hey Bill, got an interesting proposal if you and the guys agree with it...how about a duel between you and your foamsmith legendary techniques and the guys from man at arms forging in metal and steel ....choose a weapon from a game and both "teams" do it as best as they can, then we, the fans, vote for which one we think looks better, would you be interested? i already left them a comment with this...:D im really curious if you would like this...thanks for your time :D

just wondering, how well that foam and paint stands up to use (con, display, dicking about with etc). As I'd expect the paint to all flake off if it took one bend or decent impact.

how well does that thin hangover piece stand up. if I were to make one of these but with an overall thinner blade, i'm worried that piece would easy get destroyed.

awesome video!!! one problem I seem to be having though is I cannot seem to find page 2 of the blueprint. I have the blade on page 1 and I can't find page ANYWHERE... on the website it only shows page 1. If you could help me out tuat would be great!

I just started working on it and it's going pretty well. Only one problem. I don't have a belt sander, a dreamed tool or a ban saw so I'm not sure how it's going to work out. Do you know of any place that sells 6mm craft foam that comes without a texture and fits the template? Thanks.

Hi I'm inspired by your video and am wanting to do a set of wolverine claws with the thickness of the Eva foam it looks like I'll have to use one piece and I'm worried about its strength are there any way you could suggest to strengthen the foam so it's not too susceptible the bending?

I got a friend who's a big fan of Destiny and I'm a bit of a knife nut..I'm tempted to make a pair of these and have a knife fight with him using them, it'd be some good clean harmless fun.

QUESTION!.... Will plasti-dip give the prop enough rigidity that it could be used as a master to make a resin mold? I kinda want to do this for a cosplay with all my hunter buddies, but making 6 knives this way just seems a weeeeeeeeeeee bit time consuming haha. i'd rather just hand them all a blank knife and let them go to town with the paint them selves :)

Well I'm not sure how plasti dip works on resin. And I think you shouldn't make 6 knives, just make one for yourself. And plasti dip works well with foam like material. It may, I'm not saying it is but may work like the foam material I'm not too sure I haven't tried that out yet.

Haha, bit of a late reply :P All ready gave it a go, and the end result was that the plasti dip, when applied in one or two thin coats, made the sealed the piece enough, and gave it enough rigidity, to make a Silicon mold. So, we made 6 molds, and kept the plasti dipped knife as the master, and within a few days, we had 6 really nice resin knives. A little pen knife work, and some scraping to keep the small details nice and sharp, and everything went well :)

This is great, I'm just looking to get into building (sadly too late for this year's Hal-Con, next year though!) and this video alone gave me a lot of ideas of how to get started! I've also got a bundle of crafting books including some of your foamsmith stuff off Humble Bundle a few days ago. Can't wait to get started!

Do you have any advice on how to join two pieces of EVA without leaving a seam? I made a Master Sword using some of your techniques and it was too long for one piece of foam, so I used two and there's a distinct line where they meet.

I started mine a time ago, but I used styrofoam covered with paper mache. This video was a pumping friendly reminder to go ahead and finish it. Nice work, Bill! ^_-

Love watching your videos and I'm learning a lot. Quick question. What kind of spray sealer do you use/recommend for sealing the paint on the foam? Would any rattle can of clear coat work? Sorry if I missed it, just wasn't seeing it on the list or in the video. Thanks for you input, and keep up with the awesome vids, they're definitely giving me the building bug.

Um hey ***** I'm a really big fan of your work I found you through your foam helmet tutorial a while back and have loved your destiny props and cosplay so far. I wanna ask I live in the UK and When printing your files for the hand cannon and the hunter knife they seem really over sized could I ask for the measurements (really just lengths as i know they are still in scale) of them so i can see if they have come out too big the hand cannon is bigger than my head and im not exactly small

I'm making this right now! Im busy with it the whole day and i dont have all the tooles so for some stuff i didnt do it with the tools you used for example the holes i just used an exacto knife. It worked pretty well im now at the part that you make every thing clean with the dremmil (sorry if i dont spell it right) after that im going to do the strips at the handle and then the painting. And then hopefully it turns out good and if not i learned stuff! Im 12 almost 13 so im a beginner! :D

how thick is the floormat/knife/ the 2 cut floormat pieces after you glued em? so i know what to buy from cosplayshop.be/en thanks....i cant find normal floormat in eu neither from ebay or from amazon, or shipping cost waay to much compared to the product so its not worth it...thanks

The floor mats are about 10mm thick, though to be honest it made the entire prop a little thicker than what it is in the game. You could probably get away with using 6mm foam.

The edge of the blade is hard to dremel so that it is smooth lol. Super fun to do so far.

Would it be possible to have sandwiched a piece of acrylic in the middle of the knife then added an led strip of 3 leds at the hilt and the power source in the handle?
