Progress for Paddlefish
When paddlefish were stocked in Caddo Lake in 2014, it was truly an experiment. No one could be certain the fish would survive or stay put, but years later it seems they have done both. A new update on the progress of a very old fish.

I certainly hope this works. I'd love to see paddlefish become self sustaining in Texas' waters.

The Chinese paddlefish has been declared extinct since 2019. Leaving the American paddlefish as the only paddlefish left. I want to work for the USFWS to save and protect these fish.

Technically 2020, They unfortunately lived in the Yangtze. Massive dams imped spawning, and constantly lowered water levels. That combined with overfishing and HEAVY pollution. Massive pig farms and agriculture run-off is just dump right into it without regulation.

@BigAl2-u7e Год назад
@nikushim6665 It seems like any species with Yangtze in its name is either dead or endangered.

@@BigAl2-u7e China has been putting on a show in regards to environmentalism as a form of international propaganda for the past decade. But the reality is the complete opposite, they really don't give a @*%#.

By far my favorite fish to catch by hand or snag. It dont matter the size of the fish, what matters most is the size of the fight in the fish. Ive experienced many fights with this breed. They can reek havoc on a pole & reel. Ive snagged many 60-90lbs. Me & buddy of mine found a pool of them shortly after the gates were closed at the dam close to where we live. This was our first time jumpin in the pool with them. What a blast it was to play with these fish. Theyre very hard to catch by hand, but the level of fun ya have, cant be compared to anything. Jus when ya think ya got em, ya find out ya dont. These fish shoot off like bullets when ya touch em, which makes it even more fun to try & catch them. Speaking from experience, if yall do go catch spoonies by hand, wear atleast 2-3 layers of shirts or ya will have welts on top of welts. They know how to use those tails very well if ya know what I mean. For the record. Both me & my buddy caught absolute monsters by hand. We weighed & released. We both caught a fish in excess of 120lbs. The girth of 1 that size is comparable to a fully inflated beach ball. Yall have fun playing with these fish, they really are a blast to play with no matter how ya play with them

I used to catch these all the time by accident up in Missouri while targeting catfish, they are legal but have a vary short seasonal window. I always just released them though regardless.

It would be neat if hormonal sensors could be placed in the tag with a wireless transmitter that could be picked up by the boat. In that way you wouldn't have to touch the fish again and might get some more indicators of "reproductive information."

The paddlefish was outlawed in Alabama 20+ years ago and they're huge numbers of them in the Alabama River. We always called them spoonbills and I caught some huge ones before they were outlawed.

Paddle fish is only protected in Texas not Oklahoma its not a endangered species but it is a money maker for the game wardens in Texas.

So fishermen can snag them with a treble hook😢 come on what's happening to catch n release yes n no the fish are just fish IDK it's sad to think about but maybe there is a positive outcome for the ecology side n happy for a fishermen I have seen a man catch a paddle fish on a goob of worms before and I thought they wouldn't take a bait if fishermen will just catch there limit n not get greedy they pay for the sport thru fishing licenses I hope mother nature will take care of the rest
