Can you give me some tips for a 12 yr old with ADHD and impulsive who's very stubborn. He talks back a lot and disrespectful when told to do things.

I can share a few tips that I provide with my counseling student's parents. prepare them in advance for transitions. (in 10 mins we need to do this...5 more mins...) have a posted routine or schedule that you stick to so they clearly know the expectations! when you get home from school this is what needs to happen in order for you to play the game...etc. this can help avoid you having to tell him to do things, because he can look and see for himself what hes supposed to do daily. praise them for times they do follow directions and do what they need to. its important to put just as much emphasis on the good moments. give clear directions but not too many things at once. specifically state "please clean up. you can start with putting your clothes in the hamper". create small wins for you to both feel success! its not easy!! use RU-vid mindfulness videos to help regulate yourself so he doesn't make you explode from frustration lol
