In previous videos I've been asked in comments to show how to program radios/handhelds in Chirp. So in this video, I show you how to program a single simplex frequency and a repeater into your radio via the Chirp program.
Sometimes radio programming can seem a daunting task but hopefully this video will simplify most of what's actually needed in programming up a radio.
Chirp download: www.danplanet.com
Hope the video is of some help and use.

Hey there, If I have a series of repeater frequencies and they have a tx and rx- offset and the way that these series of repeaters is set up is: there are 'tone districts' in other words, the tx and rx work on many different coloured repeaters and the tines are only a set of 6 districts. so we set channel(frequency) then we switch tones depending on which district of the 6 we are in. Question: how do I program the Baofeng uv82 in the freq list as it appear I have to assign a tone for each freq? is there an area where we store another bank of 'switchable tones' as for use in this case and leave the associated tone filed in the feq list blank? thanks so much!
@OnTheMicwithMike
@OnTheMicwithMike 3 года назад
I must admit I’m not familiar with it, as to be perfectly honest I don’t really use repeaters myself. I’m not quite sure that is at all possible especially on a Baofeng. But maybe someone can shed some more light on the subject for you.

Does CHIRP have the capability to import local data to make programming your radio easier? Many of the frequencies published to my area do not include some of the needed bits and pieces (I believe) to receive (which is my only interest currently). Out of the box I receive nothing but NOAA that I manually put in. Thanks for your help!!
@OnTheMicwithMike
@OnTheMicwithMike 3 года назад
Thank you, glad it was of some help. If you were given a chirp file from someone that had the frequencies that you wanted already in the file, yes you can import them locally from the computer and just copy them over. Even if it might not come from the same radio you can copy and paste the frequencies from one file into a new file and upload to the radio. 73’

@OnTheMicwithMike
@OnTheMicwithMike 3 года назад
Plug in the radio you want to take the frequencies from, and open chirp and hit ‘read from radio’ then when it’s done, save that file to your pc. Plug in your other radio and either open the file you previously saved with those frequencies you want to put on the new radio and click on ‘write to radio’. However you might find some things won’t transfer if their different radios. Otherwise just use copy and paste to copy over the frequencies from one file into another new file then upload that to the new radio.

Thanks. This is helpful. When I use the Radio/Query Data Source/RepeaterBook option it displays the list of repeaters but doesn't include the offset frequencies. This is possibly just a bug or maybe I'm doing something wrong? Cheers (Sub'd)
@OnTheMicwithMike
@OnTheMicwithMike 2 года назад
Much appreciated. I know that the RepeaterBook App gives you the offset, but some sites give you the actual uplink and downlink frequencies and you have to work out the offset yourself. It’s a shame chirp doesn’t offer an option in support of entering both up and downlink frequencies manually.

@OnTheMicwithMike

The ‘frequency’ column would be the repeater output. There is no input as that’s done through setting the offset in the ‘offset’ column and you change the direction in the ‘duplex’ column which will then be set to the ‘input’ of the repeater.

@@OfficialChrisBreezy FMN is just narrow FM, basically cleaner audio whereas normal FM is widebanded and will bring in a lot of mush.
