You need food to survive. So your body has built-in mechanisms that encourage you to eat. That is a good thing. However, in this world where high-calorie, low-nutrient foods are available 24/7, it is easy to breeze past survival and overeat. Over time, you can develop conditions that impact your appetite.
However, for this video, we'll focus on the built-in eating mechanisms that are programmed into each and every one of us and provide you with a few simple tweaks that will allow you to survive and thrive in our modern world without overeating.

My take-aways are: - Don‘t start. It is easier to fast than to eat just a little bit. - Sweets make you hungry. - Reduce the number of decisions you habe to make: Eat a Salat for lunch every day.

My wife still fails to understand that I’m ok not eating especially when we are someplace that has nothing I want. Like at the ballpark where I’m not paying 14 bucks for a burger patty. It’s awesome not being hungry anymore since I gave up junk and carbs over 3 years ago.

It's absolutely true. It's easier to fast than to try to just eat a little bit. I skip dinner most days because I'm an after dinner snacker so problem solved. I don't understand why so many fasting proponents advise skipping breakfast instead of skipping dinner.
@gracegirl3

Depends on the family dynamic. I was raised where dinner is very important family time where everyone shares what happened to them during the day and bonds. In the mornings, no one bats an eye when you are groggy and only drink a few cups of black coffee before work lol.
@korgond
@korgond 2 года назад
Skipping breakfast is better. Because when you wake up, you're already in fast almost 10 or 12 hours. By skipping breakfast you can easily extend your fasting to 15 hours. Plus, you can reach to 18 or 20 hours by skipping lunch as well. Have only dinner and you can be super healthy

I know this is true. As soon as I start eating, I find it hard to stop. My challenge is to change from grazing to eating larger meals and to stop snacking in-between meals. I've learned how bad snacking is but it's hard to break this lifelong habit.

Absolutely love your videos Dr. Becky❣️ Would really enjoy more videos regarding the psychological as well as physical triggers that mess with out dieting. As a Type 2 Diabetic I went low carb to lower my A1C. 1.5 years later I’m pleased to say my doctor has marked my file as “Maintained Through Diet”. Seemingly without trying I lost 50lbs. with intermittent fasting and going low carb. I however am at a plateau though I would like to lose more. I realize that it’s a lifetime of psociological and physical stumbling blocks that are keeping me at this point and further changes need to be made.

Great vid. My downfall is potlucks or "free" food at work. Yesterday, I passed a jar of candy in 2 places at my work and did not reach in. Progress, not perfection, right? I have been on (and off) keto/low-carb for years and after several 1-day binges (emotional eating after a loss), I'm back on. I will be going to a potluck in a month; I'm bringing deviled eggs and a cheese tray. I'm hoping to stay away from carbs that day and show myself that I can do it. I would avoid the potluck, but I'm a guest speaker, so no out for this one. Fingers crossed! Thank you Dr. G. You're fabulous!

Being Italian, I grew up with huge portions (I could eat until 30's) and seconds were almost mandatory with many meals. The joke was while your mom/aunt/gram was asking, the food was in the plate. We set up habits so young with our children, not meaning to do harm, but the habits stay especially in stress, even when you know better. You really need to reset and your programs helped me a lot but the wires are still there, I just do much better, but not perfect.

Dr. Becky mentioned that it's actually better to fast in between meals and 'ride out your hunger' than to grab a snack... is this true for ALL snacking or just for unhealthy snacking? In other words, if you grab a small healthy snack like a handful of grapes or some almonds, would that be a decent thing to do to hold yourself off until your next meal, or should you skip even these kinds of snacks altogether and wait it out until the next meal?

I started Intermittent Fasting in March 2021 because I was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease and I wanted to lessen the strain on my kidneys. As someone who ate all the time, night or day, fasting was actually easier than I thought it would be. Fasting provides structure and freedom because you're either eating during your eating window or fasting...there's no in-between. After seven weeks of IF I added KETO because I wanted to lose weight faster. I've now lost 71 pounds and I'm still doing IF and KETO. As someone who had absolutely no control over eating, IF has helped me tremendously. I wish that I had known about it 10 years ago.

It’s because they inherit their parents gene that has no stop to overeating. I had slim parents and we were served what my mother thought was enough. The stomach never extends so as an adult I eat a feasible amount that allows me to live and have enough energy to work. Anymore food I just can’t eat! My children are the same. I notice my fat friends are bottomless! So are their parents.
