Definitely will do the trick and cheap way to make snorkel. Turn the top pipe towards the front of vehicle to get max airflow when driving slightly pointed down so rain water can't get in.
I'm about to buy a silver 98 with the 5.2 in it. No rust, needs a battery, and the brakes swapped out for the ones already in the back seat for $650!! I will be watching all of your Durango videos. Getting to know the channel a bit.
Like your vid, gave me some ideas! Making my snorkle out of plastic gutter parts, with flex pipe inside fender. Will have sneak exit out of windsheild trim. Think it will be slick!
Good concept. But for appearance, i would have used a flat and black colored plenum going through the back edge of the hood. Even black eves trough. To avoid body damage, the bracket could be attached to the roof rack. purchased 2002 Durango, 5.9 L. After body shop, I go over it . Install a backup camera and figure how to waterproof the engine for wading. Alternator may have a problem unless CRC waterproof spray protects it..
Great job! One quick question: where/ how did you replaced the throttle body to put it facing forward instead of upwards?? I have the 5.9 and faces upwards to the hood 😮
Looks like the older models silver color on that fender, it had a slightly more beige tint to it. they changed and added a bunch of the colors on the Durango in 2000 and silver in particular is one they changed so it looks brighter on the newer models, probably because it looks nicer.
Project is looking good. Think about water proofing the electronics in the engine bay and sealing the doors to keep as much water out when you go deep.
There may be a more pleasing appearance installed. Consider cutting out the black plastic edging on the passenger side of the windshield. Then install square tubing with flattened profile and transition to round under the hood. The hood would not be cut. adOther
