The conversation with Mercer after Heller escapes the facilty is the gem in this game. This is where Alex acts like in the first game: Honest and.... "supportive", in his own way. Hell, I think making them a TEAM would be way better! What if this whole revenge shtick would end up ending in the first minute and Alex, Heller and Dana would cooperate to eliminate Blackwatch for good? What if the Evolved were Gentek's creation? It's much better than making him a bad guy that you'll need to kill in the end... Eh, I'll just stick to the first game.
Insert badass-funny-wierd name here! when playing it and Alex said "and I want your help" I immediately said "YES!" but unfortunately Heller has to be angry revenge man 2000 and go after Alex
half life 3 = gaeben cancel the game prototype 3 = I don't see news when it came out ,maybe no need a sequel. dota 3 (heh, who knows, maybe, they would update the quality of the second game so I don't think we need the third) and portal 3 (low chances that the game will came)
It would have been better to see heller and mercer as allies like how it seemed in the begining of the game till they made alex act all new world orderly
This was what I thought the concept of the game was going be. Alex was going be your mentor and we were going kick ass together. Then they F up Alex mercer personality and kill him off. Alex Mercer made the prototype franchise and they kill him like he was nothing and give us a linear character. The ending suck and was unsatisfying leaving so much questions. They should have just made multiple ending.
Nah, everything alex did had a reason. Alex wasnt mentoring Heller, he was using him. But unlike all the other evolved, Heller didn't fall for his manipulation.
Prototyp 3 story The world is now infected with the black light and White light vitus some city's are still safe and some not you will be a unfortunate person who got infected with it by Alex that rebuild his body back from a Crow and then become one of his evolves and maby you will fight with him against heller
lonely wolf the studio who developed the game got shut down, any way to see prototype 3 would be if someone bought the rights to the franchise, but it still woyldnt be quite the same since different people would have stood behind it
pommie303 yeah cause sometimes when other studio wanna buy a game from another studio sometimes the studio that wants to buy just because i think that it diserved 2nd or third sequel but they add like new stuff like mecanic or something else they end up fuck it a little or some thing
It was fun, but the story was painfully below average as well as the character. Heller has no complexity to him, and the most you got from him was "motherfucker" and "Mercer".
Divine Prodigy Yeah. I prefer it to the first one for the gameplay, but Mercer is still my fav character out of the games and always will be. Or the "virus", whatever you wanna call him or "it".
I have a theory... about Alex Mercer when you play as him, you're never standing in on place for too long and Alex wasn't one to fight like that (read comics) but in the fight with Heller he's always standing on top of the same building and pretty much standing on the same place which makes me think he was going easy on Heller for some reason...but one would disregard that anyway (not me). And also if you follow the story of the games, the first and the second, you can see that the virus is never really defeated or "erased" no, it actually becomes a source of power for the user, which would be Alex and Heller, but keep in mind that even though Alex and Heller absorb the virus and powers, it never dies... it only gets stronger and stronger, which benefits the user (in the game it gives you new powers and allows you to change form) okay all that is known, now... while fighting during the game, you come across many different types of enemies, the most common are the "zombies" which none of them "is the virus" they were simply infected by the virus, another enemy would be these big "dogs" who are heavily mutated by the virus, still... none of these "is the virus" okay.. so, in the end of the second game, we discover that Alex became the virus, (right now he's the only one like that) but he gets "defeated" by Heller who consumes him but just before it happens... Alex says to Heller, "Welcome to the top of the food chain" Shouldn't Alex be more pissed off by Heller destroying his dreams about creating a new and stronger mankind? that is very strange to me... but okay... now the question that bugs me, if the virus can never be erased and Heller consumed Alex which now IS virus then... isn't Heller just a container for a virus that is much stronger and powerful than anyone other that ever consumed before? Holy shit! Prototype 3 would have a new protagonist... or should i say... old one with a hoodie? :P
The only way I see Alyx coming is if he pops out of Heller back or something, any attempt to control him should fail considering the praise he gets for his resilient DNA. But maybe he was just expecting James to crack and follow the same path he did, but be able to follow through without fail now having his own immense power added to James' already incredible strength. But I'd like to see James again but less hot headed now that he found his daughter and is down one maniacal Alex Mercer. Maybe if he somehow emerges from James' body, Alex should realise the errors of his ways or something and you both wipe Gentek off the face of the earth and find Pariah, can you say co op PROTOTYPE? And maybe nano machines should be introduced.
Guy Dai I can totally see it, Heller wakes up in the morning, he looks down and see the head of mercer coming out of his chest, saying "had nice dreams?" Hahaha!
