Prosecutors are reportedly requesting FTX (FTT-USD) Co-founder and former CEO Sam Bankman-Fried receive a sentence of 40 to 50 years in their statements to a federal judge. Bankman-Fried, who also goes by "SBF", was found guilty in November 2023 on seven counts of fraud and conspiracy to defraud investors and customers of his crypto exchange.

Remember, his mother teaches business ethics at Stanford, and his father taught tax law. They both profited from this and should be prosecuted as well.

I agree, they need to investigate SBF parent’s finances! Anything bought with FTX money needs to be seized and paid to the victims that lost their money! Also add some jail time for their involvement in the this fraud, like 5-10 years in prison each!

And let's not forget about his co-conspirators. They should also get 20+ years each.

They probably will not get 20 years. They will probably get 5-10 years max for their collaboration against SBF.

Caroline Ellison should get at least 20 years, she’s almost as bad as SBF. Managed Alameda, made people loose billions.

We'll see in just a few hours. As it in Federal Court I anticipate the sentence is going to be harsh on SBF. As for the co's I anticipate something more harsh than the public perception but still less than Fried. The co's come across somewhat more sympathetically; as a bunch of childish dupes who were simply the minions. They all very quickly folded tent and bailed. Probably the only very faint ray of hope, for maybe one of them, was to be the first to roll over and squeal against the others. However, they folded en mass, so that sliver of hope gets exponentially smaller for all of them. The most damning issue facing them is/was there is NO legitimate defense to the criminal charges against them - none. Sympathy is all there is and it will be in short supply with this Judge.

I'm not sure of two major things regarding this case; 1) Since the crimes primarily took place outside of the U.S. how does the American justice system have jurisdiction? 2) Since most of the money has been recovered by the bankruptcy trustee why would the prison sentence be so long for a financial crimes case? I fully accept that he committed a series of crimes and enjoyed due process with adequate legal representation. He was able to face his accusers and chose to testify on his own behalf. The testimony from his former colleagues was damaging. The evidence was overwhelming. They were serious crimes. I'm just trying to understand jurisdiction and why they are seeking such a long prison sentence. Keep in mind that many of the victims were other shady characters in the space.

I think he will get at least 30 years in jail. I’m hoping for 40 years or more because he stole 8 billion dollars from people and showed no guilt or remorse for stealing that money. Also probably has money hidden somewhere, like under his parents name.
@Explorerbabe3469
@Explorerbabe3469 2 месяца назад
I think it’s fair to sentence him to 50 years in prison. He knew what he was doing and showed no guilt for stealing 8 billion dollars. His excuse was, “I don’t remember” during cross examination. He’s capable of committing more financial crime if he is sentenced to only 6 years in prison. He’s a very greedy person. He should be sentenced between 40-60 years in prison, so that he won’t be able to commit more financial crime when he’s out or be able enjoy the millions that he hide somewhere if any. They need to show criminals that financial crime is not something you can get away with just 2-6 years of prison time.

In addition to stealing 8 billion dollars, he probably has money hidden somewhere, like under his parent’s name. His parents might have bought real estate properties in another US state or country with stolen money! Don’t let him out early for him to enjoy the stolen money! He stole 8-10 billion dollars from people! Showed no remorse for stealing that money! Convict him to 50 years or more in prison! For Caroline Ellison, convict her to 20-25 years in jail for her being witness against Sbf. The rest of the group involved, 10-15 year each in prison is fair! Don’t let any of them out without prison time! They need to learn their lesson by serving time in prison! They were very greedy people, SBF is the worst of them!
@seanwebb605
@seanwebb605 2 месяца назад
You can't sentence him now for crimes you think might have been missed in the trial. That's the job of the bankruptcy court to recover the funds and the justice department to file additional charges with a separate sentencing hearing.

That punishment would dramatically increase the number of securities fraud. Firms could intentionally defraud people and simply return the money to those who caught them.
