@@truckitprayle it certainly did Thanks Are you agency? I was thinking of tramping for a year maybe getting a lot of cash together moving from London, I feel there are so many better options and opportunities driving lorries 2 and 1

Really helpful video! I’ve wondering, u mention the 10-12hrs working with up to 15hrs just in case. Is that then classed as over time? Also working them kind of long hours topically how many days would u work/get days off?
@truckitprayle
@truckitprayle Год назад
Yeah so you shouldn't be scheduled for more than a 12 hour day but you can work up to 15 hours 2 days a week if needed.
@fizzhogg23
@fizzhogg23 Год назад
15 hours 3 days a week It is 3 reduced rest times of less than 11 hours

Is that a microwave behind you? Does this mean you can prepare food and eat healthy without relying on fast food? Also how do lorry drivers shower when they are doing long journeys?
@harryreed3672
@harryreed3672 Год назад
Let’s say you arrive at a delivery and wait to be unloaded for 2 hours do you put it on rest or other work for them 2 hrs?
@truckitprayle
@truckitprayle Год назад
If you are not helping unload and just waiting then put it on break then you will reset your drive time and be good to go for another 4.5 hours after.

Anyone thinking about getting into class 1 work needs to seriously think about it they can handle the hours. For example do not work for a company that will pay you a salary... Get paid by the hour.. On a salary when you drill down into the amount of hours you work (not just driving) you'll find your only on about £12-13 ph (up north). Sometimes those hours are crazy and you can end up doing a 12-15 hour day which is the norm.. you might even start your shift midday and not finish till 3am the following day.. just remember in some areas Sainsbury's are paying £12.55 per hour for box van work.. The transport industry needs a massive overhaul.. and whilst there are jobs out there that will pay great and give you fantastic hours, you need to have experience and sometimes the only way to get that experience is agency work and you might end up doing mental hours. Currently I have a class 1 license and I've opted for class 2 pallet work as it gets me home for tea time and the money is just ok

Is it normal to make at least a £40k salary per year or is that only with individuals who have experience? I totally get your point though, to look at hourly rates and not just yearly salary because someone might jump up upon seeing ‘£45k per year’ but really when you work out the hourly rates the salary should really be at least £50k. I don’t know because Ive only become interested in lorry driving recently as a back up I may wish to pursue in the future. Me personally I don’t mind putting in extra hours but I want to be making at least £40k per year. Ive also read that some could even potentially earn £50k although I don’t know if thats just false or simply far fetched. Perhaps you can explain this better.
@dennell
@dennell Год назад
@@RatedRRaj 100% agree with you. I would say yes to the £40k salary. I was offered a job that was paying £38.5k and I had limited experience so it is doable but it's like you said if the hours are mental it's just not worth it.. and that's what happened.. I was doing 15 hour days sometimes and the transport office didn't even care.. they just want as many hours out of you as long as it's legal. Your right in saying it's a good choice when there's nothing else going like during recessions etc but if I'm honest it's not a great career move at all. My advice is get the license and get cracking with working but then try a job at a good company that looks after their drivers.

Sainsburys home delivery ain't all it's cracked up to be. They only pay 10.50ph up north and they work every last second they can out of you. Last minute rota changes, late finishes and early starts next day and never 2 days off together and always 1 day on the weekend to work, plus up to 20 drops a day residential. In the pandemic it was 2 runs per shift 15 drops each run.
@spopple88
@spopple88 Год назад
@@RatedRRaj 40k aint hard, I was on 35k as a picker but you can't do that forever so it's not a fair comparison. My place is about 40-45 but I'm a night worker and the pays always better. I have seen plenty of monday to Friday jobs paying that recently though

Just wondering, how long do the vehicle checks take? And do you get paid for that?
@truckitprayle
@truckitprayle Год назад
It should take you around 15 minutes or longer if needed and yes you do get paid for it you need to show 15 mins of other work before you set off on your card.

Yes i use the same truck everyday and to your microwave question, some do some don't depending on what work you do, if you are tramping then you will more likely than not have one.
