For clarification, my role is more similar to a school-based therapist, however, I am a licensed social worker and do social work-related tasks. Just wanted to provide some clarity as I've been told that school social workers have a slightly different role than school-based therapists. Either way, if you have a desire to go into the field of school social work, I believe this video will still help you. I hope this helps!

Thank you so much for the video and content. I have my bachelors degree in social work and I want to become a school social worker as well. I am finding that in the recent political climate (spiritual battle) that we are in and with a lot of the demonic agendas that the enemy has against children (like attacking their identity’s through gender, etc.)how do navigate these issues while being in the school system? Many schools are uplifting these demonic agendas like celebrating pride month and things like that. How do you navigate as a Christian? I have really been praying about it and asking the Lord if this is something that he would like me to still pursue. Thanks :)

Kiana, this a GREAT question! I will probably do a video to talk about this more in depth, but for now I'd say that I don't compromise. I've made my stance known several times to my company. They are aware (or should be by now) that my Christian beliefs are something I hold dear to me. Because of that, I cannot provide best practice to my clients if I'm asked to support a cause that conflicts with it.

This is something I realized I would struggle with as I’m starting to get on track of social work. Thank you for asking and thank you for cynthia fro your answer.. I was wondering how do we go about it.

Another thing I'll add is that in grad school, I had a professor who told us to utilize theoretical frameworks that are aligned with our personal values. So essentially, your personal values can inform your practice. For example, as a Christian, it's okay if you don't suggest yoga or other ancient practices for coping skills to your clients.@@racheljulianne

Hello Cynthia, Wow, you made a strong statement when you said you did not expect the teacher to see the inerrant value of the student. I am not trying to get you to change your mind or anything. I am just commenting from a teacher's point of view and from the outside looking in. I do not know ALL the Details, and I do not need to know ALL the details. Speaking from experience as a teacher, teaching is a very Challenging profession. In my opinion, you have to be Called to Be a Teacher. It also helps when the School Leadership--i.e. Principal and Assistant Principal-- is Supportive. Not to say that teacher is not Called, but sometimes there are other factors in play. It is really hard to know without observing the classroom while it is in session and without the teacher nor student knowing it. Good video! Keep the content coming.

Hi Sonya! Thank you for the work that you do as a teacher. And you're right, you have to be called into that profession. When I made that statement, I was referring to one of the core values of the humanistic theories in social work which is: viewing each person as having inherent value. Social workers are guided by this framework in their practice, whereas other professionals may not be. I'm sure teachers believe that their students are valuable as well, but it is a fundamental belief of the social work profession which is why I said that. I hope this clarifies it and I surely didn't mean any harm. Thank you for watching :)

Salary varies depending on experience and where you're located. But on a national level, school social workers get paid anywhere from $50,000-$80,000 annually.
