I don't know if you're still interested in knowing but Yubin said that the reason she chose this concept because WG did American retro so she wanted to try Asian retro

she didn't want to do girl crush or rap concept cuz she knew that ppl expect she will do that concept, that's why she chose to do sth completely different from ppl expect, I've been wonder girls' fan for 10 years, I really happy that she did the retro concept it remind me of old day of wonder girls, this concept is city-pop, but bc this of concept, the song got attacked from knets too 😭 but it's also introduced many ppl to city-pop, I really want to know what concept she will do next

Sadly only this track is gonna be released. Her b-side had copyright issues with Mariya Takeuchi's "Plastic Love", so they had to scrap it entirely. Really bummed about that because Yubin looks and sounds so great in this concept. I don't think this charted that well, but City pop is gradually gaining popularity. RU-vid recommendations revitalized that genre, especially speaking from first-hand experience because it was recommended to me almost a year back now. Hopefully Yubin doesn't get discouraged from continuing her solo career because I loved everything about her debut. Wasn't into K-pop early enough to appreciate the Wonder Girls, but I've become a fan of all of their solos now.

Shame it didn't do well. I would so trade a city pop revival in exchange for tired trop house.

As an Asian growing up in the 90s, I agree. I watched the anime and movies that my older brother grew up with while my dad listened to similar music. Even though I never grew up in the 80s, this music video made me nostalgic about an era I didn't actually grow up in, hahahaha

I really loved the retro style that WG had, so I really loved this too. Sadly uncultured young kids were unable to appreciate it (I'm joking but not really). I'm not that old and I'm not Asian but this also gave me lots of nostalgia. I can totally imagine my mom dressed up like that while singing and dancing.

as someone who LOVES old japanese music for no absolute reason i listened to this song everyday for days. i love wonder girls, i love all of the solo work that came out, so the fact that this is a wonder girls member AND a retro song ,,,,, god i fell in love.

I constantly wonder whether you were going to react to Yubin or not since I knew you would be surprised and would be into the concept and analyze the cinematography aspect of the music video! It's an interesting concept that nobody in K-pop industry can pull but Wonder Girls. Yubin herself said that because she's a rapper and always has this girl-crush aura, she knew people would expect her to do girl-crush concept, but after long discussion and thorough contemplation(?) she decided this is the concept that's the best for her. Yubin herself is actually kinda feminine so I didn't really surprised by her decision, but still, the executions for the song and the video are so beautiful they still can surprise us!

I love this song and mv so much, I hope Yubin doesn't get discouraged by the lack of response from the public :( this is a really interesting route she took and I'd like to see her explore it more, after all she was really involved in the REBOOT album production and omg that was an ALBUM.

Would you expect anything less form a RETRO QUEEN WONDER GIRL? It’s amazing I love this track, she went so far beyond what was expected of her and went out of her depth with a pure vocal performance. I get such Uhm Jung Hwa vibes

The voice she was doing during the song is super interesting. Most female city pop singers I’ve heard have this deeper voice and I think she also has it. It really makes the song feel like it came right out of the 80s!

I was born in 2001 but man do i love Japanese, korean, and hongkong 80's stuff. It feels nostalgic even though I've never felt it before

YUBIN did a lot of thinking about her solo debut concept. She wanted to do something unexpected since people expecting her to do rap song/girl crush vibe. This song portrays her maturity really well. I love her nevertheless. This song is a bop. Btw, YeEun Wonder Girls been producing solo stuffs actively as singer-songwriter HA:TFELT too. Check her out!

I love Japanese city funk pop like Mariya Takeuchi's Plastic Love or If's Silver Rain. This song is very much my style. It's unfortunate the other songs were copyrighted by that very artist.

You’re wrong actually - the point about Yubin being the one of the only members of Wonder Girls to put out solo work - Yeeun debuted under the stage name HA:TFELT a few years ago while Wonder Girls was still a 5-member group. I believe Sunmi debuted before Yeeun, so really Yubin is the third member to debut as a solo artist.

I find it hilarious and simultaneously extremely attentive to detail that the name of the song is "Lady" and in the opening scene Yubin is driving an early 80's Nissan "FAIRLADY" Z, an obvious tribute to Japan with even the correct JDM steering wheel placement and the correct lane of travel for that Country. Of course here in The States marketers shunned the name "FAIRLADY" and gave them #'s... 240Z; 260Z; 280Z; 300Z, etc. So if you're from the USA and not into JDM cars you mightn't catch the detail.

After a couple listens, Lady grew on me a lot. Especially after watching all her live performances and Dance Practices. Whatever Yubin wants to do, I'm there for her. I recommend her 2x Dance Practice in the new JYP studio. I'm going through the Wonder Girls back catalog to learn more about her, because I got into Kpop after they disbanded. I've been trying to learn a decades worth of Kpop in the past three months and my head is swimming. I don't even know what City Pop is, but if this is it I like it.

Even though I was brought up in a different country, this one is still hit me hard :) love it so much. Really happy ,that nowday's entertainers trying to break that idol system. Besides underground hip-hop and indie musicians) there was a gap in K-pop for some years, but now , all of this Awesomeness made me to come back for it :)