The Resilient DNA crap was a real BS Ex Machina thing. And yeah, Alex Mercer really isn't "Alex Mercer", the scientist. That was just the Blacklight Viruses first victim, assuming it's form and memories so well it tricked itself. The virus Eleanor Green spread in the first game was the Redlight Virus, and from that was made the one that now calls itself Alex Mercer. And we can't forget the threat of Pariah, Eleanor's Child, who is still running around. Alex doesn't want any rivals. 20 bucks says Alex made his super race to harvest DNA more efficiently, then eat the last one standing, lying to them all so he could kill Pariah and really be "The Top of the Food Chain". And look who climbed the ranks, doing all the heavy lifting; James Heller. Eating up all that Blacklight Virus and making himself a little more Mercer every time, proving he's the strongest. No matter how someone wants to defend it, Heller can't "consume" the Virus itself. It's been in him the whole time, it's part of him, but it never "was" him. James Heller is still just a man who got infected, just from the source. Alex IS the Virus, and now it and ALL that nice biomass it's been gathering is collected in one neat little carrying case. And if Alex Mercer is a quarter the genius he's suppose to be, I'd say he already ate Heller from the inside-out and assumed his form, just like everyone else. After all, that "resilient DNA" bullshit really can't hold out if there's more of the Virus's DNA than his own.
its cuz he didnt heller ripped off his arms and his arms have dna which means mercer will regenerate just like in the prototype one when he regenerated
The first came out when Infamous came out and Infamous won over the first. I like them both. It prototype better because red, black, and highly deadly, cool looking weapons
You know, even though he has been mentioned we have never really seen Pariah. Kind of sad in my opinion, after all he would have the potential to be greater than Mercer and Heller combined.
If prototype 3 came out, everyone wants Alex Mercer to come back but half the audience loved Heller as well, why not have the virus spread to multiple states instead of just New York (LIKE ALWAYS IN ALMOST EVERY VIDEO GAME) so Heller travels to stop the spread of the infection while at the same time the over all goal of the game is to stop Black Watch once and for all. During the game, however, Alex Mercer was actually remaining dormant within Heller and fights to take control of his body or ultimately separate from Heller, switching characters during the game on missions.
i like that idea imagine, a game where you play 2 characters. Alex and Heller team up to stop black watch and gentek. You play as Alex in one mission and then as Heller in another just to see his POV. and this time, the whole country is infected!!!
Cody Reynolds The fun thing is, Alex Mercer is the brain of the duo, while James Heller is the muscle of the duo. Brilliant idea! With Radical Entertainment's return, I hope they read this comment. :3
A bit late but another option is to have the game set in two time periods one for each character one point a thing happening and another backtracking only to find out what happened. In the end it finds out there was a catalyst for both breaking off and the pariah being involved in both their time periods. Only for them to realise that pariah was within them all along. I say that cause there were hints in prototype 1 that cross was Greene's child. Another scene in part 1 was a bit of blood going in Alex mouth. So that could have been a reason for Alex growing stronger. Maybe Alex killed pariah between 1 and 2. Remember we don't know what he did the whole time. Haven't read the comics but there has to have a time frame between where he got pissed off and spread the virus and the incident with Heller. Maybe pariah was in Alex waiting for him to grow stronger and when Heller consumed Alex he was almost back to his full potential but still waited to confirm, maybe Alex wasn't aware that pariah was still dormant within him. Just a thought though.
Alex is one of the best overpowered anti-heroes ever produced, I doubt he's really gone since Heller did chop Alex's arm off before Heller consumed Alex and Alex has regenerated from less.
Loyal Fan Trash team They arent necessarily bad but I get what you mean, I remember them being better, probably because everything nowadays is so realistic haha
*Sees Mercer* Heller: omg it's Alex mercer even though he's like a god and can regenerate his health this outta kill him *looks at knife and stabs Mercer* Mercer: -_-
Had a thought, imagine you play as one of the soldiers, you know these superhumans are out there and could be anyone, you hear or see glimpses of them and their power, and you're just a human trying to survive and contain what you can. A whole different perspective
I wish Heller wasn't angry all the time but given his situation he was in I understand. I liked his personality when he spoke to Dana Mercer. I wish he had spoke to all his allies like how he spoke to Dana.
