my favorite song. joe is fucking amazing and the drums are why i adore that song so much dude. the bass throughout the other songs is also sososo good, ash is so amazing and talented ahhhh
There is actually a live session of Wilbur singing his band's songs with him and only his guitar on Twitch which is a livestreaming app/website, incase if Blake doesn't know this yet!
I've watched the MV for Concrete and I couldn't stop laughing but feeling second hand embarrassment! I SWEAR!! Him just trotting in the bar and chaos and being thrown out by security just made me laugh and cover my face from embarrassment- T^T he HAD to be drunk PLEASE!! FEAR LORD PLEASE!
I did not come up with this, but I saw a comment that could not have said it better: Lovejoy feels like a messy room where you know where everything is.
I’ve been listening to Lovejoy since just after their first ep was released (thats when I started watching the Dream SMP, watching Wilbur’s streams and found about about Lovejoy through him) and I genuinely love their music so much it just makes me happy immediately when I listen to this ep and I can already tell if they ever do gigs or concerts the atmosphere there will be INSANE 🤍
I haven’t fully watched but I’m so excited for his take on the fall it’s my absolute favorite and unique Edit after he’s listened to the fall: the call and response mark was adorable, also the tension buildup 🤩, THE PART, his reaction to it was the best!!! YAY!!!!!
They really outdid themselves with this EP, i love all the songs because even though some of them have really different vibes from eachother, they work so well together!! I am very happy that you enjoyed it aswell :)
okay, ill be honest this was just in my recommended and I only watched it bc of Lovejoy, but genuinely this dude is so cool. Like I love all the stuff I learned from this and he seems like such a nice person, idk it made me smile
Wait is “You’ll Understand When You’re Older” really the least popular song on the EP? I thought it was by far one of their most cohesive and put-together songs. I guess it’s not as funky or experimental as their other songs on the EP, but I feel like they perfectly blended every aspect of their band’s best elements in the song, whereas the other songs had their fair share of good elements and slightly subpar elements (production-wise at least). Kinda sad seeing that not many people like it as much as the others. I hope that doesn’t dissuade them from making similar ones to it in the future.
@@catcactus1234 all theyre songs were fantastic but throughout all the diverse opionions id seen youll understamd when re older had not been mentioned as much, but that's just what I've seen
dude this is why i love these videos so much. i can always tell exactly what you're about to say before you say it, even if it's not something i noticed the first time. like that one part in You'll Understand When You're Older, i picked up on the feedback, which i didn't hear originally, and like three seconds later you pointed it out. your smile all throughout the video is contagious. i can tell you really enjoy hearing new music and picking it apart. it's awesome to see the band being analyzed by such an amazing mind. plus your reaction to the catJam at the end was so funny. love to see it
You should definitely react to Good Kid. Lovejoy was inspired by a few of their songs when making Pebble Brain. I can't express how good all their songs are. They have two albums, and they're DMCA free too!
this album gives me intense sims 3 create a sim vibes. if it was just the instrumentals (especially for model buses and yuwyo) it sounds so much like old sims soundtracks. brings me back to being a kid again. :'>
I was so happy when you said that Perfume might be your favourite. It almost didn't make it into the album but Tommyinnit insisted that they put it in.
