The correct pronunciation is "AG-you-la" (don't drag out the "you" too long!), and Aguila has been manufacturing ammunition in Mexico since 1961. Aguila may not be the best-known maker of .22 rimfire ammo YET, but according to Brownells Gun Tech™ Caleb Savant, they make excellent quality fodder for your .22 rifles, revolvers, and pistols. With a second factory now on line in Texas, Aguila manufacturers everything in their ammunition EXCEPT the powder in house, so they have near total control over the finished ammo's quality. Aguila manufacturers ALL types of ammunition, including rimfire, centerfire rifle and handgun loads, and shotshells. They have military and law enforcement customers all around the world. All of Aguila's .22 rimfire ammo is manufactured to Olympic match ammo standards, with extremely clean-burning powder. They offer a large variety of .22 loads, including the Super-Extra .22 Long Rifle with 38 grain CPHP (copper-plated hollow point) bullets featured here.

I often use their top tier stuff for competition and competition practice. I’ve recently had two catastrophic issues with Remington freedom buckets of .22lr. Chain detonated in my Mode 17 and shot my crane and blew my extractor out on my blinged up Buckmark. The 17 needed a good scrubbing but was otherwise fine although my cheek and hand were smacked up good from the barricade splash back. However the Buckmark blew out its extractor and I’m changing the recoil and buffer as well because of the forceful recoil. Im actually looking for a new plinking ammo and my local shop has done some testing and they claim Aguila is the best bang for the buck if you are reasonably accurate, (far less fliers and very consistent velocity, up there with CCI and there precision ammo is definitely better in my guns, except my Model 41 which loves CCI Quiet and Standard).

In Mexico growing up, Aguila was the only brand we knew. You could only register .22’s or shotguns with a certain length so it was really the only ammo we could purchase. We hunted everything with .22. For birds and small game we would use the original copper-plated type, but for deer and boar we would use the “gray” ones, which were flat and with higher grain I believe. Hunting with shotgun was too risky due to military roaming around everywhere as well as most being too hard to register. That plus the fact that ammo was quite expensive too
@nk-dw2hm
@nk-dw2hm 2 года назад
You were shooting deer and boar with 22? What distance typically? Seems pretty unethical to use such a small caliber on big game, when there's a high chance you'll just wound it
@catcola1061
@catcola1061 2 года назад
@@nk-dw2hm yes, hunting big game with .22 is something I would never do now, but over there that’s just how things were. Again, we couldn’t have any higher calibers and everyone was too poor to afford legal 12 gauge shotguns or even buckshot. And when having to choose between going hungry or possibly just wounding an animal, the choice was obvious, but we also never shot unless we knew for a fact that we had a good shot. Distance was always around 20-30 yards so that wasn’t a hard thing to do. We would camp on top of trees with hammocks next to ponds, so we waited for them to get water.

@nk-dw2hm
@nk-dw2hm 2 года назад
@@MellowFellowOfYellow no matter how hungry you are you need to be thinking about ethics before taking any shot. If you're more likely to wound the animal than cleanly kill it you shouldn't take the shot. I think most hunters would agree with that. I "liked" his reply, because he answered my questions about distance. I hope I never have to attempt to take a boar or deer with a 22lr, but I'm glad he was taking that into consideration and trying to minimize the distance

@@nk-dw2hm I think spoiled people who have never went hungry and have always had a grocery store to rely on would agree with you, as far as the majority of humanity throughout all of history they would say your a fool. Yes by modern standards a clean ethical kill matters, if your playing by the laws of nature then anything goes. You don’t see no lions waiting to make sure they have a 100% kill rate, when it’s kill or starve it’s the laws nature not man that matter.

Good information...with the exception of pronunciation part at the beginning. I've got plenty of Texas friends that pronounce it wrong, but we all know what we're talking about. So I wouldn't otherwise nitpick, but you brought up the "correct" thing, so here ya go... I'm a South Texas boy, which gives me a leg up on speaking Spanish anyway, I suppose, but I also lived as a boy in Puerto Rico, and learned to speak Spanish there. I can tell you that your "correct" pronunciation would be considered incorrect by Hispanics and Spanish-speakers everywhere. You're right about the accent falling on the first syllable. but the "ui" diphthong doesn't produce a "you" sound or a "w" sound. The Spanish pronunciation is A-gee-la. (Note: the second syllable has a hard "g" sound, not soft, like the English interjection "Gee.")

In Mexico, this is the most commonly available ammunition manufacturer by far. There are odd stipulations with Mexican law, hence Aguila makes (and clearly labels) 7.62 NATO vs .308 and others, for example. The box art is perhaps the highest quality I have ever seen, with even holographic print the entire length of a side of a box, but the ammunition I've not found to be overly accurate though. But it is neat being able to support fellow Mexican business.

Maybe they answer their American phonelines with that pronunciation, but aguila is the Spanish word for ‘eagle.’ I am fluent in Spanish, and it is my wife’s native language, so I will continue to pronounce it correctly, “A-geel-a”, with the letter A’s pronounced like “uh”. @@CalebSavant Since you stated clearly that you were pronouncing it correctly, I believed that you had talked to them. That’s why I said “they may answer their phones that way”. However, it seems sad to me that they feel that they have to anglicize their own company name to appeal to American ammo shoppers; at least that’s how it looks to me. They use Spanish words in their products, too, or at least one of them. I’m a huge fan of their Colibri powderless quiet 22LR ammo. Colibri means hummingbird, which is a great name for that product. Heck, I like all their products, a lot. I meant it when I said that their Super Extra has become my go to HV 22LR. Not because of price, but performance. Have you ever removed a bullet from one of their 22LR cartridges? Their primer compound is very thick. I believe that is part of what makes them so reliable. I may buy a small box and test it myself, and there is always the Ruger 10/22 which seems to shoot most everything.

I haven't used this yet but us their 150 gr. .7.62/.308 a lot. It is good, reliable ammo. They have crimped primers.

Aguila is giving federal (cci) a true run for their money. I’ve only had great experiences with Aguila. And the colibrí are too fun!

I've used the 45acp 230 grain and 22lr cprn ammunition, never a problem.

I expect Caleb to get the pronunciation correct. He presents himself with a standard of correctness that I really appreciate.

That's all I buy anymore. I have used the 38 and the 40. I have stuck with the 40, but for no particular reason. I use it at Project Appleseed events and it provides excellent accuracy and reliability.

I bought two boxes to give them a try and had no issues whatsoever so I went back to the store and bought 2,000 rounds so my kids and I can plink.

Funny timing on this video. Just got a new ruger 10/22 a couple weeks ago and aguila is the only ammo that had a hiccup so far. Had feeding issues that caused the bullet to get mangled. It only happened a few times, but only with that ammo. No issues with remington, norma, cci or federal out of it yet.

I've ran thousands of rounds of Aguila over the years. Recently got some 22mag that when fired, the primer pocket cups outward and jams up one of my revolvers from advancing. It is a visible deformation. Only happens with the new 22mag from Aguila.

I love the Aquila Super Extra, but holy smokes does it smell terrible when shooting 😂 I mostly stick to CCI just to avoid the smell

I have been using the Ammo for about 6 months and after a day at the range when I break down my 22's there is hardly any gun powder residue to clean. You are right good ammunition. You will find it accurate as well. My worst experience was Remington rimfire buyer beware.