i have the feeling if mercer really wanted to win, he would have - easily in fact. when you attack mercer in the final fight with the same with the same powers he has, claws, blade arm, hammer fists - he EASILY parries your attack and damages you in the process. this means he only allows you to wound him with a different power. as if he is making sure you have a grasp of what powers you have and what they can do before he leaves. makes me think he's grooming him to replace him - for a time. remember what mercer said "every living thing you consume makes you stronger, you take their shapes, and you take their memories" but remember what tagard said in the last game "i would say 'dead or alive' but i'm not sure those clasifications apply to mercer anymore" kinda of like what mercer says in this game "i have moved beyond life and death dana, heller has too, he just hasent realized it yet" mercers just chillin' inside heller, probably just watching through all the memories he and heller accumulated over the games to see if he can have a purpose of his own that and heller dismemberd mercers arms before consuming him. those arms where just left there. remember that mercer recovered from a drop or two of blood that stuck to a crow. of course i could be wrong - but seriously, why didnt mercer just keep parrying hellers attacks? he HAS the know-how and the needed powers to parry EVERY attack heller has but he lets him pound on him. i dunno. and i guess we never will
I'll go one further. Alex knew he couldn't eat Heller, so what was the point of the final fight? Hell, going even further, Alex knew Heller's daughter had the same "resilient DNA" crap, meaning Alex couldn't eat her either, why kidnap her? Fuck, if Heller really had DNA that could resist Alex, how the fuck did he even gain Super Powers to begin with? Shouldn't he have just fought off the infection? The truth of all of these is just the writers shit the bed, unfortunately.
@@raidman3733 i....thiiink with hellers DNA being resilent or whatever, it ONLY takes effect after getting infected normally the virus obeys mercers, but after infecting heller it kinda changes or gets twisted by combining with hellers DNA, meaning hellers body and virus obey him, not mercer but yea, the writers kinda went off trail
I keep wishing for a sudden Prototype 3. That pops up suddenly like when I saw The 3rd Birthday, wonder what the heck that was and realised it was basicalle PE 3. Hell they could call it Proto-3, Nightwatch Virus, or Heller's Marm/anything to do with Heller and I'll still buy the game. I wish for them to return the armor though.
Its because some gamers are ignorant and only play cod and ignore other games saying theyre shit, this is the best game ever, if only activision gave radical a chance, there could have been prototype 3 with multiplayer
Agreed...But the thing is that since CoD's won a lot of money,Activision is "not interested" in other games...In a few words is that...It's sad but it's the truth...
what would have been a better story for this game is that Alex is still the protagonist, trying to stop gentek and blackwatch. And when he said its a bioweapons test, that could have been part of the plot, Alex putting a stop to it all just like he did the 1st game. As for Heller, they both could end up being unlikely allies. Alex gave turned him into an evolved, but instead he could end up doing it to save his life though he had a fixation on him.
What would have been even better is if they had used pariah if the devs had did their homework on the first game pariah in the web of intrigue was described as being the ultimate host of the blacklight virus making him more powerful than alex and even heller it was even stated that if alex fought pariah he would get stomped worse then he did aginst heller
@@alexmercer7687 Mercer just threw a tank with 1 hand, then heller tried to slit mercer's throat but didn't work, and he thought that stabbing his arm will work? That's what's funny
But that`s what made the battle so special, You played with alex throughout the entire first game so you know who Alex is and what he is capable of, Sometime during the first and second game he started to question his humanity and realized that he wasn`t a human anymore. When you become something so greater and so powerfull that usually happens. I thought the Ideia of Alex becoming the Antagonist Awesome, I loved fighting against him and heller was a great hero in the game.
I have to say both are great, but 2 gives you more free-range, it has more replay value, i'm not talking new game +, you can start over brand new at least 3 times and beat it, and still not have enough!!!
I think it's a great dramatic twist. In between Prototype 1 and 2, Alex attempts to find his place in the world but only succeeds in further distancing the gap between him and his faith in humanity, to the point of non existence. Dana says it herself: "I understand that Alex is dead now." The Mercer we loved saved the world, but died when he realized it wasn't worth saving in the first place. All that Heller fights is just a shell full of evil, hatred, and a shitton of Blacklight virus.
I’ve always liked the little detail that Mercer has changed his shape so many times his original human form is starting to look less and less like himself
Wait a second in prototype 1 Alex could barely take a hit from those big white armored military dudes but now when he gets stabbed by a huge blade he walks it off? wtf....
Ah, yes. Attack Alex Mercer with a fucking knife and expect to win. Heller's a goddamn genius. Can't believe you're stuck with that bozo for the whole game.
Cage McCree Stupid shit, sure. But you'd have to have very few brain cells to begin with to think you can take on a bio superweapon that survived whole armies and a damn nuke with a knife, anger or not.
