How can a sinner have peace with God? Fundamentally, Catholics and Protestants will give different answers to this question.
In this episode, Jake is joined by a friend and devout Roman Catholic, Trey Brock, to define and discuss the Catholic and Protestant understandings of justification. We hope you will be challenged and encouraged.

How sad to not have an assurance of salvation. Pray for my sister who came out of Mormonism by the grace of God and is now becoming Catholic. She doesn't believe in faith alone. I have walked with Jesus for over 3 years as a non Mormon and the only way I was able to see the grace of God was to come to an end of myself and a supposed view of my own "righteousness." Thank you Jesus that it is finished!

What about Romans 4:8? I think the reason Roman Catholics believe justification is a life long cooperation with grace is because their sins are still being imputed to them according to their understanding. Understanding the finished work of Christ and how that work applies to a believer is the root issue here. Christ's atonement for sin is a complete and final one, not an ongoing sacrifice through the Eucharist and other sacraments. Man trying to control and dispense Gods grace is very apparent in the Roman Catholic system. Im not finished watching the video. I hope this issue is brought up.

Why should a Catholic use the Bible, a Catholic book - written by Catholics / Israeites under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit & complied by Catholics & painstakingly preserved for a millenia & a half before printing presses were invented, when speaking with a non-Catholic? If a Muslim is trying to convince you Islam is correct, would you not find it weird if they were simply using & quoting from their own holy book, the Qu'ran, to convince you? It's totally weird to Catholics to have non-Catholics to use the Bible in their failed attempts to discredit Christ's Catholic Church. Why would someone reject the authority of the Catholic Church and yet accept the holy book of the Catholic Church, the Bible? It's totally nonsensical when you really think about it.

@@Insomnolant1335 actually from the time the Protestant Churches first came into existence in the 1500s until now, the Protestants have not changed much of the content of the Bible. It's true that Protestants have renumbered at least some of the Psalms, changed the order of the chapters in at least the book of Esther, remove parts of at least the book of Daniel, and removed 7 Old Testament Books... yet with these changes made to the Protestant versions of the Bible made within the last 500ish years even still when a Protestant reads the entirety their slightly smaller version of the Bible than the Catholic Church preserved for over a millennia before their existence, the Protestants are still able to recognize within the Bible that the Catholic Church was personally founded by Jesus on the Papacy & protected from error by the Holy Spirit within its pages, they're able to see all 7 Sacraments within its pages, and they're able to see that Mary, Jesus' Mom, is also the Mother of all Christians within its pages, they're able to see. For this reason, namely reading the Bible, many of us who are Catholic Christians right now used to be Protestant Christians because in the pages of our slightly smaller versions of the Bible we, by the Grace of God, still found the fullness of the Truth, His Catholic Church ⛪ ❤

And "being good" of course. Although the Holy Spirit indwelling was never the power to do good. It was all your own effort. The issue I have with his hypothetical example of the man who receives salvation and then commits a sin by having a baby ( I think he said out of wedlock) but then goes and has an abortion, is this : Often times what I think happens in the observable life of a believer that we are trying to reconcile in light of the truth of Gods word is whether a person is truly saved or not. And this gentleman did mention that we can’t truly know that to the core of the heart and soul the way God does. The issue still arrives where finite creatures are trying to reconcile the fruit of their own life and the lives of others. And so in the hypothetical or in the case of anyone who abandons Christ by all intents and purposes, the scriptures would resolve this in two categories: 1: They are not truly and never were truly saved and therefore, for the protection of the church community, that individual would be excommunicated. Or 2: by what we perceive based on their conduct ( possibly ongoing ) is that they are not truly saved ( as far as we can tell ) and we would excommunicate them with the hope that they would come to their senses and return back to Christ. Thus proving ( by all that we can tell) that they belonged to Christ. The heart of a truly saved person is not one of perfect sanctification, but progressive. The standard of perfection is often something we just see as a theory or a seminary truth held in scripture and possibly don’t grasp the magnitude and impossibility of this standard , but bro… perfection?!?!? Without even getting in to the weeds of what we all do or don’t do each day, I can make it easy. Do we : Love the lord God with everything that we are in the same way that Christ does? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Do we do it after receiving salvation? Noooooooooo! Perfectly? NO!!! The way Christ does? No !!!! Then that is enough to convict us while we sleep and wake each day. So even after salvation and in the progressive sanctified life of a believer, we can only ever stand on the work of Christ. I think often what we fear about the freeing gift of grace is that it’s too good to be true and because so many either “fake believers” or immature believers have brought a blight upon the testimony of Christ, we do our best to correct and give an answer to what the outside world is seeing so as to not deem God as a hypocrite or his church.

@5ivepoints18
@5ivepoints18 2 месяца назад
I'm not sure which point you're trying to prove but I'll take the bait! James 2 14-18 comes on the heels of verses 1-13, it's those verses that gives us the context to read 14-18 & interpret what's being said. Poor & rich are being used here to represent those with and without faith.(1 Cor. 1:26-29) Not every worldly poor person will get into heaven & not every worldly rich person will go to hell. James is saying there's 2 types of people, those under the "royal law" & those under the "law of freedom". The royal law is the 10 commandments, break 1 & you're guilty of them all. The law of freedom is also known as the law of grace/mercy, where we are under the grace of God (through faith in Jesus Christ). While under the law of grace we have "freedom" to do as we please, ah, but here's the rub, we aren't under the law of grace with the same hearts we once had! God has to regenerate us, give us new hearts, new hearts that give us new desires. Now under the law of grace we operate in the power of the Holy Spirit to WORK in ways that please God (& ourselves!) That's why James said judgment will be merciless to the one who shows no mercy & the example he gives is one a person who has "faith" yet does not show (or WORK) mercy. Can you show someone your faith without works?? NO! Faith is demonstrated IN our WORK. I hope that clears up the Protestant view (at least it's this protestants view)
@CatholicCraig
@CatholicCraig 2 месяца назад
Thank you for the reply. I understand what you are saying here but you have solved the problem between works and faith alone. If your saying that you can’t show your faith without works then Catholics would agree. We are simply saying that works are essential to remain in grace with God. That’s why the Bible teaches to do them. If you don’t take action with works you have no faith. Even if you believe in Jesus. Faith without works is dead. I constantly see Protestants use Ephesians to teach that you don’t need works to go to Heaven when the Bible teaches the opposite. You are not SAVED by only works. You can’t be saved unless you have faith, true. But you remain in good faith and thus remain saved after you believe by doing good works.
