Loving this 90s vibes this look is giving 💁🏽‍♀️ This was so interesting. It's such a shame about the blaming game and now students don't get to learn about money, for example, because of the constant back and forth. You're doing important work, Shay!

You have no idea how grateful I am that you disclosed that you are a social worker by education and not necessarily by license or other specific credential. I am set to sit for my license in a couple days and I have just been feeling like if I don’t have my license am I truly a social worker and of course that answer is yes you are still a social worker but I feel like this video was right on time and I appreciate what you’re doing with the type of social work content that you’re putting out! ❤️ please please please keep it up. I had an internship at two high schools and really really enjoyed it.

Thank you for opening up this conversation in an open and respectful way. I feel like now is the best time for new ideas and change in education, especially now that we are sort of getting a handle on the pandemic. Things are already changing as we do our work in schools. I have worked for a school system as a k teacher for years so I get you about the whole picture. The " whole picture" is often the variable that makes things a lot more complicated because there are so, so many moving parts, and layers that directly impact the work with the children!! And now, the pandemic has added even more layers if you will. Teaching was always my dream job, so yes I agree that my work with children has been a dream and also that they are always and will be the most important part of the work!! I am sure that the children are blessed to have you!! I have also had another dream of a forum in each district in America. A group that could meet each quarter made up of a teacher, parent, social worker, administration..school staff..etc that would discuss the issues of schooling in that district and possibly problem solve. We would also need one for elementary, middle and HS because the issues facing the elementary child is not the same as the HS student for sure. Even Early Childhood has its own challenges within the elementary system. Sorry for the novel..lol..but this video struck a chord!! LOL!!

I’m a BSW student, I’ll be graduating in May. My internship was in different schools and I loved it. I’m thinking about being a school social worker after grad school.

I'm a social worker in a large high school district in CA. I work with students with IEPs with the primary disability of "emotional disturbance". I've been in this role for 5 years and this year has been by far the hardest because of pandemic-related struggles and admin that don't quite understand. I love my kids but the amount of crises and things I've supported with this year have worn me down and my health is struggling. I'm also getting married in 8 months and we moved closer to my fiancé's family so my commute is an hour each way to work. I love being a school social worker but considering changing up the age group and working closer to home. School social work jobs aren't plentiful and there are only a few close to where I live and each one is about a 20% pay cut from my current position. I'm still grappling with this decision.

Thank you for the work you do. These children need someone to just listen.

I am subscribed to your channel, and I'm an MSW student. I graduate in December 2022. I also follow your channel because I would also like to be an entrepreneur. Thank you for the social work and business content; you are awesome! Lastly, one of my favorite videos of yours is your office tour. It is remarkable.

I enjoyed watching this video ! Your comment about the issues with who people think should be responsible for certain issues kids face and how you relate it to who a lot of people think should be teaching kids about money is very refreshing ! 🙌🏾 very inspiring to me. Ty

Up until Aug 22 I worked for Early Head Start & was a family Advocate, working with babies 6wks-5 & their parents cultivating relationships for parent/child & teachers I LOVED it so much. They were you're stereotypical under privileged families and the things these babies (& parents honestly) saw/went thru were heartbreaking and the teachers would get pissed off about behaviors. I would always say well imagine having (or not) xyz & trying to express that as a toddler. Some people are not meant to be preschool/academic teachers. The only reason I left was for a move to SC. I found a job working with offenders in a private probation company. But I'm sure I'll end up back with babies at some point. I've loved watching you open up about your dream job && hearing your perspective. I definitely feel teachers should be that safe place for children to turn to because sometimes it's their only escape from home.

Hello! Thanks for sharing! My sister is a social worker with a heart for children as well. This role sounds like something she would enjoy. What roles/job titles should she look for when job hunting with the school system? We are in FL so I'm not sure if that changes things. Thank you!

Independent licensure? Can you elaborate?
@ShayBudgets
@ShayBudgets 2 года назад
It’s the “highest” license that social workers hold. Once independently licensed, we do not have to be supervised anymore.

I do want to add that this is for those who do clinical work.
