Thanks for your video work on Saab cars. A great 'trick in this video on how to avoid needing spring compressor tools on the front struts... nice. A suggestion to add a warning about spring tension and the importance of keeping the front strut controlled on the lower side until after the top strut nut is removed. It's pretty easy to pull out all the bolts below and then come up top to release the strut nut... if someone accidentally follows that sequence, may not end well when that strut tower shoots downward as the spring releases.

Hi there, I have had these Maptun (not Maptune) springs on my Aero (the blue one in my videos) for about 7 years now. Some observations: 1. my Aero lip is 115mm off the floor !! It bangs on speed bumps and kerbs regularly. So, I have no doubt you will too. 2. I initially fitted the springs with the sport shocks (Aero) and it seemed okay (I had a broken spring at MoT so had to get the springs done el quicko). About a year later I changed the shocks to Monroe Reflex (been superseded by OE Spectrum now). The ride and handlings were transformed. Very firm, but smooth - a lot less 'crashy'. 3. Bearing 2 in mind I'm not surprised you find the ride harsh on standard (non sport) shocks. Although they are only slightly stiffer it's enough to quickly overpower the stock shocks. 4. My trolley jack won't fit under the front apron!! That's why you see me using those yellow ramps in the videos. 5. unless you're gonna be doing more suspension work, now you've lowered it, you'll need it four wheel aligned. I'd suggest running it on the stock 16s till you do unless you don't mind wearing out those expensive 18" tyres. have it aligned on a Hunter - there is no substitute. Loving watching the progress on this car. Keep up the good work!

thanks for sharing!! Yeah, lol i've seen the ramps in your videos; both of my 9-3's are the same. I have to use a couple of 2x10's!

Yaa, lowering springs + sport shocks (aero) is very 'crashy' as you said (bumps, holes ...). I drove a lowered 9-3 with standard shocks and it is much more comfortable on bumps than mine with aero shocks (both on eibach pro kit - 30mm)
@samesource

Good luck with that Aero lip and the lowered height. I know Arizona is pretty flat, but so is LA, and I trashed my Aero lip unavoidably on LA streets with the OEM springs and had to switch to the non-Aero lip.
@AutoAutopsy
@AutoAutopsy 3 года назад
My TX is far lower than both of these and i've not had an issue; just gotta learn how to drive with it on lol
@samesource
@samesource 3 года назад
@@AutoAutopsy Learning is not really a factor when you are entering a parking garage with a steeper incline than the lip will allow. I see a lot of trashed aero lips, and I don't think it's because of drivers simply being careless. But they do look cool. Hopefully you won't have any problems.

You inspire Me with the Saab, I bought a Blue SAAB 9-3 2.0T from an Auction Here In Las vegas 2.5 Years ago for $300.00 it Ran but I've had to get Transmission Replaced, Fix Engine Leaks, and replace Water Pump. I think now it needs a new Throttle because it's not Picking up speed to accelerate when stepping on the gas and it shuts down after I drive so Far also, I have to disconnect the Grounding cable from the battery to reset so I can start the car back up after that happens. then it seems to pick up speed so I feel it must be a sensor or Relay in the car along with the throttle. I Plan to Replace Rack & Pinion, Shocks & Springs. Both Amps in the Car Need replacing, and maybe some new speakers. needs new Light Switch to turn off and on lights for both headlamps and Fog for now head Lights stay on, when you start the car, they shut oof when you urn the car off. I like how you Guys refurbished your TailLights and headlights. climate control is on as soon as I turn on my car, even after I turn it off, once I start the car; Turn it back on the climate is on Automatically. I'm Not a car fixer-upper Like you guys but definitely inspired me on the Saab

There is no need to change the suspension just because you are lowering the the car. Who ever i saying that has no technical knowledge about cars. However it's not a bad idea to change the struts if you got the cash for it. I lowered my 9-3 three weeks ago and i did not change the struts because the struts where just fine. Love the project Saab! reminded me of my own car =)
@CycloneCyd
@CycloneCyd 4 года назад
Correct, providing it's all in good order. These maptun springs will quickly show up any shortcomings because they are stiffer. After lowering, four wheel alignment on a Hunter is essential though.
@AutoAutopsy

That's funny. My rear lowering springs was 3-4cm higher than the original and much of a pain to get in to place. But it still lowered the car 3cm. I used Lesjöfors springs tho... =)
@CycloneCyd
@CycloneCyd 4 года назад
That';s because your springs are designed with a thinner wire and are progressive. thus they have a lower initial 'rate' but stiffen up fast as they compress (to stop bottoming out). this makes them more suitable to use with stock shocks. I've got Maptun springs on my blue one you see, but they start out with a higher rate and are not progressive and really need slightly uprated shocks (I'm using Monroe Reflex, now superseded by OE Spectrum).

Hi Just interested, Did you shorten your droplinks by the Same drop as your springs..? I would assume to keep the geometry from factory correct, A shortened droplink would be Necessary. I would be interested to know. Thanks.

Ive had my '02 Saab 9 5 for about a month now and I have driven it 2000 miles. Unfortunately it is displaying a solid check engine light... my trusty bluetooth OBD reader says its a fault with the cylinder deactivation system?! Any idea what the actual issue could be? A broken ignition cassette would be a real PITA! Could the car be driven with a broken cassette or will the car just not start? Thanks.. and keep up the great content!

I posted this same comment on your coilover vs lowering spring video, but its an old one, so I figured I'd ask here too. I am trying to decide whether to put my 2007 9-3 2.0T (130k miles, original suspension) on Bilstein B8's with either H+R or Maptun lowering springs vs the Maptun xt coilovers. The cost is about the same when factoring in the new struts and shocks for the bilstein application. I don't track the car and it is my daily driver. My goal is add a bit of sportiness, lower the ride, reduce body roll without a spine shattering ride. Do you have a recommendation? How have the maptun coilovers performed over time? any degradation or corrosion there or other maintenance issues? For the coilovers, do you have a recommended setup/adjustment?
@AutoAutopsy
@AutoAutopsy 3 года назад
i like the coilovers because they're adjustable mainly. Not sure about them vs. the other setup you mentioned, since i've never had that. i'm sure someone on facebook in a group could give you a better comparative answer tho!!
@5thbest129

@@AutoAutopsy Thanks! What do you think about this comment on saabcentral regarding the maptun xt's being purely cosmetic? Agree/disagree? www.saabcentral.com/threads/anyone-with-maptun-xt-series-coilovers.734275/
@AutoAutopsy
@AutoAutopsy 3 года назад
I think that's a poor opinion honestly. They drastically improve handling and are also adjustable, both in height in stiffness. Aesthetics are definitely improved as well!

As I remember, you put "aero" springs on your Arc back then... Maybe these on ebay are called "lowering", but considering dimensions and what kind of result you got in the end, definitely aero spring (which is essentially 10mm lower than standard). These maptuns lowering 35mm so this car should be lower than your Arc...
@AutoAutopsy
@AutoAutopsy 3 года назад
I don’t have aero springs on my arc. They’re aftermarket lowering springs.
@milosrog
@milosrog 3 года назад
@@AutoAutopsy ok but they are = stock aero height.. that was my point. Maybe "lowering" for standard trim (vektor , linear or arc) , but maptun lowering springs are much lower than aero... (like eibach pro kit or so)