Guys, that is NOT alex mercer in the second game! Alex mercer himself DID die in the first game. The virus took over his body and he came back to life. Slowly throughout the 1st game the virus takes over the dead alexs mind and body, thinking that it itself is THE alex mercer. until it has complete control. Alex aka The Virus even said at the end of the game that he was NOT alex mercer. I love Alex Mercer from the first game, but You are fighting the VIRUS in the second game. Which is STILL using alex mercers body as a host to survive in. Why do you think alex went down the stupid over used bad guy lane? Cuz of the VIRUS. What are virus's most known for? Being bad.
I played both games to the end and I was so confused on wtf happened to Alex I like heller too but Alex was the original but after all this time I think I get it and I agree with this
This game had some of the best dialogue! If you charged throw a enemy off a building you'll hear Heller say " Think Happy thoughts MF " 😂☠️😂☠️😂 But I do wish they would have teamed up, what perfect way to start/ have a Prototype 3 storyline
After all these years i might have noticed something, when Mercer “guides” Heller to consume that Blackwatch soldier to learn who is to blame. The voices there sound similar to Mercer’s, he probably altered those visions to make him look innocent and gain Heller’s cooperation.
Prototype and inFamous. It like a law. You have to change the main character voice from the previous game and kill him off in the end of the sequel. Also have both them in a quarantine city and getting powers out no where.
The real alex is dead as i heard in dialouge (sorry if i spell that wrong) but the thing is that the virus copied mercers body in other words alex IS the virus correct me if im wrong but that is what i think
You are correct. For all intents and purposes, Alex Mercer is the dominant personality, and by extension form, of a complex viral organism that has absorbed the biomass, genetic material, consciounesses and memories of hundreds, if not thousands of organisms.
@Alex The Awsome but isn't his brain damaged so virus couldn't actually take his memories and that was the reason it thought it was Alex Mercer with amnesia
So no one gonna talk about the dramatic and really good music that plays in the opening intro, when the tank Heller is in gets blown up, when Alex turns Heller into an evolved, and at the ending when Heller saves Maya
but Heller is better though there's no way Alex can destroy Heller because Heller is a stronger form of the virus it just wouldn't make sense if he did
@@michaeljason2593 that's a hella hate hate boner for James you need to chill he ain't that bad how about Pariah teaming up with Heller since Heller wants a cure for the virus and Pariah can provide something like that.
6:40 I like to imagine that the reason he didn't straight up insta-kill heller is mainly due to the fact "Oh, this regular human DODGED my punch and managed to stab me about three times, that hasn't happened before."
Its because he kidnapped hellers daughter and trying to make her a prototype because she has the blood of heller making her the best subject to becoming one but then heller never wanted that so he killed mercer and avenged her daughter
Here's how it should have gone down. After the Nuke from the first game, Alex revives himself from the small amount of Biomass that was left, but is then captured by the remnants of Blackwatch. Due to the massive amount of biomass he loss when he was caught in the nuke, he is too weak to fight back and is unable to use his powers. While he is in captivity, Dana and Ragland are able to find him and help him escape from the facility he was kept prisoner in. He escapes to find himself in... Chicago! The story then continues from there, in which Mercer and his allies must dive deep into the conspiracy behind Blackwatch and the government, discover more about what really happened in the town of Hope and eventually come into contact with Pariah, in which his actions will determine the fate of the human race as a whole. So... how'd I do?
Too bad they stuck Heller with the cliché revenge/justice complex and retconned Alex Mercer into a stupid "evil-for-the-sake-of-evil" comic book villain. Had the writing integrity remained intact for Prototype 2, Heller could have teamed up with Alex, which would make more logical sense, and a much more intricate story could have played out. Instead, they shot themselves in the foot and made players kill the well-liked protagonist from the first game with no other motive than: "He's just evil... for some reason." Not to mention that it stands to reason that Heller should have been utterly stomped. Alex would have mutated to the point of godhood by the time Heller got to him. Unfortunate that we'll probably never see a Prototype 3, let alone a Prototype 3 that would rectify the glaring writing mistakes of Prototype 2. I guess Prototype will stand as the first and last of its kind, with the red-headed stepchild Prototype 2 in the background.
you do know Heller's daughter and wife were killed by Alex like that's what he thought at the time but it's just his wife in actuality but still are you gonna be like yeah let's team up with the guy that killed my wife and daughter like seriously it's like you lot didn't play the game
Jonas Wilmore-Hines Alex Mercer has a viral strand of D1118-C. James Heller has a viral strand of D1118-B. From the beginning, Heller with only 3 weapons could have beaten Mercer.
